Anybody like the idea of having a VIP battle tournament through D/P/HG/SS, B/W or X/Y in the foreseeable future?

I'm not so sure about that given the DS wi-fi servers will close down later this month, which effectively rules out any option that isn't X and Y. And also not everyone's wi-fi even connects to their system successfully, like mine.

What do you mean the DS servers will close down?
Does that mean you can't battle, trade, etc. with any of the DS games?

I guess the reason they're doing this is to encourage people to use the 3DS and/or Wii U. The latter hasn't been doing very well sales-wise, while the 3DS has been going strong. Many are hoping the upcoming Super Smash Bros. 4 can remedy the bad Wii U sales, probably due to the system lacking huge flagship titles other than the Mario games.

And I pretty much ditched my DS Lite when its hinge got loose lol.

I was hoping to get back into the games, but this is kind of a strong turn off to it haha. Haven't played X and Y so I don't know what it's like, but since I might just try it.

I wonder if there's a possibility they'll bring it back.

I don't get why they didn't do it in stages. At least for first party games, roll out the shut down piecemeal so the older games disconnect before the newer games.

I remember some people suggesting that it was to save them money. But it could always be due to the fact that they're moving on and done supporting stuff that's nearly ten years old.

I still have my badly damaged DS Lite in my dorm right now lol, and my GBA SP which doesn't always keep charges going (it works, and its charger works, but I have to nudge it to make it keep going).

I still own my first game system - a green GameBoy Color. It's a trooper.

It doesn't even work for money, but I still have my original Gameboy Pocket Silver. It was my first and I'll never stop loving it.

I still have my blue Gameboy Color. Thing is basically waterproof and all around indestructible. I treated it so bad as a kid and it's still going strong. I ended up taking off all of my felt pokemon stickers from it last year though because I was embarrassed when my friend wanted to borrow it. Such a mistake.

As for the wi-fi thing, some people are trying to set up their own servers replicating what Nintendo has. They are hoping to get enough data collected about the system before it shuts down, and eventually they'll want to use custom firmware in the league à la Riivolution, or through hacked ROM's on flashcarts. I'm really looking forward to progress from them. Community servers are already pretty popular amongst dreamcast fans, and https://www.onlineconsoles.com also has a lot of imformation about this.

I remember hearing about that, still I wonder what it'd be like if their campaign ended up being successful and they do eventually end up creating the pseudo-server.

They won't. The company that hosts their servers are closing up this month as well, so any chance of the servers coming back is next to nil.

Do you know which came first? Was it Nintendo deciding to close the servers so the company shut down, or the company decided to shut down so Nintendo is closing the servers?

I hope it's the latter because the former sounds mean.
