How often do you use items?

Whether they be in or outside of battle!

I use status-healing items fairly often, especially in more recent games where I feel the status afflictions happen a bit more often to me lol. Otherwise it is healing items occasionally. I also give my team held items pretty much all the time and that is a staple of almost all of my runs, except in games where that isn't possible of course.

    Do you use items often?

I use healing items fairly often when I'm playing, but I rarely give my Pokemon held items; mainly because you don't get many good ones during the main story and a lot of them require tons of grinding.

In the main games i only use items in league and gym battles and sometimes trainer battles. And i only really use potions and status heals

But in PMD i use Blast Seeds alot when fighting storyline battles Luminous Orbs when i get super lost and Petrify Orbs if i end up in a monster house.

I feel dirty when spamming full restores and revives when the A.I is so limited on item usage. If I reach that point it means that I probably went wrong somewhere. Either with my levels or I'm not picking the correct moves. So sometimes I'd rather just take the defeat than resort to that.

Outside of battle I'll use them whenever.

In trainer battles I only use held items.

Outside battle I don't mind using revives, healing or PP restoring items whenever I don't want to waste time going back to a Pokémon Center.

In wild battles, I may occasionally use potions, or things like X Defense / Sp. Def if I'm trying to catch a legendary or something that takes its time.

Restoring one-time use held items after battle in the last games was an amazing decision. Finally I could have fun with stuff like Special attack Flygon holding Throat Spray, without losing the item forever.

Generally, the only items I find worth using in-battle are Hyper Potions, Full Restores, and Revival Herbs/Max Revives, and I usually only use either item type if I'm significantly underleveled (usually in early gen E4 matches since they have steep level curves), or if I'm using a more defensive Pokemon against a trainer that also uses healing items. Nothing else is worth using a turn for.

In-battle: Usually limits it to 3 items per trainer battle, with no X-items or Revives. Weighed whether or not to allow any in Sword or Scarlet, due to the AI not using any. Likely will on the next playthrough of whichever.

Out-of-battle: As needed. Will not heal every boo-boo. Likely heals at around...50% in the wild? Wipes away any status immediately, unless near a Pokemon Center. Also fully heals everyone before a major battle.

Keeps a healthy supply of Repels (usually Super) on-hand for speed-oriented playthroughs. Rarely bothers otherwise.

Held items: Restricts Leftovers to one Pokemon at a time. (Sticks it on every Pokemon otherwise.) Favors Sitrus Berries after that, if freely available. (Tries to keep everyone alive.) Uses damage-boosting items, if not. Occasionally tosses on a status cure berry, if a particular fight calls for it.

In older generations, I'll use a HP-restoring item any time. If I'm trying to level-up a Pokémon and it'd miss out on the EXP by fainting, I'll save it during battle. Same goes for status effects (aside from maybe Poison).
(Sidebar - does anyone else feel like Freeze just happened so rarely back in the day? Nothing but 10% chances to freeze all around. In modern games I feel like I see Pokémon getting frozen all the time lol).

Otherwise, I'll scrape by with items outside of battle.

I tend to hold on to most of my PP-restoring items until the League, as well as my Max Revives. A Max Revive can come in very handy during a tricky E4/Champion battle.

We get money rewards so that we can spend them, hence I don't shy myself from not finishing those money.

Hyper Potion, Full Restore, Revive, Full Heal, PP Up, Protein, Carbos, etc. are the items which I had used consistently. I always keep their stock over 20, as soon as I had got enough money 💰.

In older generations, there used to be items like Power Bracers, Power Anklet, etc. Which I use when I train certain Pokémon in order to mitigate their bad nature and had done max-min method for them. I don't know whether these things exist or not nowadays.

There used to be something called Dowsing Machine, Devon Scope, and things like these which were handy in their own regard.

Exp Share and Lucky Egg were my favorite when leveling up my Pokémon. The Pokémon Company made leveling Pokémon very easy due to Exp All. Not a fan of it as people are not aware of how hard it could be to make Pokémon stronger.

Old Rod was bad, but at least it gave Magikarp and Feebas, hence used it for while! But never felt the need of using good and super rod, because by that time I had already got some better Pokémon hence didn't bothered to waste my time there.

Boosting battle items like Choice Band, Choice Scarf, Assault Vest, etc. are good but I never really felt the need of it as in-game battles are too easy to be making use of those strong held items. Setup sweeping is single simple method to clear the battles. Hence HP restoring things like Leftovers and super-effective attack boosting item like Expert Belt are the one which I had used.

Apart from these, items like Mega stone, Z-stone, Griseous Orb, etc are used by me because these are things which are important in their particular games.

Yes. Made them really accessible in Scarlet/Violet. Cost BP in prior games. Buys them for 10000 Pokedollars now, purchasable before the first badge.

Axed the Macho Brace, though. (Preferred the Power items for targeted stats, but still.)

It depends on the game. I do use healing items pretty often, but mainly at the league. I tend to avoid using them during the story so that i can keep them fornthe hardest battles. There are some semi good items that can be given to my Pokemon, so i do that too. It depends on the games, actually. If i manage to go on without too many issues, then i might even Just give nothing. But usually i give items to boost certain move types or to gain more exp points.
