Suggestion: Two New Sections

    Section 1 - International Language Section:
    In this section, you could:
    -Get help with Foreign Language Homework
    -Learn new languages
    -Have discussions with people who already speak that language and stuff.
    It'd be an easy way to learn as you go with Google Translate and stuff. I'd say you could make threads where you ask for help and stuff, but most threads could be like "The Official Spanish Speaking Thread" and stuff. I saw it on an older forum, and it worked pretty well. I learned a few things about the Dutch language that I didn't know.

    Section 2 - Mature Section:
    This section would be a private section for people who are 18 years or older. It would be a private section to where you could only enter if you were over 18. You could be able to swear and talk about topics that you really couldn't with some of the younger kids. Obviously, I'm not 18 yet, so I wouldn't even be able to use it, but I've always thought the idea of a Mature Section would be nice. Sometimes it's nice to be able to have discussions without younger kids interfering or anything. (No Offense)
     
    There is a foreign language fan club, I believe. And probably some smaller ones for specific languages. I remember being a part of a French club here. I don't think there's enough demand or need for a section or even a subforum for different languages though, especially when you consider this is an English speaking forum. It'd be weird to have a full section dedicated to it, and I don't think it'd be very popular, and it'd die out quickly.

    Mature section is brought up quite a bit, actually. I don't think it will ever happen again because it was tried long ago and didn't work. I think that since the under 13 members are banned (unless they get consent), maybe it's time to give it another go, but I don't know. I have seen some ignorant, rude, and immature people over 18 here on PC, worse than the young members that have the parental consent to be here. So I just feel like perhaps our memberbase isn't ready for that kind of forum again. I'm not opposed to it though.

    That's quite a specialist thing to add to something like a Pokémon forum - would it really fit in? Fan Clubs & Groups has historically been used for this sort of thing including multiple different language-themed clubs having been made but none have been that active, especially not enough to warrant a whole section based on them. Also how many people on PC would be in a position to help teach someone a new language? It's a nice idea but I think it's better suited for a forum other than PC.

It's fine to talk about this stuff in IMs/PMs/etc and even on forums that suit the need, but I don't understand adding one to a Pokémon forum. Does it really fit with the site's atmosphere or purpose? I'd be okay with a sub-forum in D&D for more serious topics like rape, paedophilia, etc, to be discussed, potentially with an age restriction, but I don't see the need for an over 18s section for swearing and talking about racey topics because they just don't fit in with PC. People may disagree here and please say if you do, but that's how I see it.

    You made some great suggestions but I don't personally see them working here.

    I'm gonna be honest, I think I've always just like not payed much attention to the fan clubs and groups. Didn't know they existed. I thought only Pokemon Clubs existed. And, I really thought that they would both be sub-forums. International Language Section in CC&P and Mature in D&D. That whole D&D section is mostly for the mature audiences anyways. Having that wouldn't really change the atmosphere. It would just sort of be a getaway for the adults on this forum who do still love Pokemon. Obviously the discussions wouldn't be about Porn and stuff. Just maybe M movies, stronger discussions that are more sensitive, stuff like that.

    For the International Language Section it would actually fit into this forum. We are a global forum, so it would work. However, I didn't know we had language clubs and stuff. That makes up for that.

    I could definitely get on board with the 18+ section then, permitting it wasn't too crass and didn't get filled with 'inappropriate' threads (if such a thing exists for an 18+ section haha). I would prefer for it to stay as mature discussions & debates rather than casual mature chat (could well have a Daily Chit-Chat thread for that though) to avoid it becoming like the last attempt at a mature section, but if the people using it are as mature as the section would imply then I'd happily see this happen as a D&D sub-forum.
     
    Doesn't D&D already cover so-called 'mature' topics? Unless we're looking for a forum specifically to talk about those things that you would feel uncomfortable talking with your parents with, D&D seems to have that covered.

    So then is the idea to have a 'no-limits' area on what can be talked about? That's gonna require a good amount of supervision, which I think is one of the reasons brought up before about why a the idea of a mature section has been shot down before. We should probably expect such a section to get out of hand from time to time, and although that can happen anywhere, something tells me that in a mature section it could lead to something worse than an argument about which Pokemon should be in what tier or whatever. Basically I would worry that people would get bullied or harassed, even if unintentionally.
     
    Higher staff have consistently refused to reinstate the T-Dome since either before or shortly after I joined; either way that's quite some time so the refusal is evidently vehement, but at this point in TPC's lifetime I think it might actually be workable, and that an age restriction would be appropriate (although given how users are free to change their birthday at will, depite the provision of false information being in breach of the ToS, it wouldn't be feasible to enforce at present). Also, it should be understood that this 'mature section' would be more of a general discussion area than explicitly a debate area like I guess the T-Dome was, is that right? Starting to sound like the VIP Forum now, in a way. Maybe, given an enforceable age restriction, it could (either instead, or also) be a place where the sale or trade of Pokemon merchandise (mostly trading cards, I imagine) is allowed? Just a thought; I don't know the legal implications of that.

    Still, like AlexOzzyCake I don't think such a section really has a place on this site.

    Okay, obviously I wasn't around when the Thunderdome (that's what I imagine T-Dome refers to) was around, as I was nine years old and hadn't even heard of this place, but I think it's something that could be a welcome addition. I think Debates & Discussions takes away a lot of its usability, but perhaps it could be something that is set-up, or an official topic could be created for brainstorming, and the members who would be eligible to participate in the forum could discuss the practicality, viability, and uses (what would be posted there) of it? It's definitely worth some meticulous analyzing rather than just being shrugged off. As for a multilingual forum, there's little practical use as members that aren't fluent in the English language, as I remember from my frequent welcoming days, tend to try their best or use Google Translate anyway. A separate forum, in my opinion, would serve little practical use.
     
    Language forum - no. For reasons Ozzy and others stated. Clubs aren't active enough to lead me to believe that a whole section would have a big use.

    Mature forum - why? Really. Why? I would like to hear more concrete things that could be discussed there before I can judge what I really think. But overall, I should think there are plenty of other places on the web to discuss really mature stuff than PokéCommunity. Then again, D&D has had an interesting run. And it is nice to be able to talk about pretty much anything on PC with people you already know even if you joined once upon a time for pokémon. But yeah, I don't quite understand what 18+ people would have to talk about that 13-17 people shouldn't be part of, on this forum.

    As for the buying and selling, Cassino, I think it's mostly that PC doesn't want to be called out as responsible if things go wrong and people get scammed or so.
     
    From what I've heard, we used to be a lot more cliquey and create a lot more drama. But, from what I've noticed, that seems to have simmered down.

    Also, it wouldn't even be hard to really moderate. Most of the people on here seem to have a pretty good head on their shoulders for what is ethical and what isn't. They should be able to manage posting in a Mature section as long as you provide some good rules. We have enough staff over 18 or around that age that could handle it. Even Livewire. He just got promoted and he's in a section like that already. It'd probably be no trouble for him.

    This section will work just as well as any other section we have.

    Oh, my little Nickles...that's called group text messaging! But no really, while I don't think it needs a whole forum, perhaps maybe a thread in D&D or OVP? I think it'd be cute and helpful...especially to those of us that are education majors. 8D But I'm elementary, and people in that age group can't be on PC so I just lost my target audience. lol

    I actually quite like the idea of a homework thread, though, tbqh. We can have PC Professors and stuff like that!

    As for the two sections in the OP, the language section is a lovely idea but I fear it won't get enough activity aside from the few faithful. The mature section is interesting though, given how COPPA killed off under 13s. I think it might be okay to possibly try T-dome again, but I don't know what people would talk about that can't be discussed in D&D or even CCP.

    Look I'm gonna be brutally honest here, I think you're taking this hitman stuff way too seriously.

    Personally, I am in favor of a mature section. As my dear friend and fellow assassin Dipu has so brutally mentioned, the 13s are mostly dead now. We did it, we got them all.

    But in all seriousness, I think this could really work, especially now. As for why we should even consider this section, more mature 18+ oriented off-topic conversations, possibly allow swearing... etc.

    But why are those reasons to add in a new section? Just so that people can have somewhere to swear? You can Skype your friends or even text your dog if you want to swear lots but I'm not sure what positives it'd bring having a section where you're allowed to swear. And equally, what real presence does an 18+ section have for a Pokémon forum? Other than "it'd be nice to have" for some people I can't see any reason to implement it in a forum like this.

    The homework/school forum is a cool idea though and definitely fits better into the atmosphere here, but would it be enough for a whole section to be made on it? Honestly I'd love to see it made if it'd be active enough but it strikes me as more of a club idea. (Though wasn't that tried before and it didn't get much response?)
     
    Homework thread would be really nice, though if it was unpopular in the past then I doubt many people would use it now if there was one today.

    18+, I think I suggested it before, but if h staff has good reason for not reinstating what there was, I'll let it go.
     
    Alrighty.

    D&D, for the most part, covers more 'mature' things, so long as it's not vehemently explicit - there is a line. RL & I ok with a lot being there. And by the looks of Kwesi's announcement, I inadvertently reverted D&D to the T-Dome, for the most part, minus the explicitness and wide-spread flaming. XD I think what we have there now works fine, I'm kind of iffy allowing swearing and more explicit threads, although I think with enough moderation and cooperation from the users, it could work.

    As for the homework & language thing, I wonder if we could make that fit in D&D's Help & Advice Thread/Post Your Problems thread? Maybe think about re-purposing it for that? Or make a sticky for just that purpose? Foreign languages and such, anything related to academia, etc, would fall under what D&D is, basically.
