By all means, this is not going to be a replacement to extensions like uBlock Origin, but the plan is for Google to have integrated ad-blocking techniques for advertisements that are deemed annoying. Examples include advertisements that start automatically with audio/video, ones that stay on the page as you scroll, and ones that pop up.

So, thoughts? Do you think this is a good move by Google? How do you think content publishers are going to fare with this change?

Hell yes! We'll finally see less annoying ads without having to install an extension, in this way websites will have to also pay more attention to ads if they want them to be displayed since they will be blocked by default without the end user even knowing about it.

weird for a company that is serving a large percentage of the ads on the web.
    also firefox master race
While Google does in fact provide a lot of advertisements seen on the web, the advertisements they serve are definitely not intrusive, and webmasters also have control over what ads are displayed on their site too (such as if a bad ad were to show up, they can request Google to pull it).

I hope they fix the really dumb ads that make no sense (like meat ads on a vegan site, or child care products) because half the ads I get are just a waste of money lol

Geez, those are the worst. Google will do a better job at blocking them than some ad-blockers we have around currently, I'm hoping.

I heard that they will just be blocking the ads that are so obtrusive that it disturbs your browsing activity like flashing ads etc. May be unofficial info tho.

It's not weird if you think more carefully. It's obvious that it'll block only the ads that aren't served by Google and the execption which allows Google ads is hard-coded so the users can't change it.

Of course they say that, it's the excuse they use to justify allowing only Google ads, remember that they are never like that.

Finally, an ad-block included in Chrome. Now more go to chrome store and install ad-block plus there and cramp up space. I hope they block youtube ads too and many obscure ads out there

So it's apparently separated from chrome store and this one is bundled as plug-in

Sounds great. As long as the adblock it comes with isn't adblock plus, lol. Not gonna make me switch over, though.

Willing to try it out. I don't mind ads as a rule, but I do mind the annoying ones that hinder my ability or enjoyment of a website.

This is a step in the right direction. They'll probably receive some pushback but then Google is the biggest ad provider so they're not going to care.
