The title is pretty self-explanatory, but who are some of your least favourite characters from the Pokémon universe? Can be either from the anime, games, etc. You can include extremely minor characters who made singular appearances, or reoccurring characters whose contributions were seemingly endless.

Iris is the first character that comes to mind for me. I never cared for in the BW anime as I found her to be unbearably annoying. However, I was fond of her in the games.

The title was actually confusing at first because it has a typo that says "leave" instead of "least."

I liked Iris a lot because she was probably one of the few characters, if not the only character, that constantly called out Ash on badly he sucked. I know Misty did it sometimes, but not enough times. She's also Ash's strongest companion ever because she managed to become a Champion, in both the games and anime. Her immaturity is what made her funny to me. When I think about it, she might actually be my favorite character in the entire series. Iris wasn't without funny moments.

As for my least favorite character, well, it's probably Ash himself. In my opinion, Ash is probably one of the worst protagonists ever. Throughout almost the entire Pokémon anime, he's been a big loser when it counted the most. It took him over 20 years to win a championship in a major Pokémon League. Practically every other protagonist, especially in anime, wins the big matches, fights, or battles that count the most. Ash, instead, only wins the small battles that matter the least, such as against Team Rocket every episode, random trainers on routes, or a character for the day. Ash is also one of the worst Pokémon trainers ever too. Ash literally goes into battles constantly with horrible type matchups and he boxes every Pokémon that has helped him significantly in the Pokémon League. For instance, his Kingler in the first season won a good amount of battles for him in the Pokémon League, but after that, we've never heard from Kingler again. He should have just won the Pokémon League in the first season and been replaced the next season.

Yes, haha, I corrected it! Sorry about that, I was quite sleep-deprived when I initially drafted this thread to be quite honest.

See, I have quite a polarizing opinion. I found her constant nagging to be immensely irritable, to the point where I nearly swore off the BW anime due to my disdain of her. Even the sound of her voice, to my ten-year old self was like nails upon a chalkboard, a most horrific sound. I just didn't care for her personality, as I don't really particularly favour people who complain excessively, especially considering none of her criticism was overly constructive. I mean I would say that I don't think the BW anime was well-written in any regard overall, and I will agree that Ash certainly seemed to have mentally regressed during the BW series for whatever reason. Of course, my dislike of her has waned significantly as I am an adult, and as aforementioned, I thought Iris made a fabulous gym leader/champion in the games.

Another character that I dislike on a personal level was Paul. He treated his Pokémon like tools and was quite cold towards them (Chimchar in particular). He also was a massive jerk in every sense of the word. However, he was undoubtably one of Ash's best rivals, if not the best. He was an excellent strategist and really pushed Ash to better himself continuously. Eventually, Paul did show growth over the DP/Pt series, which also was lovely to see. So I can't say I really dislike Paul at all, he was a phenomenal character, just a complete turd at times. I thought it was perhaps worth mentioning!

Yes, Iris definitely was a fabulous character in the games. However, in my opinion, I don't think I can pick a character that I disliked in the games. They're all pretty much solid. As for Iris and such, it's almost like different female travel companions for Ash served some sort of role. Misty seemed to be a potential love interest, as she seemed to have a crush on him to a degree without being able to admit it, and did offer a lot of (constructive) criticism at times, along with a lot of roasts. May seemed to take the role of being like a sister to him. Dawn seemed to have a similar role that May did. Iris, on the other hand, seemed to be that character that basically said a lot of the things that the fans were actually saying. Ash indeed was way off his game in Unova and she seemed to be the only person to call him out on how bad he was.

As for her personality, she just seemed like the type of friend that plays around too much, to where it can annoy you, but you're still close friends. I have had friends like that growing up. Yet, the main thing that I like about Iris is that she is probably is the best example of perseverance in the anime, probably next to Ash himself finally winning in Alola. Iris constantly said that she was going to train up Axew to evolve into the Haxorus that it dreamed of becoming. She did exactly that. She said that she was going to do whatever it took to become a Dragon Master. She did exactly that. Not only did she become Champion with her dragons, but she also reached the level where she can literally connect with them and feel their pain. Even in the games, she leveled up. She went from being a Gym Leader that was training under Drayden to being a full-fledged Champion. All throughout, in the anime, she did it all and was revealed to still have that same immature personality, meaning that, despite her success, she never changed who she was. To me, that's actually inspiring. Lol Much love for Iris, much love for gen V, much love for Unova!

As for Paul, I didn't like Paul either. I believe that Paul was a way for the show to parody competitive battlers. Either way, Paul came off as a Pokémon abuser to me. He seems like the type of trainer that could teach all his Pokémon Frustration and have them use it at full power. He was also extremely arrogant and never cracked a single smile. I hated him.

Also, in Pokémon the Movie: Kyurem vs. the Sword of Justice, Keldeo was so annoying, stubborn, and obnoxious to the point where I was rooting for Kyurem to keep kicking his butt.

keep in mind i'm saying this from a games pov. she may have been portrayed in a more favourable light in the anime, but it really didn't sit well with me when she showed up a maximum of maybe twice in the entirety of X/Y, with no indication whatsoever that she was remotely relevant enough to be a region champion.

i don't even actually hate her or anything, but X/Y certainly didn't do her any favours or, as far as i'm aware, added any sort of background to her character or anything. just. she appeared and disappeared and appeared again in the pokemon league. :|
