There are so many great battlers on the server I would really look forward to being tutored by, I am all up for this.

I think it's definitely one way to boost competitive battling enthusiasm. A more formal system to help ease new players into the metagame too might be more welcoming.

I think that a tutoring program would be a good idea to draw in new battlers and improve the ones we already have, if we have enough people who are seriously interested in tutoring people. Just don't ask me to tutor people, I'm not good enough to qualify as a tutor.

Basically this. I don't see any downsides to it.

did sri just say he wants to be tutored? :|

I'm absolutely all for it.

as long as people aren't only interested in randbats lol

yeah sure, i don't see why we shouldn't have a tutor program.

I think the idea is good but the execution has to be there, quite simply this isn't the first time we've attempted the tutor program and the previous trials did not bear any fruit.

I think it will have steam to push it at first but will not last long because there are more people willing to be a tutor than willing to be tutored.

Basically the program will be crap, to put it bluntly.

Trials will be run most likely, I agree on the fact that only someone who has played for a while and knows the metagame well should tutor. There seem to be more people interested in getting tutored to be honest.

I'd go into a long argument saying why Smogon is better suited to host an apprentice program than PC's current battle server peeps are but I don't want to start a debate here. :P

Just because Smogon has shown to run an effective Tutor program doesn't mean we can't do a similar thing on a smaller scale here. It's not about creating a tutor program that rivals Smogon so much as it's trying to create more interest for battling on this forum. As long as the Tutors are chosen well and the people who want to learn actually listen then it should succeed, the mods will likely have to nudge the program along and keep monitoring it.

I'm completely fine with a tutor program. However, I don't think PC has the capacity to hold one-on-one tutoring programs at the moment--especially if there turns out to be a large number of tutees. I suppose we could do a "classroom" method wherein one tutor handles a respectable amount of tutees. Still, that's time consuming on the part of the tutor unless he/she manages to get all the tutees on at once, which is a rather difficult feat by itself.

You're not wrong there--PC's battling community barely has enough people, let alone ones who are considered respectable battlers. However, PC's community is much, much more close-knit than Smogon's and is considered more friendly overall. It's just a matter of choosing the right tutors.

I doubt the program will be a massive hit right off the bat, we'd have to start small. Say 5 tutors (DA, wolf, karp, Anti, Vance) and 5 tutees and have the program run for a duration of time. Then move into another phase and increase the amount of tutors/tutees.

Sure, it would be good for about a week, two weeks maybe, but interest will die down fast after that. You can bet on that happening because if it's effective, people will learn fast and only a few new people will ask every once in a while to be tutored. If it's not effective it will be because horrible time zone conflicts or real life issues will get in the way.

You've got to realize that very few people get into competitive battling because they want to learn how to battle. But a whole lot more get into it just to battle and have fun and they will learn how to battle along the way. The problem is and always will be when people get on and whether anything will be happening when they do get on. A tutoring program isn't going to fix that by itself, and I honestly think it's just going to suffer unless people stick around more.
