Anyone else developed an online shopping addiction throughout this quarantine?

It's been a rough couple months for my wallet. Every time I get interested in a hobby, I immediately jump the shark and add to cart. In the span of April to June, I now own:

    - a condenser microphone
    - a desktop mic arm
    - an audio interface
    - another pair of earphones even though I already have 3 perfectly working ones
    - an xlr cable for some reason
    - a couple beanies to try a new style
    - two new phone chargers even though my old one still works
    - a USB hub
    - a desk lamp
    - a phone tripod
    - a mini guitar amplifier
    - dozens of new guitar peripherals (tuner, butt load of strings, capo, picks, straps etc.)
    - fine grade steel wool for cleaning, and
    - an electronics contact cleaner also for cleaning

I don't know if that's everything but it's been a huge dent to my savings and I'm a mess right now. I need to stop. Any tips?

Update: Oh my god I totaled everything and I actually spent upwards of $270 in less than 2 months. That may be a low number for y'all, but for a guy like me, with my economic social status, living in a developing country, that's egregiously huge. This is worse than I thought...

Nope! I already had one of these before quarantine. I mean...everything is cheaper online. Stores need to make a profit so they typically add a mark-up to prices - and this is on top of VAT! - which online retailers (at least, good ones) will not add to the price. I've been buying everything online for years now. It's cheaper, more convenient, easier to compare prices, and generally more pleasant because I don't have to deal with other people.

I have definitely bought more, though. On top of the usual games I buy I've also bought an Xbox One S and spent £1000 on a new laptop and software/peripherals...but then, I'm working more, and I knew big one-off purchases were coming this year. Still gotta buy a new TV and some furniture...

Nope. I haven't spent any money online at all this year, even before the pandemic. I plan to keep it this way until the pandemic is over. I have no reason to buy anything right now. Especially since non essential items are getting delay shipping, what's the point in doing so? The only thing I'm gonna buy online anyway is a new phone, but not for awhile.

Yes! I've purchased quite a few clothing items. My online shopping addiction will be short-lived now that local shops have re-opened, as I much prefer in-store shopping. I must confess that I find online shopping quite stressful and I'm constantly worried that my package will end up lost or will be shipped to the wrong address halfway across the world. Which is interesting, considering I'm not naturally an anxious sort.

Damn lucky for you guys. Control is the name of the game. I need to find some tips on how to curb this unhealthy habit of adding things to cart too much.

My advice would be to think about whether you need it or just want it. As a general rule, I find that if I have to think about it for too long, I am trying to justify it and I don't actually need it, so I shouldn't buy it.

Kind of? I mean, it's definitely given me a lot more times to work on things, so I buy necessities. I've been buying a lot of props or materials lately, so I suppose it has. If anything though, it's really helped me control where I spend my money because before lockdown, I would go shopping and instantly buy whatever that spotted my eye. This time, as money is a little more difficult and is needed for things of priority; it's needed on that.

Honestly, not really... the things I've ordered have generally been needs instead of wants. My boyfriend's done a few impulse purchases but they also weren't terribly expensive.
Except for the Pokemon Center order I did today. That was a splurge. v___v

I can 100% understand why people would get an online shopping addiction right now: getting a package in the mail is such a good feeling when nothing else is going on.

i've probably been about the same as usual, though i might have ordered more art and merch than i normally would bc we haven't been able to go to cons. so during what would have been momocon, i ordered stuff from artists that were supposed to be at the con to show support, and i would have been buying a lot of stuff during that anyway. but no, i haven't developed at bad habits. i've kind of remained the same, ordering stuff online as i see it at a typical non-quarantine pace.

Oh gosh, yes! I've even outdone you, Roniverse! Having things sent through the mail has been my lifeline throughout the pandemic, haha. I've used money from my student loan and COVID-19 bonus to build myself a new desktop, among other things. I bought:

    • 27" 1440p curved AOC monitor
    • Ducky Miya sakura keyboard
    • Pink Glorious model-o gaming mouse
    • Personalised pink cat mousepad
    • Studio Ghibli Jiji mousepad
    • 12 books (about animals) from Booktopia
    • Ocarina of Time ocarina from Spencer Register
    • Uni textbooks
    • A bunch of uni supplies (folders, pens, notebooks etc)
    • Stockings
    • Power Supply
    • SSD
    • Ryzen 5 3600
    • G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB
    • Motherboard
    • CPU Cooler
    • Mounting Kit
    • 2TB Hard Drive
    • Probably more I'm forgetting 😵

I really love online shopping... 💧 But it's worth the investment, since I won't need to upgrade again for a considerably long time, I hope!
