It's damn difficult to get a "decent" job anywhere in the US these days unless you have prior experience :| I've tried applying to cashier positions all in the past with no luck at all, just because I didn't have prior experience.

Thats the reason all of my appliances so far have been declined ;-;

Yeah, how the hell are you supposed to get experience if you can never get a first such job O.o

Thats just how things work out appearantly... There arent much jobs avalible here anyways since more and more people are getting fired everywhere around the country.

Volunteer.

No one wants to work without getting paid, but it does get you experience.
Lots of places are always looking for volunteers and they can be great gateways to different industries. I did 6months unpaid-admin in an animal rescue sanctuary, and got the experience to go with my qualifications.

I'm confident that it was that alone that secured me my current job as I know someone who was in my course in university that got turned down for the same job, because I was accepted.

If you're interested, the best thing to do is look up some charities which have a base of operations close by and give them a phonecall. Even if they don't want you they are likely to have contact with most of the other charities in the area.

You can't get a (official) job over here if you're under 18, plus you're mostly still in school when you're 18 anyway over here, whereas a lot of 16/17/18 y/o's often already have a small job or two because they really need monies

The bitter truth is that the way you get a first job is to know somebody. That's how I got mine. There's an expression that it's not what you know it's who you know. I don't necessarily think that's true all the time, but before you know anything, who you know is really all you have lol

Well tbh the only job I want is a proper one after graduating :x And I know my professors and can probably butt my way into a job at uni, at least I'm hoping to get a chance to do science and research and such. I enjoy my lazy free time for now xD

Personally I have no idea on what to bet as job later at all, yet I'm looking in the direction of either medicine or languages (since doctors/translators are highly wanted and thus obviously paid off well over here)

It was difficult for me to get a job, and it took me from the time I returned from San Diego to now to find one. And yeah, as Raichu mentioned, you have to know somebody. That's what I lacked, because I didn't have any references or former classmates living nearby because they don't live here anymore.

Somniac did say something pretty helpful. That is volunteering, it pays you experience and you can use that to perfect your resume. Trust me, it'll wow your potential employers. Hospitals, local animal shelters, and even elementary/middle schools are great places to help, and even homeless shelters too. Just to name a few.

I don't find myself getting another job soon. I like where I'm at now. I don't have any conflicts, I get along well with my managers and co-workers, and best of all, my schedule is flexible, which allows me to go to school at ease, and I can just go to work at weekends.

Wow, that's one hilarious chameleon xD

Jobs aren't easy to get in today's economy. Even a high school diploma doesn't get you far now a days. If you have a degree in a field you may even still have issues finding a job. It sucks in a world where you have to go to college to get a degree in something you won't enjoy or want to do just to be able to make it. Honestly, I don't have a job and don't plan on trying to get for a long while if I can help it. This government of ours is all ****ed up.

If you don't enjoy something or don't want to do it then why would you go get a degree in it so that you can... go do it for the rest of your life? Making money's pointless if the time spent making it is totally wasted because you hate what you do. You can't buy time, after all. I'd settle for a low-paying job that I can at least tolerate over a high-paying job that I hate. :\

It's true about the whole "it's who you know, not what you know" thing, though. I've had jobs before which I wouldn't have had if I hadn't known the people that I did. But idk if I consider that a bad thing. The people who've been able to make contacts have a better chance of getting a job than those who don't and... honestly, I'm okay with that. I don't mean to say that qualifications shouldn't count for anything, and in specialised fields you won't be going anywhere without the proper qualifications before you even begin to think about contacts, but I actually like that there are ways to help you get a job aside from just grades. Some people get lucky with who they know, sure, but some people get lucky by being more intelligent than others. That's just the way it is and that's fine with me. *shrug*

Razor, I think that rant kind of killed the DCC, but I agree with completely hahaha.

Anyway, what else are you guys up to?? I'm at my college right now. Really ready to go home, just waiting on my brother to do something first. Soooo tired right now. Only got 2 hours of sleep. :(

You're always playing video games, though I guess that explains why you're modded to the Video Games section here lol.
