Two Truths and a Lie!

Reviving this old game which used to be popular back in the day!

The rules are simple: List three Pokémon-related things relevant to you, such as a favourite Pokémon, a memory, personal headcanons etc. - anything! The catch is that only two of them should be true, and the person below has to guess which of the three is a lie. Please put the answer in a spoiler tag!

This goes without saying but checking the answer instead of guessing is against the rules and defeats the fun! You can respond to the lie with a before-and-after, for example:

I'll start us off...

1. My favourite Pokémon has not changed in 16 years
2. Outside of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, my favourite spin-off is Pokémon Ranger
3. I've never played through a Gen 3 game

Before: 3 seems highly unlikely to me to be the lie. It's either 1 or 2, but idk for sure which it is. 1 seems unlikelier, but idk your spinoff game preferences =p
I'll go with #1 I guess.

After: Nope. Oh well. At least it was the other one I was doubting between xD

1. I like Alolan Golem more than the Kanto Golem.
2. I've never used legendaries during a playthrough.
3. I never spend any time in Battle Towers.

#2 is the lie. There are multiple instances, but to name one: On my first Moon playthrough I loved Lunala's design so much I yeeted another team member off and put Lunala on my team instead =3

Although I don't like Battle Towers, I have spent some time in them on several occasions (usually for an item that requires BP) so that one is true =p

2. I preference Lugia over Ho-Oh.

#1 is the lie. I do not like the design whatsoever and prefer Torracat from this line.

Delphox and Typhlosion are among my favorite fire types! =D

3. It's a highly random guess.

'I never spend any time in Battle Towers' - since I actually have, this would also be a lie.
So you did actually guess a lie, because I derped up xD

Before: 1 is definitely the lie. I remember having seen you complain about Incineroar's design somewhere around these forums before.

After: Eeeeeyup, I was right! (No biggie though, to each their own.)

Now, three Ghost-type related statements:
1. I had other Ghost-type favourites before Mimikyu was revealed.
2. I have used a Ghost-type in every main game team.
3. My favourite Ghost-type specialist isn't from a canon Pokémon game, but rather a fan game.

#2 is the lie. My Diamond, Platinum and SoulSilver teams featured no Ghost-types at all. From Black onwards, though, I have had at least one Ghost-type in each team.

#1: my previous Ghost favourites before Mimi were the Litwick line, the Honedge line and the Gastly line.
#3: While my favourite Ghost specialist from the canon games is either Acerola or Allister, my absolute favourite is Sheriff Caspar from Xenoverse. 💖

1. I clean my inventory regularly and keep it neat when playing Pokemon games.
2. I once kept a Cyndaquil and never evolved it for an entire playthrough.
3. I have never reached Red in HG/SS.

Before: Hmmm, 1 must be the lie. Who in the world actually does that?
After: Oooooops, I think my question has been answered! Good going though; I'm actually surprised to find someone who cleans their inventory and leaves it in a not-orderly-mess state.

Three Electric-type statements:
1. My favourite Electric-type Pokémon is Rotom.
2. My favourite Electric-type Pokémon is Kantonian Raichu.
3. I don't like any of the canon Electric-type specialists.

Surprise, #3 is the lie. Rotom and K-Raichu share a spot for favourite Electric-type. And while I may not like most canon Electric-type specialists, Clemont and Sophocles are baby. Genius brand of baby, but still baby. 🥺

I also like a few Electric specialists from fan games but that's another story for another day.

Before: Hmm these all seem likely lol. However 3 is probably out as the first two exclude each other, logically speaking, and one needs to be true. Unless your favorite Electric type is a tie between the two, I guess 🤔 Given your preference for Ghost types I'll go with #1.

After: lmao, I did consider it, but was like 'nah, that would be kinda cheap' xD

1. I like Gigantamax Eevee.
2. My favorite Dark type Pokemon is Umbreon.
3. I wish there were was an Eeveelution for every type.

#2 is the lie. My favorite Dark type Pokemon is actually Absol, though Umbreon is not far behind it and is in second place!

Gigantamax Eevee looks like a giant fluffy pillow so I like it =3

Before: Hmmm, #2 must be the lie, since Umbreon is probably not even your favourite Eeveelution. Your avatar's Glaceon, after all.

After: I was right, but for the wrong reasons. Whoops?

Three nationality-related crack headcanons here, but I only believe two of these at present! Guess which one I don't believe.
1. The Subway Bosses (Ingo and Emmet) are not originally Unovan. They're actually Galarian, but moved to Unova as teens - hence why they have American accents in Masters.
2. Despite the doubt that the games cast upon it, Lt. Surge is Unovan through and through. Game Freak just doesn't think it's worth mentioning at this point due to the lost real-world correspondences.
3. Koga, being obviously not from any of the Japan-based regions, actually comes from the yet-unnamed Spain-based region that we will see in Scarlet and Violet.

Spoiler:

#2 is the one I don't buy any longer, not after playing Xenoverse. Even if Eldiw isn't canon, the game got me to consider that Surge might be from another region based on the US that we have yet to see.

#1 was inspired by the twins' special costumes in Masters; they always gave me an "Englishman in New York" vibe, but then I had to reconcile it with their American accents. #3 is also inspired by Masters, because as I told my mom, "he sounds like a Spaniard speaking English while doing a fake Japanese accent." Although, a lot of former Spanish colonies do have sizable Japanese populations, so...

I would guess 1 as the lie. (which turns out was wrong). You had an interested headcanon/theory topic but I owe it another visit, as I haven't viewed it in a while.

1. I finished my first playthrough Pokemon Platinum in the span of a single week while being awfully sick at home.
2. I like playing Pokemon games while I catch up on podcasts.
3. My first Pokemon game was Black/White. Initially I found the series confusing and didn't want much to do with it.

3 is a definite lie. I will attempt to finish any game, even if I don't fully understand the mechanics. Besides, we couldn't even afford Black/White or many games when I was a child. Purchased it much later in life at a mall.

I picked 3. and got it right; but for the wrong reasons. ^^"

1. The most recent Pokemon game I finished was Ultra Moon.
2. I've beaten the E4 multiple hundreds of times across all generations.
3. I once believed Corphish evolved into Flygon.

1. The battery of my N3DS died and I lost motivation in the process. That makes it the first main line series game that I started but never finished.

Before: Hmm.... #1 sounds plausible. I know you've played newer games, but it's likely you didn't fully finish them.
2 and 3 both sound like they could be the lie. I think I'll just go with #2, because multiple hundreds of times is just a lot =p

After: Welp I'm never gonna get one right xD

1. I've never played the Pokemon Ranger games.
2. I've never played the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games.
3. I've never played Pokemon Conquest.

2 is the lie as I have actually played a Mystery Dungeon game once. Be it only for a couple hours before getting utterly bored with it and never bothering with it again xD

Before: Well... #3 sounds so bonkers I think it might actually be true, and #2 also sounds like something you would do. That leaves #1 as the lie, but now I'm curious as to what the possible explanation might be.

After: Yep, I was right! I'm sorry that happened to you though. :C

EDIT: The above was for Megan's post - I just got ninja'd. Never mind it.

Three "Pokémon in childhood"-related statements:
1. I got into Pokémon because of the anime.
2. I completed my first Pokémon game when I was 9 years old.
3. I have had a bootleg Pikachu plush since I was 4.

#2 is the lie. It was an emulated version of Ruby because, well, Argentina, but I never completed it. I remember having earned up to the 7th badge, but the Dive segment turned me off so much that I just left the game be. The first game I completed was Diamond, when I was 14, and the first Hoenn game I completed was Emerald, not too long after Diamond and Platinum.

As for #1, I did watch a lot of the first few seasons of the anime, but I barely remember anything about it. (Hell, having been a huge Koga simp at one point, I don't even remember having watched his only episode!) And as for #3, needless to say, the poor guy has seen better days. I do have the feeling he sorta came back as the Mimikyu my mom got me as a "get well" buddy four years ago, though. 🤔

I'll guess 2. Seems oddly specific to remember.

and I was correct this time.

1. I left my cartridge of Pokemon X in a doctor's office waiting lounge. It was never seen again.
2. I'm very fond of Spinda and have Hall Of Famed it more than once.
3. I have no problems erasing my game files. It's fun restarting.

Before: 99% sure #3 is true. Don't recall you ever talking about Spinda so it might be the lie. 1 also could be the lie, why would you bring a Pokemon game and leave it outside your handheld?
Not really sure how to decide between the two so I'll just go with #2.

After: Oh well. I'm horrible with these aren't I xD

1. I mistook Volcarona for a legendary when I first found it in BW.
2. I mistook female Hippowdon for a shiny when I first saw it.
3. The very first time I encountered a shiny I turned off the console to reload a previous save thinking my game was bugged.

My very first shiny was in the Emerald Safari Zone, and I full well knew that it was a shiny.
Catching it was another matter entirely, though. Let's just say I dislike Safari Zone shinies now =p

Before: #1 is probably the lie. It was well-known when BW were released in English that Volcarona wasn't a Legendary. If anything, you mistook it for a pseudo like Hydreigon.

After: Oops, my bad! I'm sorry you lost your first shiny at the Safari Zone though; I had the exact same thing happen in Diamond. ;_;

Three Shiny Pokémon-related statements:
1. I have met the same Shiny Pokémon in the same spot in different save files of the same game.
2. I have run into the same species of Shiny Pokémon twice in the same game at full odds.
3. My first hatched Shiny took only 22 eggs.

#1 is the lie! Although, it's this close to being true. Both times I played Let's Go Pikachu, I caught a Shiny Rattata on a route leading to Vermilion City. However, it was Route 6 in the first save file, and Route 11 in the second. Fun fact: the second one was female, so I named her Esmeralda after Quasimodo's pet rat in Hotel Transylvania.

#2: My first caught Shiny overall was a Psyduck in Platinum, and later I ran into another one by complete accident in the same save file - no Poké Radar, Masuda Method or anything. Don't remember what I named either.
#3: It was a Cyndaquil in Y! I couldn't believe my luck when I saw his reddish-brown fur shortly after I had gotten started! Named him Gao, after the protagonist of the original Buddyfight. He's now a Typhlosion sitting in one of my Alola games.

Before: Not sure, but I would say 3. 1 seems quite odd, but maybe you were looking for the same pokemon twice lol. Also 22 seems pretty much a very low number.

After: Oh well, lol. You were really lucky with Cyndaquil ahah

1. I didn't make my Oshawott evolve in BW because I didn't like Sammurott
2. I randomly found a shiny in UM, without trying to hunt for it
3. I have never played Pokémon Ranger

#3 is the lie. I played all of them, three times lol.

#1 yeah, I wasn't a fan of gen 5 pokemon and I still am not now, but I started to like some of them. Back to when it was released I liked only 10 pokemon I guess, lol
#2 I got my 3ds after a long while and played UM after months. I was in Haina Desert and my first encounter was a shiny Krokorok. I was lucky lol, but at the same time it was the first one I had ever found in all those years. So yeah I deserved it lol
#3 I love the series lol

After: Wait... I'm right for once. Makes me wonder if I should just avoid overthinking these lol

1. My first ever shiny that I actually caught was a Hariyama
2. Including the fixed Shiny Gyarados, I caught 3 shinies in my HeartGold game.
3. I caught a shiny Spinarak in Pokemon Moon.

I caught a shiny Ariados at Malie garden. It was never a Spinarak =p

2. I caught a shiny Graveler and Magnemite! Full odds =D
The Graveler was at Victory Road. Meaning it should know Selfdestruct. If I had not had a certain mon on my team it would have probably used self destruct on me.
So... thanks Psyduck that I evolved into Golduck. Your Damp ability let me catch it =D
I actually low key panicked at the time as I knew the dang things liked to blow up =p Looked at my mons' moves and stats and saw the description on my Psyduck's Damp ability and just went 'phew'.

1. Shiny Hariyama in Emerald =D
Given that the one in the Safari Zone ran from me (a Golduck btw) I was absolutely ecstatic my game blessed me with another shiny, and one I could actually catch this time =D

I'll go in reverse from how I usually guess and say 2 because it sounds the most unlikely...annnnd

Which turns out is wrong.

1. I finished Brilliant Diamond and never finished Legends: Arceus
2. In Brilliant Diamond, I lost to Cynthia a ridiculous amount of times yet cleared the rest of the game with ease.
3. I finished the Dex in Legends in exactly 110 hours on my in game time clock.

Before: #3 is almost certainly the lie, because it would be highly improbable that you finished the game without a few loose minutes. Plus, it's either that or #1, and I could understand why you never finished PLA.

After: Bingo.

1. The Sinnoh Battle Frontier is my favourite set of battle facilities, but I never earned all prints.
2. Despite Ingo being one of my favourite Pokémon characters and a very strong contender for main husbando, I have never once challenged the Battle Subway.
3. I made it to 49 battles on Multi Battle format (with Shauna as a partner) in the Battle Maison in Y, only to lose to Dana and Nita.

#3 is the lie. It was actually Doubles, which means I lost to Evelyn. Felt pretty bad about it not because I'd lost, but because her reaction tugged at the heartstrings. I don't think I challenged the Battle Maison again after that.

As for #1, I only earned the Silver Prints on the Battle Arcade, Battle Hall and Battle Factory; I attempted the Battle Tower, but never reached Palmer. And as for #2, I never even checked out the Subway in either Black or Black 2 - and I have made a vow with myself to never do it, because I don't wanna end up hating him (or his brother) when he inevitably kicks my rear-end. 🤣
