Welcome to Video Game's Poll of the Week! Thanks to the permission of Pokemon General's moderator Brendino, Video Games will now be hosting a weekly series that pits certain video game characters, levels, and universes against other to see which one will come out on top! In last week's Poll of the Week, we had our first ever tie between which music rift was better with Guitar Hero and Rock Band splitting the votes 50/50.
Expand on your answers! Tell us why you prefer one video game element over another! Posts that don't elaborate as to why specific elements were chosen will be deleted, and a warning may be given out through an infraction if it's a reoccurring issue.
Note: The options chosen for this poll were determined by if they had a sequel to the initial game; if there was only one game to the series, then it wasn't included in the poll. If you have a matchup that you would like to see, whether between video game characters or worlds/universes, send me a VM or PM and if your matchup gets chosen then an emblem will be given out as a reward!

    Without further ado:

Which video game series scared the living pants off of you the most?

Amnesia definitely terrified me. It still freaks me out, especially the Cellar Archives with the invisible water monster thing chasing you.

Silent Hill is a close second. The sound you hear when an enemy is close is so stressful.

Did you ever play the second Amnesia? I've never played A Machine For Pigs so I was curious as to how it held up against the original.

Nope, never played it. I was wondering the same thing, though. I've heard the sequel isn't as good as the first game, though. I think I already understand the type of atmosphere in Amnesia, so unless the sequel is different, I doubt I'll buy it. But again, I've never played it, so I don't know. :/

That's usually the case with horror games. The sequels are sometime's really difficult to live up to the hype that the first game created. I can't speak for every game series on this list, but I know that the original Dead Space was a tough game to follow up with. The second one was alright and the third one was just bad in my opinion - mainly just because once you leave yourself susceptible to that kind of "jump scare environment," then there really isn't much more that can really surprise you if they stick to the same game formula.

    Right now, my money's on Outlast first because holy crap, Outlast. {XD}

Voted only 'other' because the Penumbra series was absent from the poll (and aforementioned Outlast, if I can give a shout-out to something that has no sequel).

Penumbra got to me more than Amnesia did, and none of the other things really did it for me.
I think I mentioned it in another thread -- but there's something heart attack inducing about being chased by the things you can't kill while you're trying to solve the goddamn puzzles. Maybe that's why Outlast gets to me, too. Every time you do a thing, one of the 'stalkers' comes out.

Awwww there's no Condemned on the list :( I love that game.

I voted for Dead Space and Other. I haven't played from most of these series, but I did play FEAR and honestly it was more stressful than scary. I would have liked to have seen Condemned up there, because it was very effective for its melee combat system that meant you usually had to get close to your attackers if you wanted to survive. This combined with a city wide hallucination made it a very scary game. The sequel, while in a lot of ways not as good, was really good at fostering your character's insanity and alcoholism, the main character's darkness manifesting as a masked man that talks to you throughout the game. Plus there's a bear. Holy crap there's a bear.

You would absolutely adore that game Catherine though. If you get heart attacks from Penumbra - which sorry I didn't add, I've never played that series before - then you'll completely soil yourself from Catherine. Game's amazing nonetheless.

What did the bear do? :O
Amnesia, just amnesia. ;-; That game is terrifying.
What part of the game do you find terrifying?

I'm gonna spoiler this and recommend that anyone who can handle horror games go play both Condemned games. For anyone else, what I remember of the bear:

I can't believe I actually forgot about Condemned. Those two games were all that my parents bought initially when they surprised me with a 360. Such a good game.. and those guys came out from everywhere in those little dark rooms. D:

Haha, a bit too crude for my tastes, I'm afraid. Still, didn't know that was a horror game, in any event. :P

The atmosphere is really what got me. And there were some really unique mechanics that added to it, like sanity. And maybe I was told by some people that the game was terrifying so maybe I was anticipating ever jump-scare and maybe that in of itself kept me on edge, maybe. Anyway there are only two game out there that I can say I wanted to stop playing, Amnesia and SCP containment breach. Though I personally though the second game was scarier, it's a free indie horror game so I didn't think it counted.

That sounds like a terribly terrific experience! Were you able to beat the game in the end even though you wanted to stop playing it?

No, I didn't manage to finish it.

But it wasn't that I was too scared to play it as much as it didn't run very well on my computer and I needed to uninstall it to free memory on my computer.

I might play it again once I get a better computer though.

Come to think of it, that might also have something to do with why I just didn't like it. Not that I disliked the feature in itself, but that I was expecting it to be.. different.
When everyone praised the 'unique mechanic' I was expecting it to be Eternal Darkness levels of sanity effects -- that game messed with your head when your character started going nuts -- not screen distortion effects like he's got a migraine or he's hallucinating, lol.

I dunno. I'll probably give it another whirl at some point to see what all the fuss is about. :P

I liked the part where Eternal Darkness made you think that your Memory Card was erased.

I would played the game just because of that, but I don't own a Gamecube, so I can't.

Haha, it was such a mean game. "Saving Game.... Game Successfully Deleted" Then it just cuts to a black screen for way too long.

And you're more than welcome to play mine! =p

If you ended up shutting off your game out of frustration, what would happen?

Amnesia: The Dark Descent was too scary for me to even play. I tried to get through the very first room and couldn't manage to do it. And I played it at noon on a Saturday. So Amnesia is easily the most frightening to me. :(

Dead Space was very scary too, but by the third one, I was used to what the mechanics were and knew what to do. Dead Space would be a close second in terms of terror.

I enjoyed F.E.A.R. too but it never scared me as much as creeped me out. I enjoyed playing those though too. :)

You should record yourself playing Amnesia and post it as a LP in the LP section. I'd play virtual YouTube dollars to see you soil yourself.
