Both running around with flags- and rifles- sounds cool, but I couldn't get into ROTC for my life. I didn't even bother to sign up.

I mean, the only thing that would do to benefit me is take away my gym class, but then I still like gym. even if I have it first period

I can't believe I almost missed a conversation about marching. I would have died. Well, on the inside at least.

I loved marching band! It was one of my favorite activities in high school.

But maybe not as much fun to watch? I had a friend who was on it for a year and they got to do their own routines for competitions and such with whatever music they wanted.
Ahh, how is any kind of music fun to watch?

XD I'm in both JROTC and marching band.

Color Guard for JROTC is when you have the colors, or flags (like the american flag and state flag) along with two rifles on the side, so you are guarding the colors. I actually do these every once in awhile.

Completely different from marching band color guards which just do flag twirling stuff.

I actually just finished my last year in marching band. It was a good note to end on though, we won state for the first time ever!

My high school didn't even have a marching band throughout my last few years simply because there was no interest. It's a shame too :[

Good job! The best my school ever placed was fifth overall at the pacific northwest championships a couple years ago. We did extremely well considering we're a 2A school competing in the same division as 4A schools.

Still, state champions, that's quite the feat.

Marching band! You know, with all those awesome field shows! Oh man, I better stop now before I get carried away and end up typing a book.
Marching band is literally the only thing I miss about high school.

Ironically, it was one of the major reasons why I wanted high school to be over with.

We had a band in our school, but it wasn't a marching one.

I only play a keyboard in my spare time, and since I haven't had much of it I'll have to derust myself with it soon. Maybe learn some new tunes.

I did learn how to play a recorder back in primary school though. ~

I know exactly what that feels like. I miss marching band so much, but I'm so glad to be done with it. XD

My school had a band, too (not a marching band). Got to see them perform at the end of every school-year in the auditorium. They were amazing. They once did a song by Motorhead called "Overkill," and it was quite accurate. They messed up the lyrics a bit mid way through, but oh well—they tried their best. No one's perfect, right?

Trombone is the only musical instrument that I know how to play. I learned it while I was in elementary school. I also know a thing or two about guitars. On my first year of college, a friend of mine used to bring his guitar with him every couple of weeks. While I was talking with him one day, he decided to show me which string does what, and played me a short song at the end. n__n

My school's color guard in the band was horrible.. the girls that were a part of my school band's color guard were just on it to be popular and seen at all football games. Their performance wasn't good at all and I think a few times I'd seen them drop the flags too.

WHAT THE HELL!? Dropping the flags!? Do you know how many demerits you'd get for dropping any flag, let alone the national flag?

Devan (avatar) was so good at the flute that the band instructor last year was going to make her section leader as a sophomore, whatever that is. Sounds like something seniors usually get, but meh. She moved to Provo so her dad (a 1SG) could teach a senior ROTC unit.
