News Jeffrey Epstein dead: Billionaire paedophile ‘takes his own life in prison’

Child abuser Jeffrey Epstein has killed himself, officials said.

The wealthy financier, who was facing child sex trafficking charges involving dozens of girls, took his own life in his Lower Manhattan prison cell.

Epstein hanged himself and his body was found in Metropolitan Correctional Centre in New York on Saturday morning at around 7.30am.

Manhattan federal prosecutors last month charged the 66-year-old billionaire with sex trafficking of girls as young as 14.

Epstein's extensive network of high-profile people in the upper echelons of society reached around the world.

He hosted Bill Clinton at a private Caribbean island called Little St James, and flew Kevin Spacey and Chris Tucker to Africa as part of a humanitarian project. He was an associate of Donald Trump and previously a regular at the US president's Mar-a-Lago club and Prince Andrew is known to have gone on holidays with Epstein up until around 2010.

Epstein was already a registered sex offender after being found guilty of soliciting a minor for prostitution in 2008. He spent 18 months in prison.

The news of his death comes as Prince Andrew was accused in newly released legal documents of groping a young woman's breast at the home of Epstein.

The allegation surfaced in a cache of legal papers unsealed by a US judge in a defamation case involving Ghislaine Maxwell - a British socialite alleged to have supplied Epstein and his well-off social circle with underage girls.

Virginia Giuffre, an alleged victim of Epstein who also claimed she was forced into a sexual encounter with Prince Andrew, sued Ms Maxwell in 2015.

In the legal documents, released on Friday, Johanna Sjoberg, another alleged Epstein victim, said Prince Andrew touched her breast while sitting on a couch inside Epstein's Manhattan flat in 2001. Buckingham Palace has insisted the allegations about the Duke of York are "categorically untrue".

Epstein was facing fresh charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy and was due to potentially stand trial next year.

The new charges laid against Epstein concern trafficking allegations involving dozens of minors from 2002 to 2005 allegedly carried out in Florida and New York. Epstein's lawyers said they should be wiped as the new legal action backtracks on a plea agreement which saw him admit his 2008 charge in return for immunity from future allegations.

Epstein had previously been relocated to a suicide-watch unit after being found unconscious in his jail cell with marks on his neck on 23 July - a week after his bail request was rejected.

Nobody is going to mourn his death but If I may put my tinfoil hat on for a moment I'll just say that a lot of rich and famous people could've been in trouble if he opened his mouth.

I didn't want to follow the Jeffrey Epstein case closely because the content of human trafficking made it so horrible and disturbing, so sordid that I didn't want to dwell on that kind of imagery. But when folks asked me about this trial I said cynically that he wasn't going to make it to his judgment day in court, he sounded like he knew too much and an unlucky fate would befall him first. I am unnerved now to hear this story really did end in circumstances that sounded ike a plot in an Agatha Christie novel. A criminal with ties to politicians, entertainers, billionaires and royalty dies a sudden violent death before they can stand trial where Lord knows how much dirty laundry could have aired, and it has been accepted as suicide before there has even been time to complete the autopsy? No, *shakes head*
Epstein never struck me as remorseful or ashamed of his crimes. On the contrary, he seems like a narcissist and the way he has weaseled out of charges and clung to survival for years only makes me raise an eyebrow higher in suspicion.

He would have exposed so much hollywood pedophilia, I'm suspicious too.

No one is going to miss his sorry ass.

^This. The guy was a monster and suspicious circumstances or not the world is a little better place now.

Can't say I'm sad he was a monster. Can't say I'm surprised either. I didn't follow his trial extensively, but I know his paper trail was big so I'd totally believe he could have had exposed the thousands of pedophiles and sexual predators in Hollywood. It wouldn't seem to far fetched to me if he killed himself cause he couldn't live with all the secrets he knew , but I'd also believe it if it was all set up to cover up. In the end, I'm just not sorry he's gone. Good riddance actually. Another monster of the world gone hopefully in Hell where he belongs.

I definitely think it's a cover up. It's absolute bs if the story dies down because of this. I'd be happy about it if he was the only one... But be wasn't. And I don't believe it for a bit that he killed himself.

Also iirc suicide watch isn't particularly confirmed. He was taken off a few days ago? Unsure of this info.

On the bright side, there's still avenues to pursue. As long as the case moves faster than the killers.

I understand everyone is relieved or happy that he is dead, but it's also important to remember his victims wanted their day in court to stand up to him or atleast see him face justice.

The only shame is that any other elites who potentially abused these girls will probably get away with it.

That too. He got off easy on top of not naming anyone else who took part in this stuff.

I can understand so many thinking it isn't a suicide, I have seen claims of everything from President Clinton, to President Trump, to Attorney General Barr, to the Russians. However as a good rule of thumb I would suggest putting all theories through the test of "a secret too big to keep".

Anyone that ordered the hit would have had to pay off dozens of employees from the guards at the gate, to the guards watching him, since there is an investigation that means none of these people could have the money appear in their bank accounts or buy anything lavish without tipping off investigators.

They would have had to erase any evidence of them being there including video cameras from the prison and surrounding streets, as a suspicious car leaving in the middle of the night would be caught on traffic cams in the area.

Most likely they would also have to pay off all the medical examiners or atleast the one they knew was going to do an autopsy of the body, they would also have to pay off the medical examiner that the family buys for the second autopsy, as it's doubtful they will just take the word of the first one.

Not to mention there was no guarantee that Epstein didn't have a dead man's switch, as in a release of documents upon his death that would implicate those who would most want him dead.

Those are just a couple of things off the top of my head that would have to happen for a hit in a federal prison in solitary confinement were to happen.

Wait, why did they take him off suicide watch? Didn't he try to 'hang himself' last month?
Supposedly after about a week on the watch he was taken off of it because the prison staff thought he was "no longer a threat to himself", but I don't know what made them think that.

The news is also now saying that he did not have a cellmate in the days prior to his death and that on the day he died, the guards did not regularly check in on him, despite the fact that having a cellmate for cases like him and regular check-ins are standard procedure for the prison.

I don't know how to feel about this. I know most people are suspicious but if it really was suicide that just makes me sick to my stomach. I don't approve of his crimes but hearing about people taking their own lives always makes me feel sick. I can't imagine what he could've been thinking, especially since this would've been his second attempt. I just... oof. I'm not sad to see him gone but I feel awful that suicide is how he went.

I don't like to jump to conspiracy theories right away. Having been on the other side that usually has to deal with the theories, I know how damaging they can be. Given this was his second attempt, it doesn't seem that strange to me other than the fact that he was taken off of suicide watch after only a week. Maybe it was a cover up, I'm not sure. I don't intend to dwell on that fact. Especially when it's possible we can gather some of the information from his victims.

That said I hate that he won't be able to stand trial for his actions. I didn't care about what it could potentially expose, I cared more about his getting due justice for his actions, and now that won't happen, which absolutely sucks.

What an unfortunate and completely believable shame that the CCTV wasn't working and that somehow on suicide watch he managed to hang himself despite belts etc not being allowed on suicide watch. But we should stop these silly claims, Epstein acted entirely alone, just like Oswald, and the rich, multinational paedo ring containing Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew and many others 100% absolutely had nothing at all to do with his mur....suicide. La Li Lu Le Lo.

I mean, high risk prisoner with a "suicide" attempt already under his belt taken off suicide watch, left without a cell mate, not checked up on by guards, CCTV "issues" and dirt on Prince Andrew, Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, all of whom regularly flew on the Lolita express and/or spent time with Jerry and all of who have an immense scope of influence. It's not a wild conspiracy really.

He says he has a source saying the cameras "malfunctioned" on the night of the death. There's nothing confirming it yet, but no one from the prison has officially denied this claim.
