Ditto is a unique Pokémon, since it can transform into its opponents and borrow their moves (just with a lot less PP).

It's a hard mon to use with the limited PP and weaker stats. So: have any of you guys ever used Ditto? Which game was it, how long did you use it, and how did you find having it on your team? Would you play with it again?

I've used Ditto a lot yeah....for breeding. Lots and lots of breeding

I think it had some sort of niche use in competitive battling at some point, but I don't remember what exactly it was. It's a pretty poor choice for normal playthroughs though.

I used my masterball on ditto as a little kid.

It is kinda neat seeing NPC movesets, so I occasionally like putting one in the party.

I don't like Ditto, hence never bother to catch one. I don't do breeding stuffs, hence that's not the viable case for me.

I had used it in Pokémon Showdown 2-3 years back.

The only niche is that it runs with Choice Scarf and after switching in, it outspeeds Pokémon who don't have Choice Scarf !!

Pretty crazy at times as well.

    🤪 😜

Mainly just for breeding, because that's how I prefer to shiny hunt.

I think it'd be cool to try and use Ditto for a playthrough, but I do think it really needs to be available early-on and be easily obtained with Imposter to really make it useful. And since it's mostly valued as something to help you breed for things once you've completed the game and fill out your Pokedex or obtain shinies, I don't think either of those are something it's going to be able to have.

Aside from breeding there was one time I did use ditto actually, and it was in Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team. I was severely disappointed because in that game transform has 1 PP, and it only lasts for the current floor. You transform into another pokemon, but you gain nothing. No new moves, no new stats, and you are now left with 0 PP. Ditto feels more like a challenge or a cruel joke in Mystery Dungeon, mainly because that means the only move you can use is struggle. Maybe ditto is purposely meant to be a pokemon that tricks you into thinking you recruited a pokemon you wanted, only for it to be a ditto. If so, then that is an evil decision by the developers. Never again would I ever use ditto in any pokemon game outside of breeding.

I used Ditto often during Generation 8, namely in Pokémon Sword. Ditto was a great Pokémon, being one of the very few Pokémon that could counter Zacian, the most broken Pokémon at the time. Ditto has potential to be one of the best revenge killers ever. For instance, when you send out Ditto with the Ability Impostor against Zacian, it transforms into it, copying its base stats (except HP I believe), Ability, and stat changes. Using a Choice Scarf, it is guaranteed to outspeed anything it transforms into (assuming it doesn't have a Choice Scarf of its own), and can one-shot Zacian with a single Behemoth Blade. Ditto is also great for transforming into Pokémon with weaknesses against their own types such as Dragon and Ghost, as well as Pokémon that boosted their stats a lot, which is great for reverse sweeping. As a result, I used Ditto a lot. Nowadays, even though Ditto is still good, it can be countered by the Tera Type mechanic. For instance, if someone plans on sweeping my team with a stat boosted Miraidon, I could bring out my Ditto to transform into Miraidon and KO it with its own Draco Meteor, but my opponent can easily counter this play with a Fairy Tera Type. As a result, I don't often use Ditto this generation for battles, but I still do use my Ditto for breeding.

Nope, and I don't think I ever will. I play the games for the single player experience, so any potentially good niche Ditto could have in competitive is irrelevant to me. I mean:

Asuming I'm even playing a game where the AI bothers doing setup, I'd rather do something to prevent/counter the setup or defeat the Pokémon before it's too late, than let it stack buffs and defeat one of my Pokémon so then I can send Ditto, copy its boosts and sweep the opposing team. Choice Scarf (to make sure Ditto outspeeds) is also not allways easy to find in the games, sometimes it's locked behind post-game. And it also needs its HA to be viable, which depending on the game it might be also difficult to obtain... without that it's wortless.

So it can definitely have its uses, as if you transform into a broken Pokémon... you'll have an broken Pokémon. And I imagine it must feel good to successfully turn your opponent's mass destruction tool against them. But for the single player adventure, it seems like an unnecessarily convoluted and very situational strategy that I can't imagine actually having much use.

I'm sure I probably tried using one in the past because I do like giving underrated 'mons a chance, but the fact that I can't remember is probably proof that it didn't stick around on the team for long lol.
