    [PokeCommunity.com] Yooka-Laylee

    From the Kickstarter:

Yooka-Laylee is an all-new 3D platformer from the creative talent behind the Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country games. Our new heroes, Yooka (the green bloke with no pants) and Laylee (the wisecracking lady-bat with the big nose) were conceptualised from the ground up for stellar platforming gameplay, created by the same character artist behind the rebooted Donkey Kong family and legendary N64 heroes Banjo and Kazooie.

Using an arsenal of special moves like Yooka's tongue grapple and Laylee's tactical sonar blast, players will explore – and expand – gorgeous 3D worlds drawn up by esteemed environment artist Steven Hurst (Banjo-Kazooie series, Viva Pinata) and through skill discover the plethora of delicious collectibles hidden within.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a sucker for good platformers. The snarky duo formula (in the vein of Banjo Kazooie, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet & Clank) have provided some of my fondest gaming memories. That's why I was stoked when this project appeared on my radar last night. So let's talk about this game, similar games, Laylee's crazy nose, the extremely British devs, or the fact that the Kickstarter is approaching twice the original goal after only an hour and a half.

...if this doesn't come to consoles, I am going to flip a table. I honestly haven't played a platformer that I truly enjoyed without reservation since Banjo-Kazooie, and the game market really needs this kind of thing in my opinion. Something beautifully nostalgic, but also wonderfully fresh. Having Grant Kirkhope as a composer definitely can't hurt either. I have very high expecations for this. VERY high.

I highly doubt they'll hit £1,000,000 - if they do I will be nothing short of astounded - but I hope this is sucessful enough for a PS4 release; I'd snap it up immediately.

Ugh you beat me to the punch, I was going to make a post about this game haha.

Anyways, this game is going to be amazing. Playtonic Games is made up so many Rare employees - including the musical guru Grant Kirkhope and the voice of Banjo & Kazooie himself Chris Sutherland - and the more I read about this game and see gameplay of it, the more I believe this is Banjo Threeie.

Everyone should read the Kickstarter page and fund/buy this game. The game was fully funded in 40 min and is almost at its max stretch goal. I'm extremely excited to say the least.

Seriously listen to this, it's FRIGGIN BANJO KAZOOIE!

It just hit $1,000,000 and it's still going. But there totally isn't any interest in this kind of game anymore, right????

Also, this reminds me that I still haven't played Banjo Kazooie and that I should probably fix that at some point.

...holycrap. 45 days to go and they've almost hit 1 million already. Never underestimate fan demand seems to be a lesson I've learned here, aha. I wonder if they'd release some physical copies (or better yet, a Vita version) if they get enough money...I shudder to imagine how much they'll make by the end of it if they keep this pace up.

It really does feel like a Banjo game, but I'm still excited. I wish we could just get a Banjo-Threeie, but I know it's a lost hope by now. This could be a great filler for that.

This game looks pretty awesome. It's actually not the style I normally play, but this is something that would sway me into a new realm.

It looks fantastic, but I have to raise an eyebrow at how they're even getting away with this. You're a musically-named animal with a winged creature (that's also musically named) on your back that helps you glide, running around collecting things, with a soundtrack that's more than just inspired by Banjo, and even the logo is a blatant copy of the Banjo logo. I know they're the original creators, but Rare/MS own it now and this goes beyond pure "homage" or "spiritual successor" to the point of being a pretty blatant ripoff. It's practically the same game with stand-in characters.

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to play it and I'm really excited for it. I just don't see how they're getting away without being sued.

There are a tyriad of Mario clones on android/iOS that go far beyond this and yet still sell, so I have ko idea why it should be an issue. Sure its a bit close, but no regiwtered IPs are being used without permission, nor is there a patent for the design philosophy of a banjo kazooie game. If the masterminds behind the original want to do something like it again, but cannot because they have no power in gaining back their IP, I feel they can do what they want. Not to mention if they do go far, and MS shuts em down because of their own BK game, the shit storm and bad rep MS will get is gonna be huge. Public image needs to be taken into account, and MS still has huge issues eith puhlic image.

Having missed the craze surrounding Banjo Kazooie, and haven't never played the original games myself, this is something I'd love to try out, even if the gaming landscape has all but left the world of colourful platformers. I have a soft spot for such platformers, okay. </3

The only thing I can think of is if an edition is being made for the Xbox One, the. It must have Phil Spencer's/Microsoft's seal of approval. But you are right, a case could possibly be opened up in the future.

It seems the group that formed Playtonic Games left Rare on really good terms. Even Gavin Price, the head of Playtonic, mentions that he's still in contact with his old colleagues at Rare. It can fall under the grounds of a potential case. But, if the article from The Guardian is anything to go by, it mentions Playtonic seeing that a collaboration between the two companies is very real possibility; it's also the article that mentions that Price still talks to his friends over at Rare. I don't think we'll be seeing any kind of bad blood regarding Rare and Playtonic. Hopefully, anyways.

I bought an N64 for the sole purpose of playing the Banjo Kazooie games, but still haven't actually gotten around to playing them. That said, I'm still excited for this game, since I know the originals are such classics and Banjo Threeie (which this kinda looks like) is another most wanted third installments of a game franchise ever. On top of that, I totally am digging the art style, and that nose just really grows on a guy.

If anything, the fact that the Kickstarter has raised over $2 million wil hopefully tell Microsoft that 3D platformers are very much wanted by gamers. Unfortunately at this E3 Rare is reportedly going to be introducing a new IP, but still this will hopefully convince them to start working on BK3.

Banjo Kazooie with cooler animals? I'll take eight.

Plus, I've heard Jon Jafari (JonTron) is voicing a character. So, yes to this whole thing.
