    INTRODUCTION

    Hello and welcome to the World of Pokémon!

    My name is Sonia and I'm what's known as a Pokémon Professor, a researcher who studies the nature of the fantastical creatures known as Pokémon. I hail from a region known as Galar, an up and coming, industrious country focussed on industry, technology and natural conservation... and recently I've been teaching at the region's newly opened trainer school, situated in the town of Wedgehurst.

    But... lookin' at the way you're lookin' at me, I'm getting the feeling this isn't your first rodeo? Then I'll go ahead and cut straight to the chase!

    You've been studying at the very same trainer school I mentioned earlier, the school at Wedgehurst accepts everyone from ages 13 and up... and assuming you succeed in the 2 year course they offer? You get yourself an ATC (that's an advanced trainer card by the by). These handy little tools are cutting edge, acting as a credit card for your income, your personal ID as a pokémon trainer and more! Not that I need to tell you that right?

    After all you're a part of the graduating class!

    With the ceremony just finished, the way forward open and the region of Galar waiting, it's a perfect time to start a journey across the Galar Region. The gym challenge has just started and from this year forward, all trainers with a registered ATC are considered sponsored by the school to take part. If that wasn't enough, the first ever Galar grand festival is to be held in tandem, with contest halls springing up around the country.

    It's the dawn of a new day, in a new world, with new experiences to be had. The titles of Champion and Contest Monarch are waiting to be claimed... and who knows what other paths you'll follow along the way? Take your first step, newly certified trainer, on the road to your own aspirations!

    Starter Pokémon

    In the world of Spear, trainers can select most any species of pokémon in the world to serve as their starter pokémon, aside from a handful of restrictions. Those restrictions being that the pokémon you choose must have three stages of evolution and must begin the RP at stage 1. i.e. Completely unevolved.

    THE Z-VERSE

    Welcome to all and welcome back to those returning, to the 2nd official project set in the "Z-Verse".

    What is the Z-Verse? It's a different take on the world of pokémon, integrating the setting we all known and love with more hard hitting and realistic themes. The goal is to combine pokémon with the modern world, allowing the darker and more gritty aspects of reality to settle in and mingle with those of Pokémon while, most importantly, maintaining the spirit of the games. We want to create an experience and world where harsher and harder topics can be confronted in the narrative... without diminishing the joy and excitement that the world of pokémon can bring.

    It's an RP and writing experience that focusses heavily on character relations, interactions, personal plotlines and real, realized development... all the while being held on the track of an overarching narrative that takes and builds upon the established ideas of the pokémon world.

    The World of Galar in the Z-verse is affected by all of this in ways you might expect. It maintains the image and feel of the recent games, but the political corruption is more readily apparent and more realistically represented and addressed. The RP will officially be taking place 2 years after the events of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield and major plot points of the story will revolve around how the Region of Galar is addressing and combatting the issues that were presented by a reliance on Dynamaxing and Chairman Rose.

    On a final note, the events that occurred in "Z", Spear's predecessor and the RP that lead to the concept of the Z-verse as a whole, occured 15 years prior to the beginning of this story. All posts and story that occurred in Z are considered canon, with the climax of Team Cinder's plans in that RP being referred to by the world in character as "The Z-Incident". More information about Z and its aftermath will be available on the discord, though newcomers needn't worry as it's unlikely to be overly relevant to the main plot of Pokémon Spear.

    With that said thank you all, those returning and those newly joining, for coming along for Pokémon Spear! I look forward to a new adventure in a new region, together!

    How does a Z-Verse RP work?

    Stages and Arcs:
    Every new area visited over the course of the RP will consist of one Stage of the RP. There will be up to three Stages in one Act of the RP. Stages will be fairly short, not taking up more than one or two posts per character though this can vary depending on the location. The final Stage in an Arc will always be longer and feature major story development. Generally, one Stage of the RP will last for Two Weeks in real time before the start of the next Stage.

    JP's are accepted! But don't waste time!:
    Many an RP has died a horrible and mournful death to the evils of unfinished JPs and people dropping off the face of the planet. We love to see more in-depth dialogue and character interaction but remember it doesn't need to be a novella. Keep progress going and don't fall behind for the sake of your fellow players and yourself. This RP will try to wait for you, but it won't stop because you drag behind. There's nothing wrong with filling the IC with interaction posts between two or more characters, it adds pages, confidence and content to the RP and that goes a long way to making things feel like they're really progressing.

    Regarding the Mons:
    You may catch one pokémon per stage if Wild pokémon are present. With the introduction of every new stage, wild pokémon will be provided in a list should they be available. Pokémon not native to Galar in the games will be appearing as well. So don't worry about limitations! You needn't ask for GM approval for catching a mon so long as you have a good post attached to it and it's the only pokemon you've attempted to catch on said Stage. Their are no such thing as levels in this RP for your pokémon, you choose when your pokémon learn new moves as per the story. But do try to keep it semi-realistic, no stage three pokemon with hyper beam by Act 2 or you're going to get asked to slow down a little bit and potentially be forced to retcon.

    Time and Place:
    All of the events that took place in Sword and Shield are canon. The story takes places roughly two years after the incident involving Chairman Rose and Eternatus... for the sake of the plot. Hop and Sword/Shield protagonist (a mysterious figure rarely mentioned) used the powers of the legendary wolves to defeat Eternatus, the only difference being that Leon maintained his position as Champion. This story will focus heavily on the aftermath of those events and how the Galar region has progressed since then. Players start out in the town of Wedgehurst, where they having been studying in trainer school since the ending of Sw/Sh (i.e. for two years), they are only now graduating from trainer school and are set to go on their own adventure after just receiving their starter pokémon and ATC from the recently appointed Professor Sonia.

    RULES

    1. Show some respect to the other players. Do not use their characters or anything of the sort, without their consent.

    2. This RP has an M rating. Meaning that romance, violence, swearing and even minimal gore and adult themes are allowed. These principles are encouraged but do not overuse them, or push too far in your writing, this RP has a more mature tone to certain aspects of the story but don't abuse that creative freedom.

    3. Pokémon evolution is one of the few things that must be checked for approval with the GMs. PM the GMs here on PC or message one of them on Discord first before making your pokémon evolve.

    4. No duplicate starters will be allowed, so if you want a specific pokémon to be your starter mention it in the OOC thread before making your SU to avoid people getting their hopes up. Do be aware that nothing is stopping someone from competing against you for that pokémon regardless.

    5: Obey all the regular rules of the RP section, as well as all general rules of The Pokécommunity forum as a whole.

    6: Pokémon moves can be learned, but not too frequently... and they must adhere to the pokémons natural moveset unless you acquire a TM in character.

    Name: You know what to do here.

    Age: 15-25 years of age. A little older than the average, but everybody playing ten-year-olds would be boring.

    Gender: Self Explanatory.

    Hometown: Where in the pokémon World are you from? Your character doesn't need to be from Galar specifically. Just remember you live in Wedgehurst.

    Physical Appearance: Your characters looks and fashion sense. A picture is nice and will do fine for this section, but including a written appearance as well will get you brownie points.

    Strengths: What is your character good at? What good qualities do they have? At least two with at least a short paragraph describing each, minimum.

    Weaknesses: What is your character bad at? What are their flaws? Read Strengths for specifics n what is required here.

    Aspirations: What are your characters goals, biggest dream or in general their reason for starting their journey? A decently sized paragraph is ideal here.

    Rival: Who's your character's rival? Do they have one at all? Co-ordinate with another player here... or make a brand new NPC! Leaving this space blank is also an applicable option.

    Starter Pokémon and Nickname: What starter did your character receive from Professor Sonia? Or did they have their starter beforehand? What nickname did your character give their starter, if any?

    Starters Gender: Self Explanatory.

    Starters Moveset: What's your starters current move set? Read back in the thread for information about available moves for pokémon. You may take a single egg move should you wish. Pokémon in Spear can know a total of 6 moves.

    Hometown: Sandgem Town, Sinnoh

    Physical Appearance:
    Her stature is about average in both height and weight, if leaning a bit to the skinny side. She has about shoulder length, slightly wavy hair that frizzes up when it's damp, but otherwise cooperates relatively well - though her cut is still such that it's as low maintenance as possible. She has hazel eyes, but because she doesn't bother with make-up at all either, she doesn't think they're particularly striking.

    Clothing-wise, she loves to dress in comfortable clothes. In summer, this results in a T-shirt tucked into a high-waisted long skirt to give herself something of a waistline, paired with the white sneakers she bought with her mom. Then in winter, she adores wide comfortable sweaters with skinny jeans and black laced boots underneath. Preferred colours are muted, earthy tones and pastels.

    Strengths:
    LEARNING CURVE: Despite how much she feels like she's struggling at times, she actually has the ability to learn and pick up new skills and practices relatively easily. She's particularly good at pattern recognition, logical reasoning, and memorisation. Prerequisite being that whatever she's learning can hold her attention, however.

    CREATIVE: Perhaps owing to her tendency to daydream, she can come up with the wildest ideas and theories, and approach things from completely new angles. So many ideas float around in her head, if only the right opportunity came around to put them into practice. Even things she believes she could never apply to herself, she'll excitedly share with others - and then get embarrassed for suggesting them.

    UNDERSTANDING: The adage "do unto others as you would have done unto yourself", has stuck in her mind from a young age. She thinks ultimately, we're all but humans and Pokémon, and that means nobody wants to be treated badly. Everyone has a spark inside of them; some just need some help to bring it out. It's easy for her to imagine herself in someone else's shoes, be they human or Pokémon, and this benefits her in several ways: it lets her empathize with those in need, but also lets her see through others' ploys, once she realises what other interests they may have at heart.

    Weaknesses:
    TIMID: Her biggest hurdle is, perhaps unsurprisingly, something many people her age deal with. Insecurity about her ability, be it academical, practical, or even social, has piled on from all the times she "messed up" in the past. She's hard on herself, so even if she tries something for the first time; if it doesn't go well, it counts as a failure in her mind and she won't soon try it again. Similarly, she easily gets the feeling other people dislike her if they aren't outright enthusiastic in interacting with her, causing her to give up on new relationships before they've even had a chance to develop.

    FLIGHTY: Being easily distracted makes it difficult to focus on tasks and goals. These problems with "attention allocation", as she rationalizes it, make her come off as disinterested and careless when she loses track of her belongings, her assignments, or even a conversation. But it works the other way as well. If something new grabs her interest, she can get into it so deeply she loses sight of the world around her, potentially forgetting to eat or sleep.

    Aspirations: She's going on this journey primarily because well, her brother did it, her peers are doing it, and even her little sister kept bugging her about it. Certainly, she'll give the gym challenge her all, but she doesn't have the illusion she could actually make it to the League, much less become champion. For now, this journey is about survival, and not falling behind.

    Hometown:
    Raphael was born to his Mother and Father in Shalour City twenty years ago. With his father leaving when he was but two years old, he grew up with only his mother. Due to the tragedies that occurred in Shalour City during the "Z Incident", when Raphael was five years old, he and his mother moved to Wedgehurst in Galar, having lost their homes and sense of safety in Kalos during the ensuing tragedies.

    Physical Appearance:
    A young man who cares about his aesthetic, Raph has a certain look he likes and he works to maintain it. His black hair is let fall loose, but its length is maintained meticulously. His clothes are all black, but textured to stand out from one another... and of course, he wears the signature fingerless gloves of a pokémon trainer. At a glance, Raph's personality is not betrayed by his appearance, he looks the part of a perfect league challenger.

    Even in terms of physicality, it's at an odd disputation with the way he behaves. One as lethargic as he would be assumed to be weighty, sluggish and unkempt, but Raph couldn't be farther from this. The young man is in excellent physical condition, toned and standing a cool 6 foot even in height. His arms are bulky and his legs are well used, perhaps he played sports in his younger years? Has a secret training routine despite his lazy attitude? The exact answer is known only to him it seems.

    The most striking feature about Raph, as many will tell you, are his eyes. Pure, ice blue crystals that are soft, yet piercing. As a young boy especially, he was often complimented on them. He's especially fond of how recently, his chin and jawline have filled out to compliment them and make him look less "boyish". He might even be considered handsome, did he not always have some combination of lazy eyes and a shit eating grin or scowl.

    Strengths:
    - Tactician:
    Raph has lived most of his life in relative peace, yet a time in his youth that nearly cost him everything has inspired him to take on the mindset of a survivalist. Devilishly intelligent and mindfully motivated in a way most people don't assume, he applies himself in battles and other intense situations by staying three steps ahead of his opponents. Skilled in making use of the battlefield itself, basic battle know how, underhanded tactics and positional control, Raph wins battles by utilizing the unorthodox in tandem with his teams well honed skills. A factor that can contribute to his laziness occasionally, as it often lets him sneak his way around the power difference others gain via diligent training. If Raph applied himself and worked as hard as others, he'd truly be a force to be reckoned with... shame that.

    - Poker Faced:
    Raph is almost always calm and carefree at a glance, a lazy lad that lets life float him along. Don't get him wrong, that is the person he is, though it's a state of mind that's incredibly difficult to change or alter in him. Despite the situation or stresses around him, Raph will rarely lose his cool. He'll keep that calm smile and glinting gaze even when it seems the whole room is turned against him... skills in deception and persuasion come as an added bonus of this ability. Still at times this trait comes down to a facade, Raph is not unfeeling or unfettered by the actions of others, he's simply very skilled at pretending not to care. Like every fortress however, there are weaknesses to exploit... and there are a few key buttons that one can push to knock away Raph's calm demeanor and drag out a killer temper.

    - Physically Fit:
    Somehow despite most conceptions, Raphael is in very good shape. He has good stamina, well trained muscles, a good deal of physical strength and a greater boon of celerity. In times of trouble he can hold himself well in a fight, a skill he took to training from the young age of five following the complications surrounding that period of his life. He's fully trained in a form of Johtoan martial arts and not too shabby when it comes to sucker punches and quick scraps as well. Woe the person who comes at Raph thinking he's all talk. Still, despite his fitness, Raph prefers to take it easy all the same... one is very unlikely to see him make use of his physical training unless the situation is truly dire.

    - Tech Savvy:
    Technology is easy to fiddle with from the comfort of your own home or a nice, comfy chair. Raph has really taken to it for this reason... though even his lazy bones can't deny he feels a strong affinity for it all the same. Raph loves to tinker and fiddle with machines and computers, a little bit of programming here, some neat engineering there. The world he lives in is full of opportunities to throw together some interesting inventions and a part of him really wants to push those boundaries. It's one of the few things in this world that Raph will actually regularly put some effort into.

    Weaknesses:

    - Lethargy:
    Raphael is incredibly lazy. If he were writing this as a self description in fact, the previous sentence is all you'd get out of him. He likes to take his time to do everything, resting on his laurels and breathing in the world around him when really, there's work that should be getting done. A good nap can be just as worth it as a good experience in his book and if it weren't for the circumstances of his life making a career as a trainer a necessity for him, he might never have even left his house. Despite his intelligence he barely passed Trainer School by doing the absolute bare minimum to obtain his ATC. It's a mystery for the ages as to how he stays so well in shape. His potential as he is, is unfulfilled... and if he stopped procrastinating as much as he does he might reach his goals a lot quicker than it looks like he's going to.

    - Temperamental:
    While difficult, it's possible to push and probe Raph's buttons and hit him in his emotional weak spots with the right knowledge. When hit where it metaphorically hurts in this case, Raph's calm demeanor breaks and his usual smirk contorts into a scowl. He becomes aggressive, emotional and in some cases, physically violent if pushed too far. On one or two occasions he's gotten in trouble for going too far and seriously hurting himself or someone else because he can't control his temper. It doesn't take long for him to cool down thankfully, but when he does he finds himself full of regret and frustration for his inability to control himself, like a little dark part in him is always full of anger and hate, just waiting to break free. Raphael hates that part of himself with a passion.

    - Pre-Existing Heart Condition:
    From birth, Raphael has suffered with a severe defect in his heart. At times of great stress, physical or in extreme cases mental, Raph's heart rate will skyrocket and he may suffer a minor attack or worse. On one specific occasion in his youth, he went into cardiac arrest, but was saved at the last moments in his mothers arms by a mysterious blonde haired doctor. He carries medication on his person at all times to help combat the problem, yet if hit by a severe attack he may be unable to administer the drugs to himself. His mother worries and warns him to be careful, making friends to travel with on his pokémon journey... but a lack of self concern and a more than anti-social attitude on his part puts him at serious risk if the circumstances are right.

    Aspirations:
    Raphael's only goal is to get through life, one war or the other, at his own pace. In order to facilitate that goal, he must become a talented trainer in some regard. Gym battles, contests, or some other path that might open up before him, Raph will try them all in pursuit of his ultimate goal; success. Yet with his lazy personality and carefree attitude the goal of simply succeeding for whatever reasons he keeps may prove more difficult than it first appears... but hey! At least he graduated from trainer school! In his mind, it's best to take baby steps, especially at the start of a new chapter.

    Rival:
    Rivals are tiring and Raph couldn't be bothered to consider anyone for the title. Still, his attitude and general manner of speaking can really grate on the nerves of some of the people he meets, classmates included and in particular... so maybe he's already someone's rival and simply hasn't realized it? (Open to change this if another PC is interested in having Raphael as their rival.)

    "Absolutely not."

    The words were pushed through parsed lips, accompanied by disbelieving eyes. The woman, mid forties, absent-mindedly slammed her hand down onto the small kitchenette counter beside her. Her white knuckles unfurled and resting over the documents. Mortgage loan repayments, electricity, water, a shopping receipt... medical bills.

    "I somehow knew you'd make this difficult for me..." There's a tired tone that returns the aggressive response, words dripping with a false sort of joviality. The young mans eyes are closed and his lips are pursed in a sad smile, despite his expression his brow is creased... and his mind in distress. She would never understand. "I'm sorry... it's a lot of effort to argue this you know? You know I don't like wasting time with that sort of stuff if it isn't necessary. I'm a grown man, you aren't able to stop me, legally or otherwise." The eyes slowly open, their expression a mix of mirth and severe regret. He didn't want to speak like this to her, not because it was tiring, but because it hurt. "I'm going."

    "-Could! Could you just for once stop being so selfish?" Her words are strained and her eyes are wet now. "I let that woman take you into that school because I wanted you to make friends... but you didn't, you barely even went!..." She trails off as he shakes his head.

    "But I passed, everything, like I said I would." From his wallet the young man produces a small silvery card. "This... is the only permission I need to-"

    "To do what you've planned from the start?" She interjects again, his brow becomes more furrowed, his smile breaking into a wobbly line. She knows what this is doing to him, he knows it too, but he also knows she won't stop. "What if you never come back? What if you walk out that door and I never see you again, what if you make a choice for yourself that comes with a price for the people you're supposed to love? I could..." Her words continue to drone on in his ears, he can barely hear what she's saying anymore, his teeth are clenching and his heart is hurting, in more ways than one. Her voice continues incessantly nagging in his ear, pushing, pushing, pushing him over the edge until...

    "I'm not Dad!"

    The outburst causes a sudden, somber quiet in the room. The first tears slowly start to fall from her eyes as she looks on in shock. The young man in front of her is hunched slightly, his jaw tight, eyes focused on the floor. Tears are falling from his eyes now too, lightly splashing on the ground. "I'm not doing this to leave you... I'm doing this so I can stay. If you can't accept that then you'll just have to wait and see, wait for the moment I turn out to be right." He wipes the wet droplets from his face and turns away slowly, walking towards the front door of their small home on the edge of Wedgehurst.

    His hand grips the handle as he tries to stow away his feelings, but the chocked sob he hears from just behind him gives him pause. "R-Raph..."

    As Raphael turns, his mother wraps her arms around him and holds him so tight he might just break... yet as he returns the gesture he realizes now, as a man rather than a boy, how much more fragile than him she is in that moment. He just holds her quietly, her cries are a voice he can't find the words to answer.

    She tells him she's sorry. He tells her he knows.

    The light of the morning sun shines down onto Raphael as the memory fades away, he glances down into the palm of his hand. Clenched there is a red sphere, halved in white, containing another life. A pokémon. His pokémon. It gave him a moment of pause, to wonder and doubt. Was this... really the right thing to do?

    Yet as the golden rays brush his cheek he sighs and tosses the orb once in his hand. He let those thoughts fade away in that moment, as they were useless to him now, no benefit gained from dwelling when he was already walking this path.

    "..." He waits a moment in silence, before giving a small smirk. "Man... this, is already exhausting."

    Name: Pia McGuire
    Age: 18
    Gender: Female
    Hometown: Pia was born in Hammerlocke to her mother with no father in sight. They moved to Wedgehurst so that Pia could study at the trainer school.

    Physical Appearance: Pia at first glance appears to be on the beautiful side of womanhood thanks to the efforts she has taken in keeping her appearance fresh and clean. Having short wavy, platinum blonde hair and emerald coloured eyes has always been one of Pia's best features, giving her the innocent look that she's trying to achieve to keep her reputation up. She has quite a good fashion sense but not the kind of wallet to achieve it so instead of wearing designer clothes, she wears cheaper versions of them and makes it work. Her usual attire are light blue jeans with white sneakers or heels depending on the weather and a pastel pink coloured shirt. The only thing that might seem out of place for her might be her piercings in her ear although she took those because her favourite actress has them too.

    Pia is rather short, only reaching the height of 5'4 but has the perfect body build for a model. She achieves this by starving herself a bit too often though.




    Strengths:
    Clever: Pia is really clever despite her appearance but plays dumb for most of the time. She does this to cover up her manipulative nature that she's all too aware off. This doesn't mean that she's all knowing but instead means that she's able to figure out solutions for certain situations that she's caught in or talk her way up while keeping her "dumbness" up.

    Goal Oriented: Once Pia has a goal in mind, she doesn't stray from this path. She might decide to go a different way of achieving it but she refuses to give up on her goal and doesn't let anyone get in the way of it.

    Kind (somewhere in her little pinky toe): Although pia doesn't have a lot of good qualities, she does have a soft spot for people who had it bad and tend to be a more kind to them then she would be to others. Her bossy and sarcastic nature won't often reach them and she tries not to bring up anything painful at all times.

    Weaknesses:
    Paranoid: Pia is paranoid to the point it sometimes unhealthy to herself. She overthinks situations a lot and does everything to make sure her secrets doesn't spill to anyone. That includes not telling anyone a lot about herself and being unable to make meaningful friend- and relationships in fear they will betray her and spill her secrets.

    Depressed: Despite looking over-confident in herself and seeming like she can take on the world, Pia is dealing with a depression. No one ever believed in her and it caused her to have very low expectations of herself beside trying to become rich. It's the reason why she became so sarcastic and sassy. No one cares about her so they don't care about her attitude either, right? ...... right?

    Temper: Pia has quite the temper. When someone gets on her nerves or does something she despises she's quick to get angry and snarky. This happens especially quick when someone is looking down on her or speaking of her in an ill manner. This is because her short temper is a coping mechanism for her depression.     Materialistic: Pia is extremely materialistic. She doesn't like spending her money and tries to get her hands on anything that may seem of value. This means she might have stolen items in the past but no one really knows. She also chooses her "friends" based on how much money they have although she doesn't judge those that are poor. They're just not very worthwhile.

    Aspirations: Pia has a clear objective in mind: Becoming as rich as she possibly can within a short time. Having lived the life of poverty, the dreaming girl wishes of nothing more than to become rich and famous along the way. She tries anything to achieve this goal and while her main objective currently is becoming an actress, she has laid her eyes on contesting in hopes that this will gain her a stairway to fame. She's also searching for a rich and handsome husband in the back of her mind as to not end up like her mother did.

    Rival: Pia sees anyone who stands between her and her goal as a rival. The same goes for people that are hitting on someone she sees value in.

    Aeliana stands at a height of 5'7", sporting a slender body build that's toned with lean muscle. As one might expect from her Alolan heritage, she carries a dark-skin complexion. Aeliana likes to keep her hair on the short side, often letting it only reach down to the base of neckline with bangs sweeping across her forehead. Although her hair is naturally black in color, she likes to dye it a bright and vibrant color. Most notably, it is usually pink in hue. Her eyes are violet in color, almost looking like a faded purple when in the correct light. Oddly enough, Aeliana sports a faded out, rather crudely drawn skull marking on the back of her left shoulder. It was at one point a bright, neon-purple, but the passage of time has left it resembling her eye color. The young woman doesn't go out of her way to hide the marking, but she doesn't give many details about it either.

    In terms of clothing, Aeliana likes to dress on the casual side. Sneakers or boots are her preferred footwear, denim jeans or shorts on her legs, along with various tank tops and tee-shirts that she wears on most occasions. A woman confident with her body, the Alolan has no problem with wearing outfits that show off her curves and body. She likes to dress light, both to make sure that her clothing won't hinder her movements should she decide to engage in some spontaneous dance practice or simply to not feel constricted while traveling. No matter what she chooses to wear, Aeliana is never seen without her golden, wing-shaped necklace. It was a gift from her cousin that she received before leaving for Galar to live with her grandparents and serves as a reminder of the time they spent together. When traveling, Aeliana keeps all of her trainer supplies in a dark red backpack.​

    Aeliana's dream is to become a world-class dancer and train up a team of Pokémon to do the same. In a world where she constantly feels judged for her past mistakes, she yearns to prove to everyone that despite whatever mistakes she made in her teenaged years that she isn't someone who should constantly be judged by them as well. Of course, she knows that to do this she needs to not only practice dance but show everyone she is of sharp mind and skilled body, which is why she has also decided to try her hand at this year's Pokémon League.​

    • Physical Strength - With a keen interest in dancing and forming a team around becoming a professional dancer, Aeliana has trained herself to have significant body strength and durability. Her body is toned with lean muscle, and she is very flexible, to the point where she is capable of holding various stretches and uncomfortable positions for a decent amount of time. Aeliana enjoys lengthy stints of physical activity, often hating to be sitting or doing nothing for long amounts of time.

    • Sympathetic - Aeliana takes great care and interests in the plights of others. She is always willing to lend and ear or a shoulder should one be needed.

    • Optimistic - Aeliana is a person who always sees the glass as half full. She manges to see a silver lining, despite however dark the clouds overhead are and always makes sure that she has a kind word or uplifting thought to help those around her who may not be feeling their very best. Aeliana believes that no matter what struggles one might find themselves in, all it takes is a positive attitude and they will eventually manage to overcome it.

    • Sarcastic/Jokester - Aeliana seems to always have some kind of humours quip or remark to make in mind. At times it can be difficult and somewhat off-putting, as the young woman can sometimes carry them too far or make it seem like she's not taking something as seriously as she should be. There are times the that she has been known to carry her jokes or remarks too far, which can at times result in making situations worse than they already are.

    • Nosy - Aeliana can come off as a bit nosy at points. While she doesn't like to pry, the woman seems to have trouble distinguishing when people would rather keep their troubles or thoughts to themselves.

    • Stubborn - Once Aeliana has set her mind to something, it is very unlikely that she will change her mind. While she isn't one to fall out into a full-blown argument over something trivial, it is not uncommon for the girl to become very passionate about her stance or belief in something. As a result, she is known to push herself to see her goals or thoughts through to the very end, often to the point of outright exhaustion.

    Tristan stands at 5'8" with blonde hair and greyish blue eyes, all from his mother.

    Most, if not all of his clothes are always designer and easily worth an average person's monthly spendings. He likes to keep things aesthetic though, sticking to a simple red, blue, and brown color scheme.

    He also has a routine created by his personal trainer that keeps him relatively fit, a small blessing and likely the reason for these subtly toned muscles that gained him a nice amount of followers on social media. The gymfies also come with a skincare routine to die for, you'd think he's actually a model.... if it weren't for the perpetually bored or annoyed look plastered on his face.


    Strengths:
    + Analytical
    Tristan has done his research. Given a Pokemon, he is usually able to use them to their potential and dominate in battle. He likes to theorycraft various ways of skirmish and tactics as well as simulate these runs in his mind. He also reviews other people's battles and improves on these.

    Tristan likes to gather all the information he can before making any big (or even small) decisions. No matter how simple the problem is, he strives to get the best possible output and see all the reasons behind it.

    + Confident
    "Everyone is wrong. The only person right is me." has always been true for Tristan. On good days, he's cocky and arrogant and there's good reason for it-- maybe he won, maybe he's just right. On bad days, this trait helps the guy out of embarrassing situations. He's quick to make excuses for failure and with his general attitude, people easily believe him.

    Fake it until you make it is a motto he sticks to, to this day.

    + Jerk
    Being a jerk does have it's benefits. Tristan is, undeniably, a jerk. Optimists say he's utilitarian. He does things for his self-interest, and only moves when he knows he's getting something in return. Tristan does not consider the interests of other people in his decisions, and he's okay with that.

    He's very frank about this.


    Weaknesses:
    - Detached
    It's not because of any awkward social tendencies or something, Tristan simply does not value friendships if there's nothing to be gained from them. Due to this, he tends to not make much effort in being "nice" to people or Pokemon, and people would generally think of him as a rude loner or something.

    The most connection he would have would be his business partners from his mother's business that he is required to talk to. Even then it's all business, strictly professional, no karaoke after work. It is what it is.

    - Stubborn
    Tristan's tunnel vision is understandably difficult to handle. His confidence only pushes this idea that his vision is right and anything that tries to break this is absolutely wrong and shouldn't be listened to. If Tristan has something in his mind, he will never yield to objections, or even agree to compromise.

    - Jerk
    To be a jerk is to see the world through goggles that dim other's humanity. Tristan is exactly this. This is most obvious in how Tristan views Pokemon-- tools to use for battle, easily replaceable and quickly manipulated. He's surrounded by fools who think Pokemon are "friends", who don't maximize their output, who thinks bugs are viable in the meta, and many more.

    It's just because he matters himself more than he matters you. Nothing personal.


    Aspirations:
    Tristan has a simple goal: to make the best team, because everyone (including--especially? the champion) have been making subpar teams so far.

    Simply put, the best team has to have expertise in the following stats: HP, ATK, SP ATK, SP DEF, DEF, SPD-- as well as able to cover most, if not all types. The best team has to be able to fight every other possible team and win. Anyone else that says different is wrong, and he can prove it with a fight.

    That said, he still has to collect these Pokemon to make the best team ever. And he has to prove that it's the best team ever. And how can he prove this?

    Appearance: Catherine's appearance can in many ways be summed up as average. She has a fairly ordinary, height of 5'6" with a build that is middling but leaning more to the thin side, although she is not very athletic and this is readily apparent. Catherine is Caucasian with a pallid, sometimes a tad sickly-looking, complexion born of spending as little time out and about as she is capable of. Her black hair is often a bit unkempt and is worn with long bangs at the front, although none of her hair reaches past her neck. She has blue eyes which are permanently set in an expression part-way between sleepiness and scowling.

    Standard clothing for Catherin is a baggy long-sleeved shirt or jumper, usually in a softer colour, generally worn with simple leggings or jeans. She dresses modestly, preferring not to make an unnecessary show of herself and is almost never seen donning anything that couldn't be considered extremely casual attire. She does not wear jewellery but, out of necessity more than style, does wear a simple pair of glasses.

    Strengths:
    - Intelligent: Catherine has always been gifted with a keen mind. She has a good intuition and a knack for strategy and tactics that can aid her both in battle as well as in improving the ease of her travels.

    - Strong-willed: Although this is certainly not immediately evident, Catherine is very strong-willed, although others may call her stubborn (which is fair). She doesn't give up easily once she truly commits - as difficult as it can be to get her to - to something and is difficult to manipulate to your own ends because she will adamantly stick to her guns even when put under pressure.

    - Artistic: Although Catherine isn't overtly creative necessarily, ideas don't just pop into her head without inspiration with much frequency, she's a skilled artist who has spent hours honing her craft and has a good grasp over aesthetics. She knows when something looks good and knows how to make things look good. This certainly isn't a skill that can aid much in battle, but should she end up in a contest or performance, it will be a boon. Additionally, an ability to accurately recreate things she has seen on paper can be useful in other circumstances too.

    - Cautious: Catherine doesn't take unnecessary risks and will generally take the well-travelled, reliable and safe route over a gambit. While this can limit the extent of the rewards she may reap, it does allow her to succeed in her undertakings with regularity.

    Weaknesses:
    - Distrustful: Catherine has always had a hard time trusting people. She has a hard time believing people do anything with genuinely unselfish motivations. She prefers to spend her free time in solitude and is quick to assume the worst of people. It wouldn't be inaccurate to say that she has a tendency toward paranoia and if se had ever seen a professional about her problems, she'd likely have earned herself some sort of formal diagnosis. These traits make it difficult for her to form friendships with others.

    - Self-Centred: If you don't believe anyone else is going to look out for you, you quickly learn to put yourself first. Catherine has little desire to involve herself in the affairs of others or to go out of her way to benefit others. She can come off as rude or cold, and these adjectives are not exactly inaccurate. That isn't to say that she is incapable of caring for others, but she makes a point of not getting too close to people since she is of the opinion that will only make her vulnerable to backstabbing. Suffice to say, don't expect much help from her unless it's mutually beneficial.

    - Apathetic: While it's true that she is very stubborn and strong-willed, someone who will not easily give up on something once she commits to it, actually getting Catherine to commit to something and care about it isn't easy. She is extremely disinterested in the world around her and holds very little ambition. After all, why bother getting involved with something that's only going to hurt you in the end?

    - Cautious: While her caution can be a blessing, it also be to Catherine's detriment. She is not prepared to take much risk and this can often cause her to lose out on opportunities that come back to bite her later.

    Aspirations: Currently, Catherine holds no real aspirations. She sees little point in competitions like the league or contest and has no real drive to make something of herself. She recognises that this probably isn't the healthiest way to live, but she just can't bring herself to care. She would much rather lock herself away in her room and immerse herself in fictional worlds than interact with the real one. She is simply undertaking her journey to get her parents off her back… that and because they won't reinstate her access to her inheritance if she doesn't do it.

    Rival: While she certainly has enmity with a lot of people because of her personality, Catherine's lack of goals or ambitions means she lacks and real rival at this point. Anyone else undertaking a journey at this time could technically be called a rival in name she supposes, but she doesn't actually care enough about the league or anything of that sort to truly consider someone as such.

Her eyes are emerald green, her skin is fair, and her ears and mouth are small. She stands at an average height of 5 feet and 2 inches with a petite body.

    Strengths:
    Benevolence, Loyalty, & Magnanimous: Sachi is a kind and gentle soul; she loves to help out people whenever she can, willing to sacrifice her needs to help others and is willing to help anyone in need. She is understanding and will do her best to see the positive side in things, or be optimistic, and thinks that everyone has good in them, even though they don't show it. She is very loyal to her friends and family, and will stand by their side no matter what, be it through death. She doesn't hold a grudge of any kind, living up to the motto "Forgive but never forget".
    Independent & Observation : She is also a hardworking, independent, and dedicated person. Due to her past, Sachi had to learn to cook, clean, and do chores for herself. She will take up the hard loads and is a very skilled 'housewife', as told by others. Sachi is very observant, due to the lack of interactions when she was younger, most of her time was spent either reading or watching, could be other people, childre, or television. When she wasn't reading, she would watch pokemon battles on the television and those outside by her peers, observing and analyzing.
    Weaknesses:
    Wallflower: She will do everything to hide her burdens and lock away her problems, she doesn't want to burden others and is used to bottling it up. There are times when she will stand up, but not for herself, but her friends and family. She rarely speaks and is very quiet vocally, but that doesn't mean she is shy. She usually replies to questions with nods or gestures, a single sentence, short phrases or a simple word. When she speaks, she is soft-spoken, polite, and formal. She doesn't mind being social, but will wait 'til someone asks her, speaks to help, or feels like her input is needed.
    Too Forgiving, Self-Sacrificing Kindness, & Low Self-Esteem: She is forgiving, but too forgiving and will do it with everyone and hold no grudges at all. She has been told that her kindness will bring her trouble one day due to how kind she is to others, even strangers; her self-sacrificing kindness kicks in, causing her to neglect her needs. Her kindness has no boundaries, won't even complain; this allows people to push her around, and the girl won't stand up for herself, just stays quiet and absorbs it all. She doesn't like confrontations or arguing, will just agree to what others say, unable to refuse.
    Misdirection: Although Sachi is good at a couple of things, one thing she's not good at is her sense of direction, she needs her partner/pokemon to help her navigate, or a map, digital or paper-version.

    Aspirations: To explore! Ever since she was little, she's been confined to her house and the town it resides in. Her father wouldn't let her leave the town, for unknown reasons, and she's tried, but somehow, her father figures out her plans before she can get them far enough. She's only allowed to go outside the town if she's with an adult trainer or has a very strong pokemon, both being almost impossible. She's made a plan: once she gets her ATC, she shows her father and proves that the world outside their small town, she can handle it and it's dangerous perils.

    nature/Characteristics: Tora is an impish pokemon who is alert to sounds. He is mischievous and loves to 'play' with others, which leads to Sachi apologizing to people often. However, his 'playing' is very tame when directed at his trainer, towards strangers he doesn't cause much damage, but when it comes to humans he doesn't like, be prepared! His 'playing' consists of: using ember, scratching, stealing(later returned by Sachi), slapping his tail, etc. He is protective of his trainer and is always on alert for any strange sounds or people.

    Appearance: She is a young, blue-eyed girl who is about 5'7. She's dark-skinned, and has short, black hair that extends to her upper shoulders. For her outfit, she wears a light pink-striped white shirt that is only short enough to not go past her belly button. She also wears baggy beige pants with red lining, and pink and white sneakers for foot wear. She wears a large ring-like earring on her left ear, and a pink cap that's tied like a bandana on her head, with a visor that is clear and see through.

    Strengths:

    + Friendly: Val is mature and kind to people, even with random strangers she meets up with. She's eager on making friends, and having fun, lasting memories with those friends. She has great affection towards friends and partners. She is willing to support them whenever they are in trouble and will protect them if they are threatened in any way, even at the cost of herself.

    + Righteous Heart: She has a righteous heart and respects the difference between right and wrong. She completely despises cruelty and wickedness and will confront anyone who indulges in such actions, no matter what the consequences may be. However, she tries not to hurt the people she likes, even if they intend to do harm to her.

    + Optimistic: Val is very optimistic. She always sees the bright side of situations or anything that goes wrong, and takes matters with a smile and an upbeat nature. Her optimism is not misguided, however, and can also see what is or isn't realistic.


    Negatives:

    - Not a... very bright person: It takes her a while to grasp the concept or point on a while things, but that's not because of lack of trying. She's simple-minded, taking fascination with even the simplest things, and from all of this can be quite impulsive because of her inability to not think things through properly.

    - One-tracked: Once Val has her goal set into something, she does not compromise or get sidetracked. Normally that would be an admirable trait, but for her, it can come across as being obsessive and inattentive to even more important matters.

    - Enigmatic? Broken...?: There's just something about her that is locked inside. Broken, yet deep inside of her. know her, do they truly know her? She seems one dimensional, but one can ask themselves: why does she act like herself in the first place? Is she even... genuine? Or...


    Aspirations:

    Her main goal for her journey is seek at least 100 friends - humans, or pokemon. So, she seeks to meet and obtain as much pokemon as she can for friends. She also seeks a successful endeavor within her Gym Battle challenge in Galar, in the hopes of one day, becoming champion, like many other trainers who have the same dream.

    Rival:

    Val doesn't have a rival per se, as she always keeps in mind her own goals, rather than to out do another. (But who knows? Anything can change, once she finds the right person!)

    Strengths:
    -Friendly: Despite everything life has thrown at her, Haleigh tries to maintain a friendly, cheery demeanor around people. One would be hard pressed to tell that she once was a low level thug (though her sense of humor is crass and she can act tough if the situation warrants it) from how bubbly she is. She can usually find something to give someone a genuine compliment on and within reason, can get along with most people.

    -Driven: It's very apparent that Haleigh is someone who wants to be someone in the world and that she will do damn near anything to do it. As a newly minted Pokemon trainer, Haleigh has finally something more to her life than just trying to make it by and survive. It is quite apparent she puts her all into her journey, often with late nights training both herself and her Pokemon in various ways, coming up with new strategies and trying out new battle techniques. More importantly, she wants to do it for her own sake and go through her journey on her own terms; however, this trait of hers is constantly in conflict with her desire to seek approval of others.

    -Compassionate: Whether with people or Pokemon, Haleigh really cares about the friends that she makes and is deeply invested in the wellbeing of other people. She knows all too well how harsh and unforgiving the world can be and instead of adding to it, she feels it's her sacred duty to help others out in their hour of need. One of her favorite parts of battling is getting to know the other person and feeling like she is not only one step towards pushing herself to be the best she can be, but also the other person as well.

    Weaknesses:
    -Reckless: Despite her care for other people, she does not apply such care to herself and often puts herself through unnecessary risk. There's a side of her that does like the thrill of danger, but her recklessness is most notable as a manifestation of her traumas and inner turmoil; it's her way of telling the world she's not fine - or it would be if she didn't try and cover it up as simply adrenaline junky antics. This has gotten her in trouble many times over and has had several close calls with injury and personal danger with other people.

    -Doesn't like to feel vulnerable: This extends not only to not being seen as weak, but also in sharing anything about herself that makes her seem that way. Her parents were very critical towards her in showing vulnerability, and the streets are not a place you want to look vulnerable in lest you become easy prey. It usually manifests as dismissal of any troubles she's having as trivial or not nearly as important as other people's troubles. Every now and then, there are glimpses into a bitter side of herself that manifests through extreme self deprecation and uncharacteristic tirades.

    Aspirations:
    After graduating from the trainer school, Haleigh has the goal of becoming champion much like anyone else in the region. She has found her calling being with Pokemon and wants to earn the love of people all across Galar. By becoming champion, she can prove her parents wrong - whose words still bite at her core - and declare to the world that she does have worth.

    Rivals:
    Haleigh has two main rivals: Melody and Tristan. She has a friendly rivalry with Melody stemming from her days as a hooligan in a gang with her. When they both got picked up for the new Pokemon academy, their rivalry blossomed in the realm of battling and they continue to push each other to improve their battling strategies.

    Tristan's family ran in the same circles as her own and so they vaguely knew of each other before coming to the academy.

    Hometown: Born and raised in Ballonlea, Galar.

    Appearance: Paying homage to the foreign art of bug catching, Simon wields a sturdy metal bug net in his travels. The net serves both as a fashion accessory, as well as an actual tool to catch Pokemon - with the mesh allowing him to throw a Pokéball at it and capture whatever is inside.

    The pockets and fluff on his large white coat act as a natural shelter for the small bug-types he captures, and it can usually be seen housing wild critters seeking warmth. Simon doesn't mind this at all, and habitually checks in his pockets to make sure he doesn't accidentally hurt one.

    Strengths:

    Enthusiastic - Simon believes whatever a trainer lacks in skill can be made up in spirit, and battles and lives by this rule. Never one to let failure or tragedy dampen his mood, he enjoys encouraging other trainers and friends just as much as his own Pokemon, and believes that one's energy should always match that of their Pokemon. Outside of battling, he is always eager to help out a friend, and no matter how mundane the task, he can be expected to put his heart into it.

    Caring- If there's one thing Simon cares more about than proving himself, it's the wellbeing of his friends. He refuses to coerce his Pokemon into doing anything they wouldn't want to- which is why he keeps them out of their Pokeballs for the most part, and asks them to battle rather than ordering them to. For this same philosophy, he doesn't nickname his Pokemon, instead believing that they choose their own names.

    Adept with Pokemon - As evident by the wild Pokemon hanging out in his attire, Simon has a natural talent at communicating with Pokemon and gaining their trust. Perhaps due to the purity of his intentions (or lack thereof, as many of them seem to come to him on their own), or his use of organic pecha-scented fabric softener.

    Weaknesses:

    Short-sighted - Metaphorically, of course. Simon has a tendency of thinking half a step ahead, and sometimes a step behind. Not one for strategizing, he typically resorts to improvisation and quick thinking while in battle, which so far has netted (hah) him no victories against real trainers. Outside of battle, he tends to see things at face value, and rarely ponders the implications of events beyond what he can notice from the get-go.

    Naïve - For all his kindness and enthusiasm with people, Simon is equally as naive and over-eager with them. This makes him extremely easy to trick or take advantage of - something he is aware of, but often doesn't do anything about. In his mind, it is better to trust and lose, than to not trust at all.

    Stubborn - When Simon sets his mind on something - which happens very easily - it is nearly impossible to talk or force him out of it, until he decides to change his mind himself (in which case, he may find something else to lock his sights on). This can be extremely frustrating for anyone who works alongside him, as he may decide to follow his own mind without consulting with anyone else.

    Non-heat-resistant - He's wearing a coat man, he must get pretty hot under there

    Aspirations:
    Hopped up on big dreams and inspiration, Simon is aiming for the very top- the championship title of Galar. He sees his weak Pokemon selection and lack of success as the first chapter in his success story, and merely obstacles to overcome. In his mind the championship title is the only way to prove himself to the world.

    Rival:
    As he has not a single real-person victory under his belt, it's not surprising that no students have considered Simon enough of a challenge to call him a rival. That hasn't stopped him from publicly picking one as his own rival, though- a young man called Tristan, who graduated trainer school at the same time as him. Tristan's confidence and determination served as an inspiration to Simon, who despite losing to him in training matches, sees them as equally matched in potential- only "he's gotten luckier so far", as Simon would put it. He isn't afraid to let the world know Tristan is his rival, and whatever insults he may throw at Simon are just friendly rival banter, eh?

    Gender: Male

    Hometown: Rustboro

    Physical Appearance: Jasper doesn't make too much of an impression at a glance with his 5'9 stature and rather thin frame. His eyes are a pale blue that stare at most things put in front of them with apathetic indifference, if not quiet spite. Jasper's hair is about ear length, died a blue that matches his eyes and has no effort put into it aside from washing, often being mussed and disheveled from his hoods.

    Jasper usually dresses in subdued colors of clothes that cover him up thoroughly, sticking mostly to cargo pants and hoodies that are both long and baggy on him, only allowing his fingers to poke out of his sleeves.

    Strengths:
    "As if I'll let something like that slow me down!": Once Jasper sets his mind to something that really matters to him nothing will stop him from pursuing that goal. He will push from every angle possible as thoroughly as necessary to succeed just to prove that he can. He has to be thoroughly convinced that the goal was a mistake in the first place to stop, and even then he's likely to just twist the logic to change it into a goal he can{/I] justify.

    "You think I'll just put up with your shit?!": Jasper will never take anything he sees as wrong lying down. He is willing to spring into a fight at a moment's notice if he thinks he can do anything about it, even if the incident in question doesn't involve him at all. If what he's fighting over is personal? Woe unto his enemies.

    "Fuck off, I do the things I do because I want to, get over yourself." Sometimes Jasper's selfishness and self-righteousness can manifest in a strange form of generosity. He never looks for gratitude or a reward for any of his actions unless recompense is the exact thing he was after from the beginning. If he does something it's because he wanted to, not because of anything or anyone else and he'll fight you over it.

    "Who says I've got weaknesses?! Hey, put that pen down before I clock ya!"

    Trust issues: Jasper isn't in his journey to make friends. In fact, he kinda hates the idea. He's not just a loner, he finds anyone acting nice to be either suspicious or naive, and isn't tactful about saying so. On the rare occasion anyone does approach him with a hand extended in welcome, he's likely to smack it away and offer harsh words instead. He's inherently distrustful of anyone being nice, because why would they? What do they want from him?

    Spiteful: Like it says on the tin, when something or someone really makes an enemy of Jasper he stops being an indifferent grump and is more than glad to see something bad happen to them. At the very least he'll throw out words of mockery and smile at their misfortune. Really get him angry though and he's more than willing to make the suffering happen himself.

    Something to prove: Not to parallel another strength and weakness but… Jasper's commitment to progress and success comes from a place of low self worth. He's trying to convince himself of his value with everything he does.

    Aspirations: Jasper really doesn't know what he wants out of his journey...Or life, really. He just ended up on the streets of Galar when trying to start his own life didn't really work out. Now that Professor Sonia's given him a real chance with the school and her teachings, he just doesn't want to waste it. His journey is to find a destination and his destination is the journey for the moment. All he knows for sure is that he wants to be successfully independent and never hit rock bottom again.

    Rival: None. Jasper isn't looking to measure his success by beating anyone in particular, he just wants to get where he's going and crush any obstacle in his way.

    Ruben grew up across the more humble city scapes of Motostoke. Through his success in football Ruben earned himself a contract at Wedgehurst Town F.C. What's left of his family currently reside in the suburbs of Wedgehurst as of his graduation from trainer school.


    Physical Appearance
    A consummate professional, Ruben is never seen with a beer belly or without his toned physique. With the dense muscle mass of a world level athlete, it's clear to see why the 6'2" goal scorer is likened to Boltund when he's on the pitch.
    Short, black, bouncy; Ruben tends to keep his hair maintained to sustain his image. He can never be seen without a sharp cut, faded sides and a messy high top, with a single strand of hair he allows to hang down his forehead. Rarely is he able to grow his chinstrap beard, but he's very proud of it when he does.
    Fashion isn't exactly an area of expertise for Ruben. However, he's a big fan of music and the for the local artists that he follows, fashion is very much a focus. His stock in the sport has taken him to a place where he can receive merchandise gifts from artists and fashion brands, but he rarely knows much about the value or status each individual article comes with. He can often be seen wearing sleek material hoodies, designer jackets and fine shirts among other things but he prefers a sleek and comfortable tracksuit.


    Strengths
    The most obvious is his athleticism. While Ruben was often pushed around on the pitch, he has a massive physical advantage over your average joe. Fast, strong, quick to react; Ruben's background as a professional athlete has served his physical capability very well. Unlike a certain famous Rattata, Ruben actually is in the top percentage of sprinters in the world.
    Ruben has benefitted greatly from being around men that have dedicated their lives to a particular field. Having that pool of experience to learn from has imbued him with an aura of confidence and leadership. He's never afraid to step up to a challenge or put his best foot forward and is quick to inspire others to do the same.
    To make it as a professional athlete, one needs a drive, dedication and discipline like no other. Ruben has suffered and sacrificed a lot in life, so he has little doubt about his ability to hold out on something, stick to something and see results. He's very practiced in following game plans, long term dieting and missing out on the late-night fun his friends would be having. He's been responsible for watching his younger siblings while his nan took trips to the hospital and it only served to hone that discipline and sense of responsibility. He works hard at everything he does and strives to be the hardest working at it.
    There's no way around it, Ruben exploded onto the football scene at 16 and was on the Wedgehurst Town payroll for two years beyond even that. To put it lightly, he's comfortable financially. As he's technically still under contract, you're not going to catch him wanting for money.


    Weakness
    Among his many sparkling traits, Ruben has many less that desirable ones too. The ugliest of that group is his hyper competitiveness. While the stakes would have to be extremely high for him to consider going outside the rules, they don't have to be all that high for him to try relentlessly until he's the winner. It could be as simple as a game of rock-paper-scissors, Ruben won't let it go until he's well and truly beat without so much as a glint of an excuse, and even then he won't be happy about it. Once he's lost, you may find him skipping sleep, hygiene and food to prepare himself for a rematch.
    To say Ruben has an inflated sense of self-importance would be an understatement. Few would call him obnoxiously braggadocious or snobbish but to say he's the centre of his own world wouldn't be far off. He puts the world of pressure on himself and believes everything is about him. Pipe burst in the bathroom? Someone's trying to sabotage his game. No more Salmon wraps at a restaurant? Clearly a Motostoke United fan caught wind that he was going to eat there. On top of that, his reputation certainly doesn't precede him. He's famous, sure. An icon in the making in Wedgehurst even. Does everyone in Galar know who he is? He'll soon learn the answer is no.
    Overtrained. One of the only criticisms all of Ruben's coaches have levelled at him throughout his playing career. The boy's body needs rest but he just can't figure out how to do it. When he's fit, he's capable of incredible things that very few people in the world can manage. When he's fit is a difficult condition to meet. His ankles in particular have become brittle, but Ruben is no stranger to a muscle injury either. He has the record at Wedgehurst Town for the most time spent on the treatment table, and it hasn't made him popular with his coaches.
    A self-proclaimed psychiatrist may say Ruben has attachment issues or that he has problems letting go. They'd probably be correct in their assessment. What really holds Ruben back though is his overprotectiveness. He has a tendency to take matters into his own hands when his back is against the wall. Even if others are better suited to the task. Be it from the fact that he was the oldest of four kids or the fact he was always the star player in his football teams growing up: Ruben is used to being the one to carry things forward and it's a huge part of why he always finds himself in the firing line.


    Aspirations
    Ruben has dreamed big all his life and for the most part he's already achieved them. Become a professional footballer. Check. Score in a local derby. Check. Win the league title…well he's only 18. Ruben has a plethora of things he still wants to achieve in football, but right now he's been sent on a pokemon journey to earn his contract with the club. If he can maintain his fitness throughout a tumultuous journey around the Galar region, he can surely lead the line in a title winning side.

    In football, it's Ruben versus the world right now. Motostoke fans have always hated him, Wedgehurst fans are questioning his credibility, the club don't want to renew the contract that puts food in his siblings mouths; does Ruben even have time for a pokemon trainer rival?    ​

    Rosa Valdés / 17 / Female
    Hometown: She moved from Ecruteak in Johto when she was 15, tagging along with her childhood friend after she lost her parents.

    Her features are soft, and still yet unhardened by the life of adventure that she aspires. Her makeup is minimal, and her attire often consists of gowns and dresses which are often covered in smudges of ink from her fountain, and also quill pens. Her hair is often wound up into a loose bun with a ribbon or several clips, and she wears an heirloom pendant around her neck - one of the few things she has to remember her late mother by. She's very petite in stature, standing only 4' 11".

    Strengths: Hard worker- Rosa was long taught that once she became an adult she'd have nobody to rely on but herself. After losing her parents, those teachings were etched into her mind as it became her new reality. Rosa hardly ever stops working and always has a book in her hands. If she has nothing to read, then she'll take notes of her surroundings and behaviors of people and pokemon alike for future reference.

    Ray of sunshine - Rosa is always positive, even in the roughest situations. What's the use of being sad? Wasting time crying over something that you can't change isn't going to do anyone any good. She believes you should always look at the bright side of things, even if in the moment it seems there is none.

    Woman of many faces - Rosa has a potent poker face. For anyone who's not intricately familiar with her it's impossible to get a read on her current emotions. She's constantly wearing a face in front of others, and can change it to suit her needs. She has a great deal of control over her emotional and mental state... for the most part.

    Weaknesses: Intelligent - While many may think this to be a strength, for Rosa it has become a detriment to her success. Her intelligence constantly gets in the way of her decision making, causing her to conjure up a multitude of scenarios in her head for how things can play out. She constantly overthinks things, making inferences on people's goals based on her past notes and their current behaviours to the point that she's isolated herself from the majority of her class. Her Rival is now one of the only people who actively pay attention to her and seek to egg her on.

    Intrigued by the minute - Rosa often gets caught up in the little things. She can sit for hours watching the waves of the sea as they lap against the shore. She can zone out watching nature documentaries, losing herself in the texture of a Shellder's body or in the movement of a Machoke's musculature.

    Aspirations: She just wants to live her life. She figures that by going on a journey to explore the new region she calls home, that she'll be able to eventually discover what it is that she wants to do. And maybe, in that time, find someone to fall in love with and settle down. She's a simple girl, with simple goals and simpler aspirations.

They enrolled at the school at the same time, and since then their friendship has turned to rivalry as they've constantly tried their best to one-up each other. Now, even in graduation their goals are set to parallel each other, and it's become a race to see who can finish their adventure first.
