Have you ever had surgery?

  • I'm dreading getting Wisdom Teeth

I hope I have a couple more years

I had too many teeth and was gonna have a crooked smile, so when I was 15 the doctors gave me oral surgery to take out my wisdom tooth. It was so fast and painless that I did not even know they had done the opperation. It was actually easier than a normal trip to the dentist I thought at least.

You may never need to have the surgery, but if you do you might be surprised to find that it's not what you feared. For me it honestly just felt like going into a relaxing sleep. It might be a little awkward afterward, you could feel still sleepy and will probably be advised to eat softer food like ice cream for a day or two but that was about it.

I had a surgery last month, and I got the bill for it a few days ago. I had a herniated disc that was apparently the size of a lima bean that was hitting my spinal chord and caused tremendous pain down the entire right side of my body and made it difficult for me to move my head or even sit or stand for extended period of time. This happened back in July and I just got it fixed last month. Honestly, the most painful part of the surgery was the bill. My insurance covered a huge chunk of it, but for the same day surgery that I went in at 10:00 AM and got out at 5:00 PM, the surgery cost about $47,000 total.

Anaesthesia is amazing. One minute I was laying in the coldest, most intimidating looking surgery room and then I inhaled three breaths and the next thing I know, the surgery was done and I'm in the recovery room.

Ich, eye surgery. Just the thought of it makes me cringe.

I've had to get one wisdom tooth removed, and I've had surgery on my stomach twice. Once just a regular gastroscopy, and another to get a sample of my stomach lining.

  • I had surgery on my ankle because I didn't have any cartilage in it. And I still don't, which means I'll likely have to have it done again eventually.

I totally second this, ugh. Bringing any object near my eyes is enough to freak me right out, let alone getting one operated on...

I've had a couple surgeries the past few years. It's a bit of an odd situation, but I ended up with nose gob coming out of my eye, which required surgery to fix. They ended up discovering that the cause of that was blocked sinuses, and needed an operation to clear them. My specialist figures having been exposed to mould, which I'm allergic to, may have been the trigger for that.

My third surgery, and the only one requiring hospitalization, was to remove a massive cyst.

    So... yeah!

I had a few surgeries when I was a kid. Recently I had microneedling, but I don't think that it can be counted as a surgery

  • I had some handiwork done on my throat and esophagus when I was kid, because I had a stomach tube that went to my lung when I was born and it caused me choking problems....Not so much now, I've gotten better as I've gotten older.

Having surgery in like 2 - 3 weeks - have never been able to breathe properly through my nose due to structural issues/a lot of other factors which led to a multitude of other medical issues (no surgery needed for those though!) Doctors are doing surgery to hopefully resolve the issue more permanently. Excited to breathe properly if it works. And smell! All my friends are concerned because I told them I didn't even realise most foods had a distinct smell (I can only smell if it is particularly strong / right against my nose and even then not always). Have had wisdom teeth surgery on one side of my face if that counts (need to go back and do the other side probably within this year too :()

  • nope! my cosmetologist says i have small forehead expression wrinkles though, and she said a good way to remove them is by botox injections. the idea of botox makes me uncomfortable but that's about the most I'd be willing to do if I had something super noticeable. i don't though fortunately, and from what I notice watching youtubers my age making videos, expression lines on the forehead at this age seems to be a common enough thing haha

  • I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 12 (before they grew in) because I had braces and they didn't want to have everything get messed up if my wisdom teeth started coming in in the middle of it. They only took out the bottom ones though, but the top ones are in and everything is fine and dandy so I'm not going to fix what isn't broken lol.

The second time I had surgery was when I was 19. I have (or I guess had because it's fully controlled now) a hormone disorder and basically my estrogen levels were so high that I developed pretty bad gynecomastia (basically the fancy medical term for 'manboobs' lol). For a variety of reasons it went untreated for about a decade until eventually I ended up getting it surgically fixed. The funny thing is that it (the surgery) happened three days before Christmas so it was like the worst Christmas present ever but also kinda the best in a way because after the initial recovery period was over I felt so much better and less awkward in my own body, so yay. It's been about four years and the scars are almost gone, so that's cool too.

Third surgery was when I was 20 (the summer of the same year I had the previous surgery) and I was having abdominal surgery (related to the same hormone disorder). That was the most interesting I guess because I had to spend one night in the hospital (just to make sure everything was okay). It was actually really, really, really boring, but I supposed if you are in the hospital, "boring" is probably not the worst thing that it could be. I remember I had to relearn to walk a little bit because the medicine and stuff they gave me took a little bit to wear off, but before the week was up it was like it never happened. The scars were basically gone by then too because the surgery was done the minimally invasive way.

Those were the three times I had surgery, and I don't plan on increasing that number any time soon. I am pretty scared of surgery (and I remember all three times freaking out right before because I was convinced I was going to die. Obviously I didn't).

  • i'm not sure if this counts as surgery but i was really stupid as a kid and i'd run into the front door to open it
one day i just went through the glass, they had to get shards out of my wrist/arm and i think they used some kinda medical glue to fix it up?
i've also had 8 teeth removed (4 baby, 4 adult) because my mouth was too crowded and my baby teeth refused to fall out naturally
another time i shut my leg in a door (dont ask, idk either) and had to get stitches but that probably isn't surgery lol
oh and that one time i got hit by a firework.. wait thats not surgery either is it..

  • Twice and both times were because I've broken my bones (arm when I was 6 and pinky from last year, both on the right and I'm surprised I'm still right handed tbh).

I had a few surgeries when I was a kid, but not very serious. The first one was gland removal surgery after I had inflammation, and antibiotics didn't help me. The second surgery I had was a laser eye surgery. Now, I can see people's faces without wearing glasses. Now, I'm planning on having a microneedling that a lot of people tried at Bellevue. It's some sort of plastic surgery[/URL], but I can hardly call it a surgery at all. I'm wondering if anyone here had it before. Was it painful? How did you feel after that? And the main question does it worth it?

I had major heart sergery as a baby as I was born with a hole in my heart and had it fixed. Then when I was 26 I had to have surgery again to put in a pacemaker & defibrillator....on my birthday no less. And that's when I found out my heart is backwards so I'm assbackwards on the inside as I like to tell everyone. xD

  • Closest I got to a surgery was when I cracked my forehead open running head on into a door hinge as a kid. Apparently all the doctors did was apply meds to it and manually close it shut for a little while until it closed by itself lol. The visible scar is iconic to those who know me. Learned to embrace it too. I specifically tell editors not to Photoshop it out when I get my picture taken lol.
