Fishing is something that was slightly modified, to redone, to being removed entirely in the newest generation.

    Favorite generation to fish in?

Generation 1 and 2, for not having to press a button in time. Sidesteps that mechanic with Sticky Hold and Suction Cups, sure. How often does that happen in a playthrough? Stands a greater chance of wanting to chain-fish to grind experience. Means not wanting to have to pay close attention.

Likes the rippling water and chain-fishing mechanics in the later generations, as a note, but not more than not having to time the button press.

Can't say I've ever thought much about it! I liked fishing a lot more before Gen V just removed the Old and Good rods and only included the Super Rod to keep fishing as this post-game activity, but I ended up completely forgetting Gen VI adding them back in. I had a lot of interest in chain fishing for shinies in XY but never really ended up committing to it. I think the addition of something like Feebas in Gens III and IV as well as the mechanics of something like Suction Cups make fishing a lot more interesting. Fishing in something like Emerald or Platinum was where it was at its best.

I never liked fishing honestly. Especially after playing certain other Japanese RPGs... I don't know what's with their love for fishing and casino mini-games.

I rarely bother fishing in Pokémon games, unless I want a specific Pokémon that can't be found otherwise. The Water types I remember using were mostly caught while surfing on in tall grass. So I'm fine with the latest entries getting rid of this mechanic.

    I understand this sentiment.

Having done fishing in real life since I was 12, video games really struggle at replicating it. I don't want to break my thumb trying to reel the controller.

I'm glad with pokemon that it just involves hitting a button at most.

Fishing is just kinda there for me.
I did not like having multiple rods for the same minigame though, so my fav would probably be any gen that only has one fishing rod.

I like it in gen 5 best! I love the rippling water mechanic because you can get rarer Pokémon that way. That was the only way I could get Gorebyss and Milotic in White 2 after they shut down the DS internet servers. Gen 6 is a close second place, because of chain fishing for shinies! I got a few shinies doing that.

Nah, I'm old school! Gen 1 and Gen 2 fishing methods are easier.

I also liked Gen 5's fishing. Using one single rod for all fishing was so easy.

Whichever game's fishing mechanic was the easiest and simplest.

I just want to hook the damn Pokemon and then battle/capture it and move on. No extra nonsense with trying to correctly time button presses or other complicated nonsense, thank you.
