I voted for ones I can see myself using, those being Flushed's, Avishka's and xxkaylabby's. They're really artfully created and inspired, lovely works guys.

Going with Lilith's, again she masters colour quite well, and it's not overly busy or saturated. I liked flushed's icon, but the colours were too faded for my liking so the quality didn't feel quite so high. Lilith GMV. Best of luck guys!

Had to vote for Flushed, haha. It's extremely simplistic, and those color suit each other very nicely; pieces of puzzle put together in the best way possible. Second favorite would be Lilith's; bright, colorful, and that artwork is very, very adorable. =) Kayla's one is pretty wonderful, but its brightness is a little too high, though; wish it were lower.

Voted Lilith, acatfrommars and Peitharchia. Really like the color schemes of the former two and the latter is nice and sharp, and a pretty interesting stock to begin with.

WAH. I CANT BELIEVE I MISSED IT.

Voted for Lilith and Avishka. I have seen both of those stocks before (I'm pretty sure I've seen the first?) and I really like the coloring and placement and what they've done to both the stocks. :)

Flushed's icon is pretty awesome. A mix of Ruby and Sapphire in Emerald's colour! I can totally see that being used as a standard icon. Besides, it's really simplistic yet well made.

I voted for Hoenn (hah), Lilith, and Avishka. All three of you have something in common that I'm a sucker for : vibrant colors. Expertly placed focals, beautiful eye-catching colors, and just the perfect amount of editing that seperates the stock from the icon without overdoing it.

Fantastic job guys, and good luck to you all.

Voted for Flushed and Aquacorde - Flushed's is really simple and nice, and the "再见" part's cool. c: Usually it's used to mean "goodbye" but literally it translates to "see (you) again", so I thought that was fitting.

And Aquacorde's, the expression on all three of them just makes me laugh. :P

Avishka's entry is the first one to catch my eye, and not just because it has the eon twins. I love the texture, shadows, and the warm glow that enhances its storybook effect.

xxkaylabby's entry is also stunning in that the greens were made more appealing and Gardevoir's gown became whiter. The crop is great too, and I adore how the hearts were kept in the icon.

Aquacorde gmv as well, for the trumpets! I also like how she brought out the cyan colors. It's a party-starting color for sure.

Um, I know the rules say "no overt negativity" and I'm not trying to be negative here, but I don't think any of these icons should even be in this contest. Even the banner for this contest is someone else's fanart. Unless you are the creator of the "stock" (I don't think you are using the term correctly) image or have explicit consent from the artist, then you shouldn't be using someone else's art in your icons. These are all just blatantly ripping someone else's artwork which is a huge no-no in graphics design. It's copyright infringement.

I will not be voting for any of these.

Blatant ripping would consist of omitting credit and claiming your icon as an original piece (which I should point out, no one is claiming). Perhaps the original image itself doesn't cut it, and I know I'm guilty of posting only the image and not the source, but there is an effort to distinguish between the original and the final piece. And the rest is up to interpretation of how many changes one must make in order to constitute a non-rip, but I do believe that the changes made to each of these stocks is enough.

I respect your opinion, and I appreciate your feedback. Trust me, as the moderator here, I do work hard to make sure members are giving adequate credit if needed. However, graphic design is defined as the art of communication, stylizing, and problem-solving through the use of type, space and image. Graphic designers use various methods to create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. It is a medium that relies on multiple components and materials, not all of which originate form the mind of the working artist; as is the case where the artist is not the photographer for the image being manipulated. However, all source material has been given credit in this case, so the original artist is being represented.

Not only that, but these pieces aren't being used for any commercial, or really personal, means. This is strictly for fun in an effort to learn, teach, share, and explore. Creating icons, signatures, tags, avatars, and so on is an accepted, valid facet of the graphic design. If you would like to speak with me further on this matter, please feel free to PM me.

I totally get where you're coming from. As an aspiring artist myself, I can see how others using my artwork without my permission would make me feel. But graphic design is a medium most people get into by using stocks (no, that's not really the wrong usage. anything you use as a base can be termed a "stock". whether or not it is correct according to your graphic lingo isn't something I was aware of, though) that don't belong to them. Not everyone can start off creating original works and scratch pieces at the very beginning. Like Fairy mentioned, this is all for fun and to practice/hone our skills. No one is claiming the art as their own. Most people take care not to use art if the artist has explicitly stated that their art cannot and should not be used by others in any way. And we DO credit the original artists. I try to, at least when the name's visible.

Besides, a lot of image manipulation tends to ruin icons. Icons generally look best when they're simplistic - mostly composed of changes like color manipulation and adding a few effects and stuff. You can't expect people to cook up original art everytime they're in need for stocks for a fun little contest - not everyone has the time or the skills that are essential for the task. On that note - I'm sure 99.9% of the graphic artists use stuff like c4ds, textures, brushes and patterns too. Do they credit each and every single person whose c4d they used in a work? Do they? Assuming you're a graphic artist - do you? If not, why do you think there's a problem with people using fanart as stocks? (when they're even crediting the original artists!) Actually wait, you're against the entire notion of people using stuff that's made by others, am I right? Do you create your own c4ds, textures, brushes etc? No offense intended, I'm just curious.

Anyway, onto the real topic - Congratulations to the winners! I'm kinda late and I didn't get to vote but the audience did pick some good entries this time, imo. :) Can we get started on topic selection for next contest, though? I can't wait for my turn to participate!!!!
