Basically this. I don't see any downsides to it.I think that a tutoring program would be a good idea to draw in new battlers and improve the ones we already have, if we have enough people who are seriously interested in tutoring people. Just don't ask me to tutor people, I'm not good enough to qualify as a tutor.
Trials will be run most likely, I agree on the fact that only someone who has played for a while and knows the metagame well should tutor. There seem to be more people interested in getting tutored to be honest.I think it will have steam to push it at first but will not last long because there are more people willing to be a tutor than willing to be tutored.
Basically the program will be crap, to put it bluntly.

Just because Smogon has shown to run an effective Tutor program doesn't mean we can't do a similar thing on a smaller scale here. It's not about creating a tutor program that rivals Smogon so much as it's trying to create more interest for battling on this forum. As long as the Tutors are chosen well and the people who want to learn actually listen then it should succeed, the mods will likely have to nudge the program along and keep monitoring it.I'd go into a long argument saying why Smogon is better suited to host an apprentice program than PC's current battle server peeps are but I don't want to start a debate here. :P
You're not wrong there--PC's battling community barely has enough people, let alone ones who are considered respectable battlers. However, PC's community is much, much more close-knit than Smogon's and is considered more friendly overall. It's just a matter of choosing the right tutors.I'd go into a long argument saying why Smogon is better suited to host an apprentice program than PC's current battle server peeps are but I don't want to start a debate here. :P
