You can kill me for this, but I truly think DBZ was the best anime ever thought and published. Despite the title of the thread, it's just my opinion, not a fact.

The Dragon Ball series are enjoyable from the beginning to the end of GT, and even Super is really good despite some of its animation problems. They follow the life, growth and intense training of Goku and his friends in a magnificiently good way. Goku is proof that you need to work hard to get stronger and that even when you're a master, you still know you've just begun. Dragon Ball has everything you need: action, adventure, tension, comedy, and even some romance.

Dragon Ball is what inspired so many other series, such as Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, TTGL, InuYasha, and even Sailor Moon and Pokemon to an extent (I mean there's a DBZ reference in Pokemon X and Y iirc). The fact that DBZ is one of the very few anime that managed to survive for 32 years (!!!) and still be popular should say something.

    Do you agree?

Yeah, Dragon Ball was much more enjoyable, and that's not even close to being the best anime ever made, so DBZ is obviously even further away still.

I liked the suspense of not knowing who was going to win in Dragonball a lot more; the power levels thing kinda made it obvious who was going to succeed from the offset, and it undermined a lot of characters in the series. I liked the power-ups and villains (well, some of them - I'll never forgive them for that awful Garlic Jr. arc) but it felt a lot more formulaic and repetetive as the series wore on.

I still need to watch the movies somewhen. Well, most of them.

Let's not get too mean now.

People who tend to have a heavy bias toward action plots would probably like DBZ better. People who have a heavier bias toward comedy or character building and don't like filler that's 10 episodes of yelling to power up for an attack (mild exaggeration) would find Dragon Ball to be the better section of the series. Personally, I fall on the Dragon Ball is better.

Though neither is really best ever material despite being good fun.

I personally don't like Dragon Ball Z. My biggest issue with it is that I personally find it boring. It's filled with too many filler episodes that add nothing if you ask me. I also love action, but DBZ has too much action for me to the point where I get bored and want to see something else than action, and when I finally see something that isn't action it feels like an eternity to get passed it. I can see why people love DBZ, but I just don't like it. I want to like DBZ, but I can't.

Don't quite consider it the "best" per se but I do understand the importance it has had over the years. It has influenced a whole breed of shounen anime and helped popularize anime in the west. And has continued to stay somewhat relevant even twenty years or so after the series has concluded (the manga concluded with the last volume in 1995).

You have to give credit where it is due. People can sit down the entire day and critically analyze the hell out of each and every aspect of this franchise but that doesn't change a thing - this anime holds a special importance in the history of anime and its influence is undeniable. I personally LOVED it till the Frieza arc. And back when I was still a young 'un, I didn't care about silly things like story or character development. All that mattered to me was that Goku was a badass and was kicking villains in the balls. And being cool as hell while at it.

I can't say I can even watch the series now. I don't think I'll be able to stand the pacing at all, tbh. Nor the repetitive fight animations. So yes, not really the "best" anime since it has a LOT of flaws but, taking other aspects into consideration, definitely one of the most important anime in general.

What Derozio said is true also let's don't forget that Dragonball generally was a basis for the creation of many animes it may seem bad today but back then it was one of the best (if not the best) hands down for it's time with all those action, fight scenes plus i don't think i'm the only one who screamed at school KAMEHAMEHA! hahaha!

FACT: This user has never actually touched the Dragon Ball franchise.

Sure it is one of the most influential anime of all time, but it's not the best anime of all time. As much as I was a kid that prefer action and sports anime back then, the action instead was the one that turned me off. And from the brief glimpses I got from DBZ, it's too flashy and explosive alright.

I gave it a chance already tho. I still don't like it.
