[Sword & Shield] thoughts on dynamax/gigantamax?

2/10 - I hate Dynamax so much and while I like the concept of buffing all Pokemon, this was poorly executed because it just makes a lot more Pokemon broken or not benefiting from it at all. You can be in a losing situation and then simply Dynamax and suddenly you are winning. Three turns may not sound a lot but sometimes that's all a Pokemon needs to do damage for your team. Also, trainers are in front of the Pokemon therefore putting themselves in danger.

4/10

The designs of the Pokemon have grown on me quite a bit (I mean GMax Alcremie is love) but I still see it as a silly gimmick that just takes up time and disrupts the flow of battles.

I haven't played swosh, but as a gimmick seen from outside of the games, and from what I saw in the Journeys anime, it doesn't seem like something you can apply even forced logic to... it's just weird, haha. I'm gonna keep dyna/gigantamax out of my RPs.

Dynamax 1/10
Gigantamax 8/10

All Gigantamax is, is a weaker version of Mega Evolution. They are basically the same exact thing, one just lasts the entire battle, while the other only lasts for 3 rounds. I don't like that they grow so large, but eh. That is minor. I however don't give a crap about Pikachu, Eevee and Meowth Gigantamax I think that was just a waste. That being said, I'd still rather just have Mega Evolution.

Dynamax however, I think is useless state of play. They said, "So you can Dynamax a pokemon you may not want to evolve." If you do that, your pokemon is probably going to be 1 shot KOed by a non Dynamax pokemon because it doesn't have the stats. It will be slower and and just is a dumb concept. That is why they mad Dynamaxing at least that is what I recall one of the creators saying in an interview.

If I was to write a Fanfic or do an RP, I would just make Gigantamaxes, Megas, while omitting normal Dynamax.

I find Dynamax and Gigantamax to be fun, actually. I like the the idea of Pokemon being able to go giant for three turns. I, however, wish more Pokemon that weren't generation I got Gigantamax forms. :| Most of the Gigantamax Pokemon are either Gen I mons or the new ones. It kinda bothers me most are Kanto Pokemon. I feel that this mechanic is gonna just be a gimmick of generation 8, though, and it'll go away the next generation like Z-Moves and Mega Evolution before it. I can't see this ever being a mainstay in the Pokemon games. I don't know why I like this mechanic so much, considering I hated Mega Evolution with a burning passion, but eh.

It's made for a decent bit of gameplay content in beating up raid bosses, but otherwise I've not really been sold on it. It feels a bit lazy on the Dynamax side, and for Gigantamax... well, Megas seemed cooler in not being giant illusions or whatnot. Megas maybe were overpowering in that they lasted forever, while Z moves was a one use only nuke deal, so this seems to be an attempt to merge the two and fall between those extremes. But I don't think it quite works execution wise. That said, not done competitve battles (yet) so can't quite say firsthand there.

Mechanically it's a great gimmick. It's just far too absurd and silly to take seriously and get excited about. Gigantimax is better since the designs are made with being huge in mind. Visually I prefer SWSH raids to SCVL ones because of it, but it probably doesn't help that SCVL looks bad

Sigh. Another pointless gimmick that I've never used except for postgame raid dens/dynamax adventures online/with friends. I've never used it once in the story campaign.

I honestly wish the whole gimmick thing would go away. Pokemon was better without them. Say what you will about BD/SP, but it was refreshing to be able to play a Pokemon game on a modern system without having to worry about some dumb gimmick.

Out of the gimmicks so far it was the best one. I think I'd give it like a 6.5 maybe 7/10.
Megas were handled wrongly for the most part so I can't really give that more than a 5/10.
Z-moves are probably the worst one, like a 3/10.
And Terastal, although the gimmick itself is actually solid, I will forever hate the stupid looking hats and I gotta give it a 5/10 as well.

That said, I too would not mind gimmicks disappearing entirely. They more often that not don't really add anything to the gameplay. Like my first Violet playthrough had me not Tera even once after the initial introduction to it. It's just wholly unnecessary to use it to win. At least megas and Dynamax would force you to also use the gimmick if you didn't want to lose several Pokemon, but even then you could make do without using the gimmick. Z-moves are by far the most unnecessary one.

It was honestlt my favourite as well. I personally prefer a no gimmick game at this point. Megas are cool, but i hate that they're limited to certain pokemon. Dynamax/Gigantamax solves this issue quite well: everyone has a Dynamax, except for some Pokemon that have special forms and that just works really well.
I would say tera is more interesting, but the hats are horrible.
I am honna rate D/G as a 7.5/8 out of 10
