Mega Rayquaza is absolutely retarded in Ubers. I've only used the SD set, but that was enough to make me think this thing is uncompetitive. It's waaaay too easy to set up and waaaay too hard to take out at +2. It gets ExtremeSpeed, V-create, Dragon Ascent (which is ridiculous once Ray gets a SD), a resistance to Electric and a neutrality to Rock, and Outrage, which it can easily spam like an idiot now due to Xerneas's severe drop in popularity.

Not to mention that it has the freedom of holding items, further bolstering its powers to ridiculous levels, unlike other megas. Is Smogon going to consider banning this ****er from Ubers or is the Ubers metagame going to crumble into an even more ****** state?
 
Aaand Pidgeot didn't get Boomburst. They really want us to use lolUproar.

Still, giving 135 Sp.Atk. to a Pokémon to waste it on moves like Uproar kinda makes me sad. Heat Wave is a thing, but he's still stopped cold by Rock Pokémon. He definitely won't see OU usage. I think it's really sad when Megas don't make it to OU, like Ampharos for example.

OU does not need anymore megas--and honestly, compared to the other megas, Mega Pidgeot is subpar in terms of everything. If you're going to use Mega Pidgeot on OU then you're honestly just wasting your mega slot. There are other non-mega Pokemon that can do the job better.

And besides, I think it's good to finally see some more megas on the lower tiers :p

Last I checked, Greninja cannot switch into Mega Mence Return or even Earthquake so switching it in is generally a bad idea.

Oh and here's a reddit thread regarding homepass. It's pretty interesting.

I actually don't mind seeing some Megas below OU, it makes everything even more balanced in my thoughts. But as you said, Rock-types wall it very heavily and it pretty much has to resort to Hidden Power Fighting to get past those. Ampharos is a strong special attacker, but its Speed is mainly why it's not as good as we first thought but Agility can get around the Speed issue.

He's right. Mega Pidgeot doesn't really see any use in OU when a better Flying-type could do its jobs better. I also agree that it's nice to see more lower-tiered Megas, because that way they can still shine against Pokemon it's better suited to deal with.
 
I'm more puzzled with Mega Pidgeot's stat distribution being oriented to Special Attack more than Attack, because most of the early Normal/Flying birds are more focused on physical. Not that I question it, it's a nice change. But yeah, this thing needed Hyper Voice or something else to back it up. But I guess No Guard + Hurricane is kinda nice.

HP Ground is generally better since it allows Mega Pidgeot to break through Heatran.

This guy is very threatening when used on rain teams, as it has the ability to break through Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor/Altaria/Venusaur, Celebi and Amoonguss, which can wall Kabutops and Keldeo fairly easily. It also gets Defog and Tailwind, and can easily spam Hurricane outside of rain.

Hmm interesting point, Heatran also stops its moves cold in their track. Defog and Tailwind also allow for really good support, and given its Speed it can set up those moves fairly quickly.

If you were a Pokémon, what would you prefer to be: a bad Staraptor or something better? :P

All Normal/Flying birds currently (including Braviary) are bad Staraptors. If a Mega Evolution redoes their stat distribution, it greatly benefits them, because they're no longer in the shadow of Staraptor.

Ever since Gust became Special, Pidgeot had a backwards stat distribution. Hurricane made it worse. Unfezant suffers from the same problem, but it does learn Sky Attack which benefits from his Attack stat.

Focus Miss would be an ideal coverage move for Mega Pidgeot, but GF doesn't have an open enough mind. I wish they were more like member Suicune, who gave Swellow Flamethrower, Thunderbolt and Ice Beam in his Expert Emerald hack, along with a hefty stat boost. :P

That would honestly be rather unusual if Pidgeot did get Focus Blast, as that's something that generally the first route birds don't get. But Noivern did (although that thing has arms on its wings), so if it were to ever happen to another bird I wouldn't question it.

I swear, one of these days they're gonna actually get the first route bird right and give it the good Special Attack right off the bat. I hope.

Blastoise and Heracross got weird moves because of their new Megas, so I figured Pidgeot could, too.

I mentioned Focus Miss because it's a great fit, given its coverage and the Pokémon's ability, but he could have other moves, too.
 
In other news, with the release of OR/AS and DexNav mechanics, Adaptability Dragalge is now legal. It may not see much usage in OU, but it's much better than it was in X/Y. Offensive sets just got better:
-Sludge Bomb/Sludge Wave
-Draco Meteor
-Hydro Pump/Scald
-Focus Blast
Nature: Modest
EVs 252 HP/4 Def/252 SAtk
Item: Assault Vest/Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
 
Now there's something we've been clamoring for. Dragalge's Special Attack isn't stellar, but with that ability it should make for something fun to use every now and then. I've called it a slower Tentacruel before, but this might end up getting more offensive usage.

No... No Wallace my friend... I don't think there will be any rain in the battle for the rain badge... None of your pokemon may use their water attacks in fact. This is no longer a water gym.
