I'm totally a cat person, always have been. I can't remember what drew me to felines originally as I was very young, maybe it was because they had a air of regalness? Too much Aristocats? Either way, it was the kitteh life for me, and it still is.
I like their more independent nature; from the cats I've owned, they still like to get attention, but don't need tons of it. I also like that they don't need to go out, and where I live, that's a major advantage. It gets very cold and icy in the winter, which makes going on walks quite the chore (for most dogs and their humans). Cats tend to be less hyper then dogs, which does suit my lower energy levels. And, I just feel more comfortable around kitties.
That's not to say I don't like dogs though, I've matured from that phase. I do like being able to take my pooch outside when the weather is nice, I feel safer with my dog in the house, and most doggies that I've encountered have a positive energy to them. However, I simply prefer cats overall.
I know both animals are stellar and make great pets, provided you can meet their needs.
