so I make references to old movies and random topics all the time, and my friends hardly ever get them. Ex. Earlier last week me and a pal were sitting around and I shouted at him "there can only be one!". (Highlander) He then says, "but I'm two" so I asked if he knew what he just did, he responds no. So I walk away, come back with a lightsaber , and proceed to behead him. He should've watch the movie. Am I the only one who appreciates old&obscure referencing these days? Do any of you make references that are not understood? *+1 if you know the title reference*

Most of my references tend to come from popular movies that everyone knows.
    Boo you *****.

Nothing is better than a Mean Girls reference :D

Needless to say, all of mine are from recent movies as well haha.

^ Mean Girls, the best movie to quote from.

My online friend Evking says that there is a crazy autistic boy at his school named Liam. Says he's always hanging around in his algebra class every so often. He just cannot stop quoting movies that he had recently seen. Whatever references he makes, many just don't make sense.

    *ahem*

"I am immortal! Have inside me blood of kings! I have no rival, no man can be my equal!"

    Also,

"I have come here to kick ass and chew bubblegum. . . And I'm all out of bubblegum."

And lastly, I would say that I do, but. . . "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

There would be no point in making a reference that won't follow through as a... conversational device, or whatever.

I don't make a lot of references, but if I do attempt one, no one gets it. After a while I just stopped trying, so I don't so them anymore.

My family and I are always quoting either Firefly or the Austin Powers trilogy. Every time someone farts I re-enact the scene in Goldmember with Fat Bastard wafting and describing the scent of his fart with a Scottish accent. :P

    Oooh, wafting… wafting…!

Ooh, smells like carrots 'n' throwup!
Ohh, that could gag a maggot!
    …Smells like hot… sick… ASS 'n' a dead carcass!

Yu know when yuh go in an a-partment building,
and yu smell uther peeple's cookin on eech floor 'n' ya go
    "Whut 'r' they cookin?"

    That, plus crap.

My mother always replies "You know, you really are a fat bastard!"

    "Yipee-kay-yay mother$@£%er"

well it does happen that I quote movies, but I'm not an avid movie watcher so I don't really know that many quotes at all...

I always end up using doge irl...all it does is annoy people :(

I reference Touhou a lot, but since nobody I know's played it, they all go wut. I reference shows sometimes, but not really. I use memes a lot.

I use quotes from old and new movies and most of my co-workers get them. My most overused quote used to be ''At least make it a challenge for me!'' - Thor xD
I'd even recite the Team Rocket motto and people join in haha...

Now that I'm getting to be an old fart, I'm noticing that a lot of my movie references are getting lost on young people. I mean, I grew up in the 90's, and a lot of 80's movies were still super popular back then. But when I said, "Ha, 'wax on, wax off' much?" (we had to clean this candle that had overflowed or was tipped or something and had to get the wax off) (Karate Kid to you special people) to someone a good six years younger than me and they looked at me like a deer in headlights I felt like I was fifty years older or something.

But I make old movie references all the time. Like one of the things I say all the time is "Ditto" and I'm not talking the Pokémon. One of my favorite older movies is Ghost (1990), and it's an 'in' thing the couple say to each other. Ditto means 'same', 'exactly', 'what they just said', or even 'got ya'.

Let's see, I quote Star Wars at times.

But my favorite quotes come from a lot of 80's movies. Like:

"I'll alert the media." - Arthur

"When somebody asks you if you're a God, you say yes!" - Ghostbusters

"Cape diem boys! Seize the day! Make your lives extraordinary!" - Dead Poets Society

Geez, so many. I can't remember any more.

"If there was someone out there who loved you," --Hans, Frozen

Basically something I reference to everyone, everyday.

    THE IT CROWD YEAH WOOOO

I don't really make many references unless I'm absolutely damn positive the person I'm talking to will get the reference. I can get that paranoid about it lol

I love Mean Girls. Most quotable movie ever.

I'm always making references to movies and shows and pretty much anything. It's sad to say this , but I tend to get more laughs out of people when making references to things than my actual jokes. .-.

@PhantomX0990 I knew what "ditto" meant and I haven't seen Ghost. It's become a pretty universal term for "exactly" or "same here" now.

I love quoting things, but I'm not really sure if I do a lot. It doesn't apply to just movies either, some TV shows are ridiculously quotable, especially cause my BF watches them too.

    QUOTE ALL THE BUFFY!

And Family Guy. And the Simpsons. And Supernatural. And Father Ted. Always Father Ted. <3

I used to love quoting Scott Pilgrim too but I suppose I just haven't seen it in ages so I've stopped that :P

And Mean Girls. Definitely most quotable film ever :)
