...Considering the fact XYZ is focusing on Greninja, would you say Pikachu is becoming a less important Pokemon, anime-wise? Or do you think they'll focus on Pikachu!Ash again in Alola? Discuss.

I really really hope that they focus on PIkachu and Ash again in Alola. While focusing on one of his other Pokemon is great, sidelining Pikachu is not doing justice to 19+ years of friendship. I mean, it doesn't have to be huge things, but small things like little moments between Pikachu and Ash is all I want. We got those during the beginning of XY which is why I didn't complain that it wasn't as there as Unova, but it was still there. Lately though? I feel like the writers just have different priorities. They want to focus on Ash!Greninja to the point that not just Pikachu, but all his Pokemon have p much been sidelined.

Well what are the connections first Greninja gets more spotlight in the anime and then it takes number 1 spot as most popular pokemon. Although considering the fact that Ash always takes Pikachu to a new region it would be strange to say that they are putting Pikachu to the side it must be just for this season. Although don't know why but it gives me the feeling that Ash is going to lose Greninja I mean I know that they surpassed like the after effects of fainting of that "mega evolution" but Ash has left his most strong Pokemons behind (Goodra, Charizard, and Gliscor) like he leaves them on a place to train... I think I just went off topic.

Honestly I never cared much for Pikachu. I think it's kinda fair they show us other Pokemon aside Pokemon.
I mean, generation 1 did focus on Charizard a bit?

Pikachu has been my favourite, not just because its cute, but because it has got a great potential: it is strong enough to beat a mega-evolved Pokémon, and also because I've been watching it since I was three. It is also the mascot of the franchise, and there's no way we could say that it is becoming less important.

Ash's Pikachu is iconic and has great personality that will shine if they bring the Rotomdex into play allowing dialogue with the pokemon. Most of the characters in the show talk about Pikachu as they do Ash.. They complete each other.. and not in a weird way.. they are just a strong duo.

Pikachu is my favorite, but while I don't mind Greninja's spotlight, I think there should be more Pikachu moments again. Not to the point where it ignores others, but there needs to be some balance between spotlighting Greninja, and still caring about Pikachu. Like, in that episode where Ash wanders into the woods because he's depressed, and he doesn't take Pikachu. I understand why he went alone, but that also just felt like them leaving Pikachu out of things for this season. Which is, to put it simply... D:

I think XY and XYZ did ok with Pika, but I liked how all of his pokemon got even spot lights. Noibat.... well..... it kinda got pushed aside for the most part. Ever after it evolved, he didn't show it much.

I really don't care if Pikachu no longer becomes 'THE' pokemon. However, I would love if they brought back Pikachu's Ketchup love and Volt Tackle. I also really miss Pikachu's comedic roles it bad when Ash and his group were talking to someone and Pikachu was just doing its thing. I really don't know why they replaced it with quick attack. I think Electro Ball, Volt Tackle, Iron Tail, and Thunder Bolt would have been an amazing combo.

Like the others said, while Pikachu is getting shoved aside at the moment in favour of spotlight-stealing squad known as Greninja but I'm sure that after that focus period is over and Ash heads to Alola, Pikachu will hopefully be back to his mascot best again.

Barely keeping tabs on the anime at this point but I'm glad other Pokemon are getting a chance to be in the spotlight more. Now if they could only focus on a new trainer...

That overrated Pikachu needs and I say, NEEDS to get sidelined a bit more.
It's only fair to give way to other new Pokemon whilst maintaining it's mighty image.

I just think that they use Pikachu so much that it just becomes predictable after awhile. It just gets to the point where why bother have him catch other Pokemon if Pikachu is just gonna do all the work. Or have his other pOkemon do the work and Pikachu just comes in and finishes everything and gets all the glory. It's just boring after awhile.

Greninja is the best IMO Pikachu is meh

Will never happen. Pikachu is to much of a Mascot to be replaced and Greninja will be Oaked.

Most of the protagonists in the Pokemon manga don't have Pikachu. I fail to see why they can't do that with Ash.

I think Pikachu is only important because he rides everywhere on Ash's shoulder, he gets used in battle sometimes, and Team Rocket is constantly trying to steal him (I firmly believe TR should finally grow some brains and give up on Pikachu, but that's just me). Other than that he's kinda just a figurehead.

That said, Pikachu is still a main character. While the actual of the focus of the episodes is less and less on him, he still helps develop the story quite a bit, sort of like Misty's Togepi did.
