Spanish was the only foreign language that was taught at the high school I went to as well. I took Spanish 1 during my Junior year, and Spanish 2 during my Senior year. Also this year, the school district I went to celebrated its 100th year of education.

I thought some degree of foreign language was required in US high school so I assumed you took it?
It's not required per se in high school, but it is required by many colleges and universities for admittance.

I think it varies by state, as well as school - some states require it, and even in the states that don't some schools within them still require it.

My first language is English because I live in England. Even though I have done 10 years of Espanol, I cannot speak fluently. So, I've decided to take matters into my own hands and learn Spanish fluently. I've just started listening to Spanish music and watch Spanish TV shows.

I've mostly been learning English from games and TV, honestly. School helped with some grammar and odd words, perhaps. But mostly I just listened and spoke (inside my head, auggh) and learned, throughout my whole life. Well, from the age of 7 or so at least.

I wish I had kept up with my French better :p

I have been inspired to find a visual novel in French and start to try to read it. I know enough to get the gist of things, but so much vocabulary is just beyond me. I hope it's good!

Did french for two years in High School the only things I can remember are the few swear words my teacher taught me and how to say do you speak english lol

I took French for the two months that I was in public middle school, don't remember a damn thing. Junior and senior year I'm supposedly taking German, which will be interesting, to say the least. I hope to excel~

It's been nearly two years now since I've been out of a Spanish class, and I still can't remember everything I learned, sadly. I can still understand some things, but speaking is another story.

Speaking and understanding a language are two completely different matters IMO
For example I can -understand- Latin and French pretty good, but I can barely form a French sentence and in Latin not at all...

I used to have the same problem, kinda. I can read and speak French...but spelling things correctly? I'd bomb every single time

I think I can spell and pronounce French pretty okay :3 But I've forgotten most of the words I ever knew.

I find self-studying languages way more helpful than just taking classes about them.

I use mainly Rosetta Stone to learn new languages, like Dutch and Spanish.

I've heard a lot of good things about Rosetta Stone.

To bad it costs an arm and a leg, for multilingual people. :I

You can try Pimsleur if you want. It's way cheaper, but it's mostly auditory so it's not that helpful in languages like Greek and Russian.
