When did your favorite series become your favorite?

Just in terms of number of games I've really enjoyed from a series I think Fire Emblem is probably at the top. As for when it exactly it became my favorite, well, probably after going back and playing some of NES/SNES titles and realizing they still hold up today. Particularly Mystery of the Emblem and Genealogy of the Holy war, two games that rank up there as my all-time favorites. A friend got me into the series back when FE7 first came out, and that game grabbed me like no other at time. Admittedly, I wasn't the biggest fan of Awakening (for some reason I could never really put my finger on what exactly) but really hyped about Fates even if they do look quite similar, lol.

Soon after getting a GBA, I picked up Harvest Moon- Friends of Mineral Town. It was fun and relaxing. I really liked Mineral Town and the characters. Then I played the girl version more when it came out. Now I have most of the hand held Harvest Moon games, and the Rune Factory spin-offs.

Pokemon,Harvest moon,Kingdom Hearts.
Pokemon,because it was always addicting.

Harvest moon,because I'm weird like that.I guess I like farming simulation games,lol?

And Kingdom Hearts, because Square Enix is love,Square Enix is life.

The Kingdom Hearts Series.

Ah, it had to be in 02, I went over to one of my best friend's house. He was playing on his Ps2, he got a new game, When i came into his room I noticed Tarzan, he was in deep jungle. I asked him about it, and he said it was Kingdom Hearts. I asked him about what the game was about (I vaguely remember a commercial or that one Disney type commercial they had on Disney Channel, it was reviewing KH before this was back in 02, I forgot what it was called, i think it was similar to Disney 411. or something like that), He told me it was a game of Disney, with FF characters in it. (this friend got me into FF), so I asked him if i can borrow it, and he let me borrow it for a while, until I got my copy (which was around Christmas time). It became my favorite series, but the moment I got the Japanese Import of Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, it got me EVEN deeper of liking it. But it all started with Kh1! :)

Pokémon... lol.

I feel like Yellow Version was really my first true video game, which technically isn't true since I had a SNES and a Sega Dreamcast, although those were hand-me-downs from my older cousins. Yellow Version on my purple GameBoy Color was my first video game that was truly mine, so that's a factor. It's been the #1 favorite from the beginning.

Other notable mentions include Harvest Moon and to a lesser extent, Kingdom Hearts. Harvest Moon because it's such a relaxing and pleasant game for me, and Kingdom Hearts was the game I got with my PS2 when it came out, so that's nostalgic for me as well. Katamari stands out to me too, it's so unique and quirky and there's no other game like it, it's really an amazing series.

When I was but a wee child, I used to watch my dad play video games on his Sony PlayStation. He rented all kinds of games, from fighters to RPGs to Crash Bandicoot, he played anything that looked good at Blockbuster. So, one day he came home with a rather peculiar title by the name of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. A funny little game about the dark world of slavery and meat processing industrialization. I think this and its sequel sparked my interest in the dark and deranged, later reinforced by the incredible Invader Zim. This game led to an obsession with the franchise, one that I still hold very near and dear to my heart. Seriously, if you've never played an Oddworld game, go get one on Steam, they're super cheap :D

I'll be mentioning Gamepro magazines a lot since many of the games I now know and love were because of Gamepro or any instances were i read an issue of it.

Shin Megami Tensei:
I'm a little late on this one but SMT: Nocturne was the SMT game that got my attention since one of my friends had it.

Final Fantasy (and many many PSone RPGS):
Although our family friend has FF7 and it was the first FF game i saw, I never had the chance to play it since I couldn't find legit copies of it. So when FF8 came out, thats what got me to the whole FF Craze.

Command and Conquer:
Red Alert got my attention. Mammoth Tanks.

Persona:
I never really played or had anyone having P1 or P2 with them so my first persona game was 3. A college friend of mine had P3 on his PS2 and I was amazed at the quality voice acting of the English cast. Also, Yukari... yep he had to be playing on some scenes were the P3 MC was interacting with Yukari and i immediately said - DONE. ATLUS TAKE MY MONEY! Now i got hooked with Persona, so i bought my own copy of P3 from a friend who was already done with it, P4, and now waiting for P5.

Street Fighter and other fighting games
I remember back in the day, I would go to a bowling alley with my mom and some cousins in order to have some fun outside of home. I didn't like bowling so i went to the arcades with the cousins and they had a Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo cabinet and that's what got me, along with Marvel Super Heroes (got me into the Marvel vs Series), Darkstalkers, and Tekken 2. My older cousin was already good at all of those games since he spent a lot of time in arcades and he helped me how to properly handle playing on arcade sticks and poof, Street Fighter became my favorite fighting game for a time.

Guilty Gear
It was years ago when people were too busy playing their PSX console ports of Street Fighter and Tekken, I needed to find a game that I would actually like better than any of those series. So I was reading an issue of Gamepro (i think) and saw this ad for Guilty Gear: The Missing Link aka the first Guilty Gear Game. I was skeptical at first since I didn't like the game's actual graphics based from the screenshots but the artwork and the character designs look way cooler and edgier than SF and Tekken (sorry kiddos, /shotgunsfired). I never found anyone having the game nor a store selling it, so i was sad and unhappy. Then years later, Guilty Gear X would come out and had, for its time and even for today, amazing 2d in-game graphics and i got sold. I saw it first on an issue of Gamepro and i knew i had to play the game. Lucky for me, i found a mall's arcade rink where they had a GGX cabinet and unlucky for those other people who wanted to play this "not tekken or sf game", i kinda wasted them with Sol thanks to that gamepro issue. So yeah, the much better graphics of Guilty Gear X (and the rest of the GG series) helped me establish a love for the said series. I also forgot to mention, Guilty Gear's music is amazing.

Spyro the Dragon:
Remember those good ol days in the PSone where we got Demo discs! Yep, i remember the first Spyro game being part of a demo disc and I immediately fell in love with it. It was a vastly different experience from playing Crash Bandicoot since Crash's gameplay was not the "3d free roaming adventure like Mario 64" that we hoped to be. Ever since playing the Spyro demo on that demo disc, we finally got a copy of Spyro 1 and spent restless nights finishing as many levels and collecting as many gems as we can.

Smash Bros after I literally spent almost months of my life in one year playing the crap out of Super Smash Bros Brawl. The thing it, that wasn't even the best game in the series imo.

The Project Diva series is possibly my most played game in the recent years and possibly of all time. I liked it when I first picked up the 2nd game for the PSP, so much that I actually bought the first game which had a less developed gameplay. It's not the game I'd say is the closest to my heart, changed my life to do its deep story, or even play into my power fantasy. But if I have to pick my most favorite game ever based on gameplay, it's this.

It was kind of difficult to proclaim this game my most favorite because the Mother series changed my life, Pokemon made me grow, Tomba, Klonoa, and others made me appreciate what I have, ICO made me appreciate beauty, Persona well.. let me switch gears for a moment.

Probably, my most favorite game ever would be Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine because it was almost close to what I'd consider a 'Perfect Game'. However, it doesn't exist anymore and because there's no way I could ever play it ever again unless I either learn Japanese or some great miracle happen, I don't think that the Megaten I played will ever be able to come back ever. Even if I managed to learn Japanese somehow, it just won't be the same.

So, Project Diva. Because it's my companion through the good and bad times of my recent years. It doesn't give me much in terms of anything epic, but it is the game I can't leave the house with. It has accompanied me through long haul flights, through long road trips, even everyday bus commutes. I'd play the game before and after happy moments. After I say goodbye to my friends after a great day. When I'm inside a hole and sad, it would cheer me up. I know it's just pressing buttons on the screen that often don't even match the rhythm, but I'm happy in knowing that getting a perfect score on Meltdown on a bumpy bus ride isn't something that most people won't ever get the chance to experience in their lifetime.
