Wait, Pinsir doesn't evolve?

With a now staggering total of 649 Pokemon some Pokemon are bound to have undeniable similarities. Maybe even to the point where you swore that certain Pokemon were a part of the same evolutionary family. So has there ever been a time when you have mistaken one Pokemon for another Pokemon's evolution? Also has the opposite happened to you? Meaning did you ever think that one Pokemon wasn't another Pokemon's evolution only to find it was?

As for myself I've done it a few times. I was certain that Pinsir evolved into Heracross back when Gold and Silver came out. Same goes for Breloom and Tropius. Both were grass types and had a dinosaur appearance so I figured one most evolve into the other. The most recent this has happened to me is with Luvdisc and Mamanbou.

The opposite also happened to me. For a while I had no idea that Trapinch had any relation to Flygon. So you can only imagine my surprise at first when it evolved into Vibrava and then the shock I went through when it evolved into Flygon. I was only about 10 at the time so bare with me. :( Same goes for Burmy and Mothim.

well i can relate as far as the trapinch goes.......as i wasnt playin pokemon when the hoenn and sinnoh regions were introduced (i was done after crystal, but stared playin again because of the remakes).....i received trapinch from one of my lil bros from a trade and was like " wtf this is useless"....i eventually found out about flygon and i currently breed here and there for one to join the team.....

I used to think that Budew evolved into Cherubi evolved into Cherrim.

This. But it didn't help that I had one of those Pokedex books that said that Trapinch didn't evolve into Vibrava. So I could never figure out how the heck to get a Flygon. :P

Lol, the whole Trapinch evolution thing also confused me when I was a kid. I really, really wanted a Flygon, but you couldn't find a Vibrava in the wild. You can imagine my surprise after looking it up on the internet. xD

Well for a long time I thought that Wormadam evolves into a Mothim.
I didn't know about split gender evolution...

I'm still not sure whether it's Slowpoke or Slowbro that evolves into Slowking. I don't care for the species anyway, so I don't make a point of remembering.

I never understood how some people thought Pinsir and Heracross were related. They're bugs, yes, but they're completely different.

Slowpoke evolves into Slowking by trading with a King's Rock.

For me it had to do with the horns and the body shape. They both were beetles and had horns. Also Scyther was given an evolution in that generation so I figured Pinsir would have one too.

ive always thought scyther jynx pinsir magmar and electabuzz were all johto pokemon, lmao.

I thought that Hitmonlee evolved into Hitmonchan during my early days of the fandom because they were next to each other in the Pokedex.

Well, it was only when Seasor (in-game Emerald trade Horsea) had hit lv.100 as a Seadra that I concluded that Kingdra wasn't related to Seadra xD.

I also thought that Mightyena evolved into Absol....however I still ended up with an Absol, as I only thought that after capturing a wild Absol xD

Oh, I also thought Pikachu, Raichu, Sandshrew and Sandslash were all related, due to their pictures being adjacent to eachother in the Pokémon Annual 2003, and their similar appearances and names..

When studying the pre-release pokemon fro Gen. 3, I thought Shroomish was the evolved form of Forretress. How wrong I was. x)

I always confused Nidoking with Rhydon when I was younger.

I'd always thought the same until I was able to expiriment with a link cable. The pinsir thing is probably because Scyther, its counterpart got an evo that looks nothing like it. I also thought Rayquazza was an alt of Shelgon, I was much younger then of course XD

Those two for me as well lol. I was shocked when I found out Pinser and Herra were not related. Same with Luvdisc and Manembuo. Until I got older and soon learned that usually they just replace a pokemon with similar pokemon in each gen. But Manembuo and Luvdisc was an absolute shocker.

I was genuinely angered when I found out that Luvdisc didn't evolve into Mamanbou. I also lol'd when my brothers first told me about Politoed and thought it was just a rumor. I also thought that Makuhita evolved into Snorlax, and when it evolved, I was like "oh yea, Snorlax.... wait, what?".

When I first got Sapphire, I mixed up the Poochyena and the Houndour lines, and I was mad when I got a Mightyena instead of a Houndoom. Also when I was younger, I thought that Farfetch'd had an evolution, but it turned out it didn't (and still doesn't, for that matter).
