Finally, someone else posted in this thread! XD
Congratulations for the chat's victory in Pokemon Emerald Version! :t384: ^^ I
really wish I saw the final run's live completion; the Hoenn Elite 4 put us through way too much trouble.. XD Well, at least they proved their supremacy...kind of (looking at you, Pokemon that cheaply spam Double Team/Protect/Recover!). I'm glad that we saw at least one Shiny Pokemon (Chinchou) and had
Emerald as the first run to sport a Level 100 party Pokemon (M4 the Azumarill). But my gosh, the Hoenn Elite 4 had us on the ropes for
days.. The amount of hax that the random-number generator (RNG) doled out was just
insane (most evident with M4's Rollout missing at critical moments). I'm glad that Wallace was done in by Rollout, though; serves him and his Milotic (and the rest of his party) right. XD If any of the streams encapsulate the pure definition of
The Determinator trope, the
Emerald run should be the prime example, for sure.
As for the
FireRed run, some stuff seems interesting... I'm so glad we selected another girl! At first, I was averse to her being named "A" like the
Emerald heroine (a ridiculously common/predictable name input), but some of the lore tying the
Emerald run to the
FireRed run (while still allowing ample room for the
FireRed run to do its own thing in terms of lore and such) has been astounding; for instance,
"The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning".. I've heard of Truant Machop, Overheating/Arena-Trapping Hoppip, "Hyperbug" (Surskit with Hyper Beam), all of which seem great.
It will be interesting to see exactly what has been randomized when we complete the game. So far, it seems like the list of available wild Pokemon within given locations has been randomized (although the list seems to retain the same randomization as the original randomization for a particular area if you revisit it..?) Also, I'm not sure about common Trainers' names, but it seems like Trainer Classes have remained identical.. Each Trainer's Pokemon party seems randomized from a list of thematic Pokemon (for example, Kanto's Hikers seem able to use
any common Pokemon of the routes they are on). I'm awaiting to see if any legendary Pokemon were included in the randomizations; still waiting to see a Mewtwo pop out of nowhere!
I
love that the Gym Leaders get their Type affinities randomized as well; provides much more variety compared to the original TPP
Pokemon Red Version run! For instance, Misty is now a Poison-type Gym Leader. It seems that they still get to receive Pokemon from certain pools (for example, Lt. Surge, a Ground-type Pokemon, is limited to randomly-assigned Ground-type Pokemon of Generation 3). I'm wondering if the "randomized Type specialty" will extend to the Kanto Elite 4? Who knows what Pokemon that the Kanto Champion will receive.. (the Pokemon that was his randomized starter Pokemon should be fittingly fully-evolved by the time we face him, though, if that's even possible..)
Something strange I noticed is that several Pokemon have accessed Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon, and Hyper Beam already.. XD I expect some variety down the line, but it's weird that we've been fortunate to receive the "elemental Hyper Beam" moves so early!
I'm wondering if Cacophony (a clone of the Soundproof Ability) was included in the randomization just for kicks..? :P
Oh, and we had better complete the Sevii Island 1-3 sidequest (it helps to add more distinct events for lore)
before taking on the Kanto Elite 4! Here's hoping....
((Move me if necessary))
So, a while back, I heard about this bizarre thing where people played Pokemon at the same time. My opinion at the time? Pshaw. They'll never even finish. About a week later, they finish. O_O I am not on a piece of technology that can run Twitch most of the time, so usually I have no idea where they up to. Right now we are playing
FR/
LG And we have been in the PokeCenter for about 30 minutes. Longer probably, but that's how long I've been there. Walking, open maps, Check the PC. Repeat. This is tedious, but some of the people watching think of the funniest things to say. Definitely check it out
here if you already haven't.
Glad to see a fellow newcomer to TPP! Sorry to hear that you can't run the Twitch stream most of the time, though; I've encountered that issues a few times, too... :( On a side-note, that's one of the reasons that I strongly advocated for the inclusion of the live-update links in Bulbapedia's
Twitch Plays Pokemon article, because not everyone can constantly run the stream (if they can even run it at all)...
In any case, you might want to check out the
Twitch Plays Pokemon FireRed Reddit live-updater! It is largely text (much less intensive on computer resources than the stream itself, I would think) and typically automatically updates itself whenever an updater posts a recent event (some individuals may need to manually refresh the page every few minutes when using older browsers, though). Admittedly, the chat helps to enhance the stream itself, but the updaters seem to provide good doses of comedies every now and then. I hope this helps! :)
And yeah, it can get tedious during the boring parts where we walk around aimlessly and slog through repetitive wild Pokemon battles, but the "plot-based/important" battles and other moments tend to help make up for the monotony, IMO.
I'm disappointed they moved on before even completing Emerald TBH
Although I'm very thankful that the streamer allowed the chat to defeat
Emerald's Champion (Wallace), I felt as if the game should have "truly" ended at the
BATTLE FRONTIER WHAT WHAT battle against Steven Stone in Meteor Falls; he seems just as
"Bonus Boss"-ish as Red of
Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver does (except Red gets distinct, 'true' (?) ending credits with
his battle, apparently)). However, I would have felt greatly disappointed if we had moved on to
FireRed (at the point when the first countdown timer had reached its endpoint) without even defeating the Champion in
Emerald..
Moreover, although it added to lore a little, the "timer" imposed on
Emerald didn't help matters much; we didn't have to go rushing off to
FireRed..
Actually, they DID finish Emerald. It took 21 days, 6 of them were spend on the League, which they attempted for 100+ times.
It was a Machop with Truant, since this is a randomized FireRed. So don't be surprise by what you saw/will be seeing.
I ROFL'd when I read that our starter Pokemon Machop had Truant.. Of all the Abilities in the game.. XD I'm hoping that it returns to A's Pokemon party, as I'd love to see it become a team player (not to mention that I'm eager to see what its Ability could change into if/when it evolves into Machoke).
(me as well)
I don't think it's very funny or interesting on face value, but I just love reading the lore made up by the bored users. It's like a new twist on a story I've read a million times.
I can't say I'm following it anymore, because imgur is really touchy about any more TPP posts and I can't be bothered to start using reddit just for that one subreddit :p
The chat reactions can be quite amusing at times, too (although you usually have to be watching at the right moment.. XD) - the
Emerald run's chat was too funny when we got stuck at telling Wallace where Sky Pillar was (one simple question, yet the menu probably posed the second-biggest challenge to us out of anything else in Hoenn XD, surpassed by the Hoenn Elite 4). I think the
Red run was the most hilarious, though; so much wonderful strange stuff happened on our
first run (like getting trapped in Cinnabar Mansion, and "Venomoth vs. Dragonite") that felt too surreal. XD
Not too sure about Imgur limiting TPP posts, but there's always stuff like
r/pokemon and
r/smashbros (and countless other subreddits)), if you need incentive to use Reddit more. :P
So apparently a Hoppip used Overheat and swept them? I wasn't there for it, but gosh, randomizers like that are just bat-chiz over the top.
AWESOME.. :p Also, apparently all the Hoppip in the game were randomly bestowed with the Arena Trap Ability (in Generation 3, you're trapped in battle unless you use a Flying-type Pokemon and/or a Pokemon with the Levitate or Run Away Abilities), so those encounters will be quite feared, I'm guessing. XD
A HAS CHOSEN THE DOME FOSSIL. WE'VE BETRAYED LORD HELIX.
I'm actually glad that this happened (oddly enough, on the first run where Democracy Mode has been entirely disabled, at least to the present moment); contrasts with
Red Version's Helix Fossil quite nicely. XD I can't wait to see what it gets revived into!
--------
Finally, can someone please explain what the image below is supposed to mean in terms of TPP events/the
FireRed run..? Thanks in advance! (what I'm gleaning is that Bill is in control of the Kanto randomizations and mans the computer; the first 3 player characters are in some kind of stasis and are possibly energizing the room, and some of the released Pokemon of past runs (like Abby the Charmeleon, DigRat the Raticate, Admiral Sentret, and Zexy the Torchic) are also in stasis (again, possibly being utilized as energy sources for the room):
