I used to be pretty uncomfortable with this but nowadays I don't mind at all. :) Most of my online friends know me by my real name, though my last name is something I'll never reveal.

That's exactly what I find frustrating. People would use it despite my username which I would understandably use because I prefer it.
Mainly, there's simply no reason to know my real name if one has something else to call me anyway. I like having multiple names.

At the least, I only tell my short version of my name because my real one is too difficult for many other people to pronounce. That, and also it is more comfortable for me.

Nobody online knows my real name. I go by various forms of my username, or Jess (which is an offline nickname). I don't like my name, so even if I were less paranoid...just, no.

I don't use my username Corvidae here for anything else and I would change it to daigonite if I could, just because I used that username more on other sites and prefer it.

My real name is Rachel and I don't love or hate it. It just is.

I'm pretty open with my life but I try to limit what I tell people. First name? Sure. Second name? Can't hurt. Last name? Far too unique to divulge and could be used to track me down on Facebook and see things that you have no business seeing.

With my real name (Brendan) being so close to my username, I have no real problem if people know what my name is, or even referring to me by it. I don't know how I'd feel if I had a less obvious username, but I doubt I'd feel any different about others knowing my first name than I do now.

I keep my real, name private unless people knew me personally. Megan is the name people should call me everywhere online. I get really paranoid when people call me by my real name in the online public.

We all have our identities on PC. For the most part, our username is what we go by online, and shows everyone a little about ourselves. That being said, our usernames are usually not our real names though they can be!.

That being said, how comfortable are you with sharing your real name on a forum like PC? Is there a reason as to why you are or aren't comfortable with sharing?



Personally, I feel like I'm known more by my actual nickname, Dipu, than my username Vertigo, or my old one Bloodex. I'm open about it because I feel a more personal bond between the people here when I use my real name, and I always try to call other people by theirs, if they're willing to share. =D

When I saw your username + this threat's title, I instantly thought of John Constantine.

I tend to avoid sharing my real name, because it's a weird name for people who doesn't speak portuguese. A few people call me by my real name, but most people call me Loki.

I was 10 when I joined PC. And it was like "ok well mom said not to tell people your name" and whatever else in 2004. I never liked my real name anyway so I just... shortened it. Finally got people to call me by a nickname, which they refused to do offline. Became known to everyone as Anna. That's my name now, really. I still don't share my last name publicly because I mean you just don't. My first and middle names are Savannah Skye, but I'm Anna, alright?

Of course I don't mind sharing my first name here, since it's obviously in my username! However, with a large forum like this, I'm not very comfortable sharing my surname.

If I could make up a proper alias, I'd have people call me that instead of my real name. The reason isn't because I don't want people to know it (it is khalil) it's more the fact that a lot of people can't pronounce it.

That being said, I use my real name all the time online, even if it was my username, most people think it isn't my real name. I've settled with Khawill on everything because I find it isn't a username that is taken, and it is easy to remember.
