Nintendo Switch 2 Direct

I'm most looking forward to Pokémon Colosseum and XD being finally accessible on the Gamecube Virtual Console.
I totally missed the Colosseum/XD train, and physical discs are so very expensive nowadays.
I am excited to finally get on it.

oh my god yes!! I honestly thought TPCi was trying to pretend those games didn't exist at this point. This is such amazing news tbh.

There was little of interest to me in the Direct, but that's what I was hoping for honestly. I have a lot to play (some already out, some not) this year on currently existing platforms and didn't really need temptation to buy a whole new console and additional games on top of that. It's good for me that Legends ZA and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are merely getting graphical updates for their Switch 2 versions, for example. Duskblood existing and apparently being a Nintendo exclusive was unexpected, but I need to know more about it, it could be something worth getting, it might very much not be.

Elden Ring getting ported to Switch 2 was something I was expecting though, but I don't feel the need to get that right now since there doesn't seem to be anything of value at the moment, the only new things I saw in that trailer was what was maybe a Torrent skin and either Lucatiel herself and/or her equipment set. Chances are there'll be a little more than that, but almost certainly not enough to justify dropping the money for a game I already have.

Was not dazzled by anything. Looks great and all. Simply lacked a lot of interest in the games shown.
  • Chat and camera: Never using those.
  • Game Share: Nice for multiplayer. Depends how many games allow that.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour: Sounded like a great pack-in game that acts as an interactive manual. Costs money to get, though. Who is going to buy that?
  • Mario Kart World: Seems great for kids especially with the free roam mode. Sees nothing wrong with it. Played plenty of Mario Karts before, though.
  • Game Updates: Nice for Switch 1 game buyers. Suggests snapping up Switch 1 games quick. Might be cheaper to get the Switch 1 game + upgrade. (Probably too late already.) Hopefully stays in a reasonable price range.
  • Gamecube games: A good lineup. Appreciates seeing Path of Radiance in there. (Figured it would be, given other Fire Emblems available.) Wants to buy the games, not rent them. Remains uninterested until that becomes an option.
  • Kirby Air Riders: Never played the original. Heard it was good. Showed no gameplay to be interested in.
  • Cost: Guessed $350 beforehand, maybe $400. Seems a bit high. Never cared tons about graphics upgrades, to be fair.

So nobody wants to call out how Nintendo is trying to get game prices to jump up to as much as $20?

I DO NOT want to EVER see this BS about how 'Nintendo should run the gaming industry as a monopoly' ever again.

How many times must this be stated before it gets through? NO. GAME CONSOLE COMPANY. IS PERFECT. And that includes your precious Nintendo.

But clearly I'm the dumbass and asshole here. Clearly. Absolutely.

Spoiler: XKCD 2071: Indirect Detection

Who's even calling for this in the first place? I certainly don't see anyone arguing in favor of a game console monopoly here on PokeCommunity.

I guess I'm just a fanboy but I really enjoyed just about everything in the direct and am super excited for the launch! The console price is pretty much what I expected, and probably actually a bit cheaper than I expected, seeing how Sony priced their PS5 Pro. Not a huge fan of the game price increase, but it's not a dealbreaker for me, especially if the games are really good and I'm likely to put dozens and dozens of hours in, like I imagine I will with Mario Kart World.

Didn't expect a FromSoftware exclusive, that was a bit of a shock, though.

I wasn't that impressed by the Direct. I was never hyped for Switch 2 that much, so that might be why it kept me cool most of the time. It feels like Nintendo picked franchises and series I have mostly no interested in like Mario Kart or Kirby Kart or Zelda Dynasty Warriors spin-off, to showcase, so I couldn't get excited about anything. Third party games on the other hand were exciting. FromSoftware exlusive looks incredible. We also finally got something new about Silksong. I'm glad more third party games are coming to Switch 2, despite already owning most of them on PC.

The console itself looks like a great upgrade. I don't think I'll buy it on launch, but might get it later. It feels like the first Switch is enough for me right now. I'm interested to see more about the mouse mode. Couldn't care less about C button and chat, tho.

I thought it was a pretty good direct. Super excited for Colo / XD, MKW looks epic, Kirby Air Riders (loved the original), and Duskbloods looks interesting. I probably won't get a Switch 2 for a bit, but excited to see what else is in store for it.

I was excited until I saw the price ranges for the games.

$80 for a digital title is insulting, and $90 for what is essentially an eShop gift card is straight-up obscene.
Though, I do appreciate the inclusion of rare GameCube titles to screw over scalpers on eBay.
I think as it stands, a physical XD and Colo disc is already half the cost of the Switch 2.

This. The GameCube titles may be the only thing worth the purchase of a switch 2 because of online play, but I really wish Nintendo gave us the option to purchase the games outright rather than keeping it a subscription service. It would replace my hacked Wii entirely if that option existed because you can also experience online play without the hassle like with dolphin on PC.

I might have been excited for Colo and XD... if I didn't already own a working Gamecube and functioning game discs for both games. Finished playthroughs of both within the past year, in fact (thank God for having two working GCN memory cards too lol)

Otherwise, I didn't see anything game-related announced that would have me racing out to pick one up on launch day. Which is to say, no cute anime-style games. Kinda the same case for the OG Switch, which I didn't pick up till over a year after its initial release date, after finally finding a game I actually wanted for it (in that case, it was Atelier Lulua.) For me, there's really no point in buying a new console if I don't have any games to play for it (or, in this case, if there's nothing on it that my current console can't also play) - doesn't matter how powerful it is.

Not buying the camera accessory, there's no way I'm using my ugly IRL face as my avatar lol

The only Nintendo exclusive that caught my eye was the Hyrule title, but I don't know if I'll have a switch 2 by this winter. Disappointed that they are overcharging for some titles as I was expecting it to be $70 across the board for AAA Nintendo titles, but shocked to see that they are charging $80 for some titles. As for the Switch 2 itself, I had no issue with the initial price of $449.99, but to see it now possibly be more because of the market situation also might make it a not so pleasing option.

I'm more excited to see what's left for the Switch 1 than anything from the Switch 2 honestly. I don't think I'm going to be able to pick up a Switch 2 for a long time. Some of my favorite games for the 3DS came around the transitional period between that console and the Switch, and with the Switch having a bigger install base I'm assuming it's going to be getting a similar level of support if not more. Hopefully we get some good stuff for a little while before they move on to the Switch 2 completely. Third parties and western devs specially are probably looking to move over as soon as possible, given the improved specs, but I'm expecting Nintendo to still have a few games left in them, and maybe some other publishers like Square as well.

It is the end of an era though. makes me kinda sad, in a way. The Switch was kind of a game changer for Nintendo coming from the Wii U and 3DS generation, and while it ended up being a huge success for them, and being a pretty amazing console altogether, part of me still misses some of that more quirky, experimental streak Nintendo had going before it, with smaller more portable games that always felt like they were punching way above their weight. And now even the Switch era is going to quickly become a memory just like that. I'm hoping they try and recapture some of the magic of the Wii U and 3DS era with this new generation, without any of the fumbles of course, even if they're probably going to be prioritizing continuity with the Switch 1 in most ways, given how big of a success that was.

First TV commercial for this is beginning to air. It aired for me while I was watching WrestleMania 41, Night 1.

I'm not out here claiming or stating it aired during that first... but it does make me question how much they had to cough up to WWE to air there.

Either way Mario Kart isn't worth $80 🫥
