I used to use a dragon as my main ace type every gen.
Is there anything more painful then swapping your main ace type? Yes, but not much.

I had one Dragon on my team at most if I even had one at all.
I often have a Fairy on my team too.

If anything it has made my teams better. It's a hard counter to dragons that isn't weak to them.

Fairy type is pretty broken, especially in generation six, so it honestly made my teams better. Though, I understand why Dragon lovers think it destroyed their team-building.

I only had like five Dragon types across around 30 playthroughs (and one of them was Duralodon which isn't weak to anything Dragons are weak to)

It's my least used type, due to many of them being legendaries/pseudo-legendaries with super high stats but that usually become available too late, grow too slow, and sometimes can't actually reach their final evolution or learn their best moves before the Elite Four. So, Fairy type didn't hurt my team build, if anything it's the added weakness to Fighting and Dark types that caused me more trouble.

I think Fairy was a good addition, and the type chart is better balanced with it (although I believe it could have been better). The idea that "Dragons are the strongest Pokémon" was ok for the first or first two gens, but that gets old quick, and it wasn't good as battling other players became a more prevalent aspect in the games. They still do have the strongest stats overall, but they have one more weakness (and the fact that Dragon is an awful type offensively) to balance things out. Honestly I prefer Dragon being a type just like all the others.

I wasn't terribly fond of the idea of a type whose primary purpose was to counter Dragons at first. Dragon is my favorite type, and it never felt like it was so OP that it needed a whole ass type introduced to balance things out like with Gen 1 Psychic and the introduction of Dark+Steel.

But it worked out fine. Dragons aren't unusable because of Fairies, and you had to deal with answers to Dragons well before Gen 6 anyway. Ice Beam (which is learnable by a lot of Water types and more) has been murdering 4x Ice weak Dragons since the beginning and all that. There's some good Fairy types too. Dragons and Fairies can co-exist.

I'm too lazy to hunt for Dragons since they usually appear so late in games. I build my teams very early on, to the point that I might already have a set of six by the 4th Gym or smth. So no, Fairies affected nothing.

It didn't really do anything for me, because I don't usually use Dragon Types. I generally can't find one that I like, and if I do I don't care enough to add it to my team.
