Female Starters

Female starters are always rarer than the typical males, but I always get male starters when choosing (playing as a girl). But when I choose my starter playing as a male, I usually get females. Maybe starter gender correlates to your own gender, but it's still a game of chance of what gender you're going to get.

I unfortunately fall to mostly getting males as well. The only time I ever got a female starter in a main playthrough was Ruby, my first Pokemon game where I somehow got a female Mudkip. In Black, my collection also includes three female starters - a Feraligatr, Sceptile and Blaziken.

I tend to go for male starters. I like the blue gender icon better than the pink one, and I've also had a hard time breaking the "male Pokemon have better attack IVs" mentality from gen II (even though it hasn't been applicable for years now). The nickname I use for my starters also happens to be male, so it fits better if I have a male starter.

I wonder if things would have been different had I gotten a female starter by chance when starting Gold (before I learned about the attack difference thing). I've never gotten a female starter by chance before on one of my main playthroughs, and I used to just go with whatever I got. Now, I try to get a decent nature or decent IVs for my starter, and I've yet to happen upon a female one that met the other conditions I was looking for. Maybe someday.

I usually get male starters just because they are more common but right now I am playing through Platinum with a female Prinplup that only took....18 times resetting to get :D

Usually I just make do with the more common male variant, but sometimes, if the Pokemon's just really cute...I go for the little female icon, because that too is cute. I mean, if a starter has a gender difference, then I usually try to get both genders in two playthroughs so that I get to experience both, but I don't think many starters have a difference. Only the Torchic line pops to mind.

Even if I do get a female starter, it's not without many resets. =(

whatever you get if u dont SRs for female it mean you need to wait for ditto to be able to breed the starter.

I mostly get males, however there were a few times that I replayed a game and got a female instead. It was just lucky, I guess.

It depends on the species. Pokemon like Feraligatr and Infernape just scream male to me, while I only use female Meganium and Delphox because I just don't see them as male.

Statistically more likely to obtain male starters in any game (87.5% male vs. 12.5% female to be exact). So yes, you are "lucky" if you're intentionally seeking female starters, otherwise you're just on one end of the bell curve. 14 is an incredibly small sample size. If you hatch another 1,000 or 10,000 or a million eggs, by law of averages you'll eventually find yourself closer to the 87.5:12.5 ratio.

I always use female starters, even if I have to reset a million times. Girl Power trumps all. :P

I've always hated that 87.5/12.5 gender ratio, IMO. Aside from the unintentional bias against female players by making it harder for them to start with their own gender, there aren't any species that are 87.5% female-dominated. All of the female-heavy mixed-gender species cap out at 75% (think Clefairy or Jigglypuff).

I usually get male ones which is good for me considering I like most of my starter Pokemon to be male. The only time I like to have female starters if I feel it suits that gender i.e Chikorita, Fennekin ect.

I've always gotten males on my main play throughs, I've always felt bad about not accepting the first Pokemon received, which is totally silly but yeah...

Going through the story I'll usually SR for a female starter but for wilds I'll catch whatever I can get since they're for collecting purposes only. Post game wise when I breed competitive Pokémon and start thinking more of my team I'll mostly go female, except for a specific few that I mostly envision being male. I love female Pokémon. ♥ If breeding weren't in the game I'd love for a feature that made all wilds female lol.

Aside from soft resetting, I rarely get female starters.

My Feraligatr is female though, caught her in Colosseum. Which is nice because I caught her in a Great Ball, which fits with the Totodile line's colors and it passes on to her kids.

Chikorita's gender ratio should be reversed though. Male ones kinda look out of place.
