On one hand I don't like how its design remains nearly identical throughout the evolutions, but on the other this evolves into a unique electric type. Plus instead of a Pikachu clone it fits more of a Raichu clone because it is orange. I feel like orange isn't a main color you see for pokemon.

That I can agree. In my opinion pikaclones didn't get better until gen 5, though most would claim gen 7 was when pikaclones would be better.

Iron fist + thunder punch makes the base power go from 75 to 90 all before applying STAB. That's pretty good especially with the evolution.
