    I got a few.

I don't think Penny was well written. to me, personality wise, she's just like gladion, except people around her treat her like she's exceptionally powerful or special for some reason. i could go on and on but i'll stop there.

Nemona is tied up with Hop in terms of how much i like them as rivals ( in that i really don't)

Arven is probably the most compelling and developed character since N.

My hot takes are the same and controversial as always. Let's begin, shall we:

    1. Paradox Pokémon suck booty – Paradox Pokémon are a lazy, uninspired gimmick that simply invalidates the Pokémon that they're based on. Why use Mismagius when you can use Flutter Mane, a cheap knockoff of an actual real Pokémon that predates it in the series? Alright, maybe I shouldn't be too harsh on Flutter Mane because hypocritical me uses her competitively and wins a majority of my games with her, but still, my point still stands. I would rather Mismagius had gotten a buff to become this tough than have Flutter Mane exist.
    2. Tera Raids are broken, sucky trash – I hate Tera Raids. I hate the mechanics, and the whole thing just seems glitchy. I hate how it can take you a long time to be able to attack while the clock is winding down. Also, there have been several times where I have defeated the Pokémon, but it still attacks me, and I end up being blown out of the area.
    3. Convergent species suck – Much like Paradox Pokémon, convergent species, meaning Pokémon such as Todescruel, Wugtrio, and whatnot, are also lazy, uninspired trash. Much like my take on regional forms, they are perhaps the worst thing that is happening to Pokémon right now.
    4. Lack of a National Pokédex – I am not sure if this is a hot take per se, but I really hate how every Pokémon is not available in the game. Because of this, you have limited options when playing competitively. It is crazy how only 39% of all Pokémon were in the game before Pokémon HOME compatibility. We desperately need DLC.
    5. The DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is criminal – As I mentioned in another thread I made a while ago, I believe that everything they are trying to offer in the DLC for extra money should have been basic content. It seems that Game Freak or The Pokémon Company, whichever one is responsible, knows how to get as much money out of you as humanly possible.

Veluza is the worst pokemon in the franchise and I wish it didn't exist.

Personally have always felt, for both this DLC and the DLC for the last games, should have just simply come for free, y'know, as a way to thank the fans for making this the biggest selling franchise or something?

  • Terastal is the least useful gimmick yet. I barely used it all throughout my playthrough, it felt completely unnecessary to use it.

The fire starter might be the only quadrupedal final starter evo from this gen, but it's also the worst of the three.

Nemona is one of the most annoying rivals.

The titans are just worse Totem Pokemon.

The convergent evolution Pokemon were a mistake.

The stake hunt for the ruinous quartet was actually fun, but needed an in-game mechanic to help you find them if you got stuck. I found all but one of them by being thorough, which happened to be in a small area I overlooked.

    ooo i wanna reply...

i actually like paradox pokémon. but i do see your point of it invalidating other types of Pokémon though like Mismagius... i do think Mismagius >>>> Flutter Mane..

i think them making new forms for old Pokémon almost sort or revitalizes them and brings back attention to something otherwise a bit forgotten

[*]Tera Raids are broken, sucky trash – I hate Tera Raids. I hate the mechanics, and the whole thing just seems glitchy. I hate how it can take you a long time to be able to attack while the clock is winding down. Also, there have been several times where I have defeated the Pokémon, but it still attacks me, and I end up being blown out of the area.
agree. it feels so sluggish and unresponsive at times.... but i love the idea of a 4v1 boss Pokémon battle....

[*]Convergent species suck – Much like Paradox Pokémon, convergent species, meaning Pokémon such as Todescruel, Wugtrio, and whatnot, are also lazy, uninspired trash. Much like my take on regional forms, they are perhaps the worst thing that is happening to Pokémon right now.
actual hottake. i like regional forms.

[*]Lack of a National Pokédex – I am not sure if this is a hot take per se, but I really hate how every Pokémon is not available in the game. i think the entire community agrees. there is zero reason why they can't include everybody.

    [/LIST]
i never bought DLC but since i love scarlet and violet so much i'll be buying it this time around. i'll wait before i speak on it.

  • I actually like our 3 main cast of arvel, nemona, and penny. Was actually pretty invested in all of them despite usual mediocre story-telling

Terastal is the second best battle gimmick we have gotten. Outclassed by megas and better than dynamax and z moves

Another region i think were all 3 starters are good in design and use

The worse Legendaries in terms of design. Koraidon and miraidon are ok, but the treasure 4 are awful looking.

I think people are being to quick to berat the DLC when we may be getting 2 more areas of open exploration. I will retract this statement if it ends up being just sword and shield flavor though

  • ^ Your username is my reaction to that statement

I have seen people hope that the DLC brings more legendaries to the table, and I can perfectly understand it, I can see how legendary hunting can be fun for others even if I'm not into that. But for me, I feel like we have too many legendaries in general, and I personally hope that the only new legendaries we get are the mascots for each DLC, whatever new paradox mon is introduced, and whatever mythical is introduced. That is if we do get any of those.

And a post I missed reading at first also reminded me: please make the upcoming DLC as different from the last gen's one as much as possible. For no reason other than to just not be lazy. First step I'm hoping to see is the two new sibling characters NOT being version exclusive characters.

    - Quaquaval is the best Pokémon in the Paldea region.
    - I love tera raids, my only complaint about them is that the animations of the Pokémon attacks take very often too much time. Look for example at Garganacl: when it uses salt cure against the whole team you probably already lost, since it'll take five minutes just for the animation of that move to be complete.
    - I wish they would stop with this regional variant Pokémon introduction as it's boring, overrated and uncreative as hell. Bring me back the mega evolved forms instead. I want my Mega Medicham back as soon as possible.
    - Tulip and Hassel are the best characters in Paldea.
    - I don't really care about Larry.
    - Quaquaval is the best Pokémon in the Paldea region.

The Terastal phenomenom is the best regional gimmick and the only one I'm actually going to miss.

Convergent species was a silly idea. I like the Toedscool line design but it should have been a regional form, not pretending it's a "completely new" Pokémon.

Arven and Director Clavell are easily among the best characters in the entire franchise.

Gholdengo, Koraidon, Miraidon, and Bellibolt's Abilities should get a nerf.

I couldn't care less about the legendaries. Didn't even bother searching for the Ruin stakes. Liked Koraidon/Miraidon and how they're integrated into the gameplay and lore, but... they are not legendaries, they're paradox.

  • Victory Road: The traditional Victory Road was hardly present. After completing the story paths, you just wind through a cave on your lizard to defeat 10-something trainers. You approach the Elite 4 building and challenge the Elite Four in the same room. If you are unlucky, the Elite Four battle music gets stuck in a 5 second loop. The dialogue and atmosphere was cringe, unlike the epic Elite Four experience with Cynthia in generation 4, Iris in generation 5 sequel, etc.

Gimmicks: I echo the above thoughts on the more prominent gimmicks (Tera Raids and Paradox Pokémon), but I completely forgot about this third gimmick: Convergent species. They are knock off versions of the Regional forms. I do like most Regional forms because they breathe new live into older Pokémon, for example Sandshrew and Growlithe. I would have been fine accepting Wiglett as a Regional form of Diglett. I have a shiny Wiglett that I like very much. I just don't want it taking up another Pokédex slot.

Anyway, main gimmick, it's just, some of the Paradox forms are superior to the original Pokémon in every way. For example:
Iron Valiant has 590 base stats
    Gardevoir has 518 base stats
(Mega Gardevoir has 618 base stats)
Flutter Mane has 570 base states
    Mismagius has 495 base stats

They've power crept these Paradox Pokémon, but there is no post-game content to use them at (assuming they won't be banned in battle facilities). Online battles are decent, but many trainers use the same 20-30 Pokémon so battles become stale. Pokémon Emerald and Platinum/HGSS had the Battle Frontier, Black/White had the Battle Subway, Black 2/White 2 had Pokémon World Tournament and Black Tower / White Treehollow, X/Y had Battle Maison, and Sun/Moon had Battle Tree. Galar had some form of the Battle Tower. When are they going to bring back these facilities for offline players to enjoy? For $30 USD maybe?

Lack of post-game content: Besides online battling and running around Area Zero, your options include:
    1. Shiny hunt by squinting at the screen to notice subtle shiny color changes (would it kill them to bring back the shiny jingle and then reduce number of spawns - I don't need 36,000 spawn points in Area Zero).
    2. Participate in buggy/laggy Tera Raids (good luck if your Pokemon is holding Leftovers or if your menu gets frozen for three turns)
    3. Participate in buggy/laggy Union Circles
    4. Hatch eggs by standing around a picnic basket
    5. Explore an empty region that has occasional frame rate drop (I can't explore the water level at all because of Veluza).
    6. Participate in school / Academy tournament
    7. Find swords for legendary quartet
    8. Rematch rivals because you cannot rematch Elite Four
    9. Complete a small Pokédex (I did that 8 months ago)

  • The only thing I Strongly dislike is Roaring moon, I'm not a fan of salamence and I think they made it worse.

Also i'm happy theres a new bug specialist, Favorite character in the region!

I'm not really the kind of person who Looks at all graphics and performance issues, I just play whatever Game pokemon makes. Im a pokemon fan and will stay loyal no matter how bad the games are.

  • The thread name fits, even if this 'rant' isn't exactly related to S/V. (S/V is affected by it though, so it's at least a little relevent 👍)
Pokemon (set your) HOME (on fire) and Pokemon STBANK are absolutlely by far the worst things to exist under the 'brand' of Pokemon. Now made even worse by the fact that anyone who didn't sell there soul to sign Nintendo's absolutely ridiculous contract (whatever the hell that 'accout'? thing needed to download BANK was) AND pay money to some POS 'third party' just to do something that almost (Gen 2 into 3 wasn't possible) every game prior to Gen 6 let you do FOR FREE! No stupid extra BS 'account' (or whatever the **** you'd call it) required. Then add to that the completely ridiculous Dex cut ON THE FIRST MAIN SERIES GAME ON THE SWITCH! WHY!? FOR WHAT (actually good) REASON!? All that means is that anyone who excitedly (not me cause **** ever using a paid version of BANK) paid the (even MORE) money required to transfer all of their Pokemon up to HOME in preperation for the new games, only to find that some (way more than EVER should've been at launch) of their Pokemon are now HOME locked! W.H.Y. Did they not restrict the transfer of Pokemon to only those compatible with the currently released games? And NOW that they can't milk any more money out of the 3DS users, they pack up and move on! Now no one can transfer Pokemon between consoles (who didn't already have BANK) without the use of homebrew software! Nice ****ing job bozos!
