[Event] The PokeCommunity Game-Along

I'm now about half-way through To the Moon and I love it. The music is fantastic, it looks really good and the characters and story are all extremely compelling. River and Isabelle seem to both be on the spectrum - which is a strange experience for me looking in to that from Johnny's POV since I'm autistic myself - but I think this is representation written superbly. I am so deeply immersed in this game it's going to be kind of sad when I finish it in the next day or two.

That being said... IT WAS A LION, RIVER. NOT A COBRA. A LION. GOD DAMN IT GAME. I get why they did it, but it still made me want to bang my head on a wall lmao.

I forgot to mention...my game this month is (or was, because I finished it yesterday and am now on the extra story, haha) Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.

I'll rant about Future Connected when I finish it, because it is certainly not what I expected...

So, I forgot to mention it here, but my game for this month is GRIS, since it's short and have been on my backlog for a while.

THE POKECOMMUNITY GAME-ALONG - GRIS

[PokeCommunity.com] The PokeCommunity Game-Along

FINAL PART

I always enjoy playing atmospheric minimalistic games from time to time. I had GRIS in my library pretty much since it was released, but always told myself that it's short, so I can play it any time I want. And so I postponed playing it for a long time... Until now!

I played the whole game in one sitting and really enjoyed it. I love the background watercolours design. And the design as a whole. Puzzles were really smart and fresh. I don't think there was a single puzzle that I would get stuck on. My favourite was the one with the windmill.

My favourite worlds were probably the water and cosmic ones. I dig how small I felt in deep waters of water level. And the bossfight there was intense! Speaking of bossfights, I didn't expect them, the first one hit hard.

Last thing I want to mention was that the game was kinda repetitive for 3 hours game. Each level was basically the same and were only were distinguished by their graphical style.

But that's a small thing, since while each level had the same goal, they each brought something new to the game. Each special power was interesting and tied both to the theme of the game and gameplay puzzles.

So yeah, this was great game. Looking forward the next month.

*rolls in on the last day of the month, as is tradition*

Except... what? Plot twist! There's still almost 24 hours to go and I finished my game "early". Amazing, I know.

Anyway, I was gonna play Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and even started it a week or two ago but... I just wasn't making progress quickly enough so this morning I sat down and thought, "Wow, I'd love to replay Left 4 Dead". So I did! I did all the campaigns for the first game today. (Well, except the very end of the Sacrifice campaign bc wow that's like impossible to solo with CPUs... but it was DLC anyway so it's okay, it still counts.)

Sorry @Cherrim it doesn't count you gotta do the DLC too ahahahahahahahaha /shot

July - JRPGs

It's #JRPGJuly! You know what that means! This month's theme is...JRPGs! Not much more need to be said, I would hope - we all know what JRPGs are! But just in case you don't: JRPGs are a sub-genre of role-playing games, specifically those made by Japanese developers such as Nintendo, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, Atlus, and so on.

The rules are what you would expect: any RPG of any kind created by a Japanese developer is acceptable for this month. Doesn't matter if it's turn-based, tactical, real-time, or whatever else. If you're not sure if it's a JRPG or not, feel free to post what you're considering in here for appraisal, as always~

As a bit of background, the event was started by Anne Lee on her blog Chic Pixel in 2014, and has since spread to Twitter (like everything else) and various RPG news sites.

So for this month, play a JRPG! Go go go!

I have other things I can choose but... I'm very close to being caught up in Final Fantasy XIV and would like to be before the next patch drops in August.

Can I get to and play Shadowbringers (the latest expansion) and have it count? :x It's an awkward pick because it's DLC/part of an existing game, but each patch is almost a game on its own. I looked it up on How Long to Beat and the average playtime for just this expansion seems to be 50 hours which is... pretty much your standard JRPG time.

That's fine! As you say, each FFXIV expansion has its own narrative, so if you finish that it'd count in my books~

Not gonna lie, I haven't played that many JRPGs and don't have any right now in my backlog. I've played FFVII, FFVIII, Xenoblade Chronicles, few Fire Emblem games, if they count and probably some more that I don't remember right now. So I think I'll ask you all for recommendations. I heard about Ni No Kuni, Tales series and Dragon Quests, but I'm not really sure how good any of them are or where to start with those series. I would be really grateful for any recommendation.
