The Shiny That Got Away

    Have you ever encountered the elusive shiny, only to have it slip through your fingers? If so, how did it happen? I once encountered a shiny druddigon, but it used dragon tail and instantly ended the the battle. I was not a happy camper that night.
     
    - I found a shiny Hariyama in Sapphire that used Whirlwind.
    - In White 2 when I was exploring the Reversal Mountain with Bianca, I found a shiny Numel in a double battle and Bianca's Musharna killed it.
    - After hours of searching, I found a shiny Ivysaur in the friend safari, but it knocked itself out with Take Down after I used False Swipe.
    - Four times I failed to catch a shiny Basculin from chain fishing due to them using Final Gambit. Who would've thought they would have such a low catch rate?
     
    Found a shiny tropius in my first run in pokemon emerald when i was like 6-7 years old. I saw it shine like it was made of gold, i remember wondering why it was gold but i wanted to catch it! So i go to my bag, i look at it and cry... no pokeballs. That tropius memory still haunts my dreams to this day
     
    Encountered a shiny Lillipup at the beginning of Black, and I clearly remember having the 5 pokeballs you're given at the start, and being too scared to actually damage it in fear of KO'ing it. Well, after 5 failed attempts, I'm left with no choice but to simply run away in defeat. -_-
     
    I encounter a shiny oddish, but I killed it accidentally on not knowing which oddish I targetted
     
    I can't remember what it was... it was in a swarm on Pokémon Y version, and one of the Pokémon used a self damaging move like self-destruct and caused the shiny Pokémon to faint. Ah well.
     
    I was in Wayward Cave, leading Mira out when we ran into a shiny Bronzor. I instructed my Pachirisu to get her Kadabra to sit this one out so I could put the luck of the Irish on my team. She must have really hated the color green because her Kadabra focused on the shiny. But my first hit took more than half Kadabra's HP, so I knew the next hit would take him down. But Pachirisu was confused and hit himself...and Kadabra attacked the shiny again. Now I hate Mira. I swear I will get a shiny Bronzor. And when I do, I'll bludgeon her with it.
     
    I had a failed shiny in Black, and it was a Boldore in Twist Mountain. Accidentally ran from the thing.

    I did make up for it months later with getting a shiny Drilbur at Chargestone Cave though.
     
    I've never missed an opportunity to catch a shiny, but I did encounter one on an emulator which is pretty useless if I can't transfer them to my main games. It was a shiny Spearow in Crystal which I did catch but couldn't trade over. :x
     
    That awesome shiny Graveler in Platinum. It was so close to being mine. It was a double battle with that guy on Iron Island or something and he didn't kill the Graveler, but just as I was about to throw a Poke Ball - KABOOM, it used Self Destruct.
     
    A Seaking in the Safari zone, in Firered. I never thought I'd actually get a shiny there, and it fled....now I'm on this hunt to catch/hatch one myself in the same game. I can't get it back exactly, but I can get another one...eventually :P
     
    The first one that ever got away from me was a Graveler in Victory Road (Pearl) that used Explosion. I was nearly in tears, but less than 10 minutes later found a Shiny Machoke!

    The next was a Shiny Quagsire in the Great March (Platinum). It fled. T_T

    The most recent isn't that big of a deal since it was encountered via PokéRadar (Pearl), but I finally chained a Shiny Vulpix after a few failed attempts only for it to use Roar...

    Had a shiny Psyduck in the Safari Zone... Three guesses how that went down.

    The other was a... Venomoth, I believe, in one of the Unova games. Accidentally killed it.
     
    When I was little, the first shiny, before I properly knew what a shiny was.. It was a shiny Ditto I encountered in Leafgreen. Alright, so I was in the cave you catch Mewtwo in, and I run into this Ditto. And it's light blue, alright? I send out my level 100 Charizard, and the thing turns into a SHINY version of my Charizard. And I'm like freaking out. I was thinking that thing would be overpowered as hell and destroy my party. But at the same time, I really want to catch it. So I get my Charizard to use Flamethrower, hoping that the Fire type attack would do little damage. I murdered my first shiny by accident.
