The Pokémon battle UIs have gone through a lot of changes over generations. While the general menu options are similar, the look is visually overhauled each time.

Third versions often had their own UIs too, though the games listed above are mostly originals and remakes.

Which battle UI did you like the most? This can be for whatever reason you want, from design to finding it easy and comfortable to navigate!

Seeing the Gen 3 UI again is pure nostalgia lol
I like it, but it's hardly the best here.

For the 3DS era I think gen 5 and gen 6 had the better UI, not a fan of gen 4 and 7's.

Overall I gotta go with gen 8's. It's simple and straight to the point and in SwSh you can hit a button and be remembered what a move does and it's strength etc. if you forgot!
I sometimes forget how strong or accurate a move is exactly and just not having to first open the pokemon screen, going to your in battle pokemon and then opening it's info just to check accuracy and move strength etc. is so dang convenient =D

GB era: Gen II, obviously. It's visually comfortable for its time, and I love the BIG LETTERS and the fluidity of sprites in Crystal especially.

Handheld era: Either Pt/HG/SS or US/UM. Yeah, the Gen 4 UI was slow as a whole, but it was also one of the most visually appealing. I owe it to the BIG FONTS as well. US/UM is the peak of the 3DS era UIs for being significantly more fluid and less cluttered than previous entries.

Hybrid era: Sw/Sh, no contest. I do wish the type were a little bigger like in the handheld era (because I do still play on Handheld Mode most of the time even though the game is optimized for console), but it's otherwise practical.

Sword and Shield UI is most informative about your opponent's weakness and resistance it always helpful to people who are new to pokemon and why their attack deals less damage and help learn more about type matchups. some battle UI from other generation than gen 4 and below have this ▼▲ it's so helpful on how many times each stats was boosted or lowered so it's vital if you aim to hit hard or endure the attacks.

Design-wise, I loved the vibrancy of Alola's UIs. Lots of striking colors and it's pleasant to look at. But overall, I think LGPE has the nicest one for similar reasons - nice colors, pleasant to look at, and a bit more minimal with all the required info being on a single screen. The look/feel of the Let's Go games is something I miss quite a bit at this point!

Most of my experience is Gen III-V and out of that, I have to say HGSS is my favourite. Cleaner and brighter than the DPPt one, Gen III is just a little splash of colour different from the first two generations, and like everything with Gen V I found it looked a little...messy is the wrong word, pixelated too...fuzzy?

The addition of X for Poké Balls in Gen VIII is the best thing they've done to it since the touchscreen era though.
