The dead are rising. Much of the world is in chaos as leaders and scientists across the globe have given up hope and declared global emergency. Most major countries and continents are overrun with the infected as airports and ports fall victim to panic and mass infection, trapping millions upon millions in large cities like Los Angeles and Chicago. The undead roam the streets of these iconic cities, searching for the next living victim to their slaughter. Many remain hostage to the horde, unable to flee or find sustenance. You are not one of these people. Through everything, through the chaos and the killings and the loss of friends and family, you survived.

It has been several weeks since the outbreak began and you find yourself in Brookings, Oregon. Population: 6,374. A small coastal town famous for its views, access to Chetco River, and its friendly demeanor. The town became a safe haven for fleeing survivors from California and Portland, a few hundred miles north. Before long, however, those seeking to gain from the outbreak arrived and the town became as dangerous as any other.

The dead now roam the streets, as well as dangerous gangs and groups looking to prey on the weak.

Brookings is the only town for many miles and forests surround the town, as well as the dangerous and turbulent ocean. No matter how you got here, this is your new home and it's either survive or die. Or worse.

Are you ready for the outbreak?

It Begins

This world is based in reality, and as such, your character should be a flawed, regular human being who makes mistakes. People will get hurt, infected, and die. If your character is pulling a few too many god-mode actions, I may privately poke you about it. Let's try to be fair to the Outbreak world and your fellow players!

All actions are dependent on your attributes and how many points you allocate to each one. Items have weight, how far you can travel depends on your stamina, and if you have to talk your way out of a sticky situation, you better hope you've got charisma.

This is a journey roleplay of sorts. The game map (of Brookings) is above and will also be in the IC thread. Utilize this map to determine your location, travel as you may, and establish bases alone or with other survivors. Please refer to the MAP section for specifics on the map and how to best utilize it!

As this is a journey roleplay, we will begin with a limited portion of the map and expand outward to more dangerous areas. The current Locations you can access are listed above in the Locations section, as well as in the IC thread.

There will be events throughout the game and certain portions of the map contain more dangerous areas, better loot, and other obstacles. Phase posts (by the GM) will occur in a Day/Night cycle, so you will either be roleplaying in an in-game day or an in-game night. Status effects and various other challenges will be presented in these posts, which will allow for a dynamic experience. Please try to be consistent with your updates and postings. I will contact you about your status if you seem to be falling behind.

Capt. Timothy McGregor

Hometown

Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America

History

Spoiler: Pre-Outbreak One
Timothy McGregor was a military man during the Cold War where he was deployed to Angola where the US was engaged in a proxy war against communist forces. It was experience that greatly affected the young McGregor, he grew to become sterner and more regimented, he learned to think quickly despite his average intellect and above all else he began to develop strong ideas about "right and wrong". During his service McGregor earned a Good Conduct Medal, Soldier's Medal and Valorous Unit Award (along with the rest of his unit) and developed a strong respect for chains of command.

Upon his return from Angola, Timothy served from within the US for a few more years before leaving the military. Shortly after he moved to Las Vegas. McGregor spent the next few months working odd jobs to found himself whilst he trained at the academy to become a police officer. This was a stressful and tremulous time in McGregor's life and so he often spent his free time around bars and casinos developing alcohol and smoking habits. He was careful to maintain a balance though, he was never drunk when he worked or at the academy.

Tim spent his next few years after graduating walking a beat, like most police do. However he had learned the values of hard work through his time in the military so he began to move up in the ranks until he was able to earn his place as a homicide detective. At first Tim took the new placement in stride, in fact he enjoyed his work so much that he smoked and drank less. Over the next several years Timothy McGregor was in his prime, he earned many distinctions for his tireless efforts, work ethic and his high success rate. It came as no surprise then when he received a string of promotions and eventually rose to the rank of a Lieutenant. During this time of success Timothy managed and had his first child. Life was good.

Timothy had only a few men under his rank when he was in the military, he was uncustomed to holding as much power and responsibility as he did. The stress began to get to him and he soon returned to his habits of drinking and smoking to manage his stress. As work continued to take a toll on him, his life at home suffered. He argued with his wife and his child grew distant from him, when he wasn't working he was almost always drunk and he was rarely home.

Timothy threw himself into his work harder than ever, trying to keep away from his struggles at home. During this time Tim's captain retired and he was promoted to fill his place, his workload and responsibility increasing as he struggled to hide from the challenges in his life. This only lead to him becoming more and more stressed and his relationships becoming more strained.

A particularly trying case threw Timothy over the edge, a series of terrible murders had occurred and the police – including Timothy – were completely stumped. More and more people died and several police were killed before the culprit was apprehended. Tim couldn't handle the stress; he couldn't handle his doubts and remorse. He sunk deep into alcoholism; he was never home, he was constantly drunk; he had hangovers at work that made it hard for him to concentrate. During this time his wife left him, taking their child. McGregor sank into a deep depression as a result.

A few months later Timothy realised that he had to deal with his problems if he wanted to fix his life and repair his relationships with his ex-wife and his daughter. He took an indefinite leave of absence from work, using the considerable amount of paid leave he'd amassed and decided to travel. He used this time to relax, to study and to improve upon himself. Not long after he returned to work and now finding he could handle the stress planned a second trip. It would drain he last of his leave, but that wasn't important to Tim.

When the outbreak hit, Timothy cashed in his remaining leave early. He'd been intending to visit his ex-wife and his daughter but now he was going to ensure their safety. Unfortunately whilst he was waiting for his connecting flight, the outbreaks intensified and he was forced into the plane heading for the shelter by the military, although he'd struggled as much as he could it was hard to argue with a machine gun. Now in his fifties Timothy McGregor has found himself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse without his gun, with his authority all but gone and no knowledge of his family's fate.

Spoiler: Outbreak One and After
McGregor and several others ran into even worse luck than they expected when as it turns out several people on the plane had been infected. Everything turned to chaos and the plane ended up crashing not far from a small settlement of survivors lead by an ex-military man. The settlement rescued those that didn't die during the crash and following frenzy and took them in.

Over the next short while, McGregor and his fellow survivors settled in to the settlement and begun participating in maintaining it and on missions to retrieve supplies, often coming into contact with the infected or with looters. Although he still intended to find his ex-wife and his daughter, McGregor settled into a semblance of complacency. He befriended a few of his fellow crash-survivors: a pair of dependable men named Mark and Denis and a fiery but smart teenage girl, Alex. However, things took a turn for the worse when during a supply gathering mission the settlement group encountered a group of violent rogue soldiers and a horde of zombies.

During the mission, the attention of both enemy groups was attracted and both Mark and Alex died at the hands of the horde whilst the remainder of the group fled with the soldiers in pursuit. They tried retreating behind the defenses of their shelter, however the enemy group broke through easily and killed many, forcing everyone else to abandon the shelter of their home and run. Unfortunately, several of the soldiers continued to hunt the group down and eventually most of them were killed or separated away. Of the three of his fellow survivors he was closest to, McGregor lost two and has no idea what has become of Denis.

During the time they were fleeing the militant group, McGregor found himself somewhat bonding with another of the survivors, a teen going by JJ. The two were drawn together by a combination of coincidence and mutual loss, in particular over the shared loss of Alex. Split off from what was left of the shelter survivors during an attack by a group of rival looters, the two ended up hijacking a car and driving off in the direction of Brookings. It wasn't an easy roadtrip however as part way the vehicle broke down forcing them to continue the rest of the way on foot.

Having recently arrived in the town, McGreogr and JJ are looking to find somewhere they can set up a more permanent residence. McGreogr has all but given up his hopes of finding his family at this point and has come to view his younger companion as something as a surrogate for them and/or Alex, although the two frequently have clashes of personality.

Attributes

3 Strength - Despite having put on a fair few pounds since moving to the desk, Timothy had retained a lot of his physical strength, especially since he took up weights during his soul searching. Forced into a survival situation, this is still very much the case if not more so.

3 Intelligence - Tim is no genius, but he's got a good deductive mind that's been trained through his work and a wealth of knowledge relating to his previous occupations and areas of study. He's starting to get a pretty good grip on zombie behaviour too.

2 Agility - Tim might be quite strong and be trying to get healthier, but he's still put on a fair bit of weight since he was younger and he still smokes heavily. He can put out sudden bursts of speed but his stamina is much lower than it once was and he's slower now that he can't breath as clearly and is carrying more weight.

2 Charisma - Tim has a tendency to be rather blunt and occasionally a bit gruff. He's not a bad guy and he's not hated, but he's not the most lovable guy around either.

Outbreak 2 SU Boogaloo

Ryan%20Michaels_zps7abn7qcw.png~original

NAME:
Jake "JJ" Johnson

HOMETOWN:
Portland, Oregon

HISTORY:
JJ was never the buffest kid on the block. He was always the indoor kid. Staying in his basement room and reading, he hardly even noticed when the world was going to hell. That is of course before the screaming of his mother caused him to run upstairs and find the neighbor with his teeth six inches into her neck and a kitchen knife even deeper into his side.

Grabbing a frying pan off the wall he was able to knock the creature away and drag his heavily bleeding mother out to the car. It wasn't even three blocks down the road before the gargle of undeath began to emanate from his mother's throat and her swiping claws caused him to crash the car off the side of their hillside road.

How he ended up in the survivor's camp with McGregor and Alex was a blur. He was pretty sure he had picked up the tire iron from the wreck and bashed his mother's face in at some point, as the nightmares of that specific scene were pretty consistent. However, while at the camp he grew fond of Alex and McGregor. The former of which he had heard tales of her perishing in the burning store. This event had saddened him greatly, and he could see how much it was weighing on the old man. They bonded quite a bit, especially after the soldiers attacked the camp and forced them to flee.

HOW DID YOU ARRIVE TO BROOKINGS?
After escaping the rogue soldiers that attacked his previous home by using his brains and his comrade's soldier's intuition, JJ and his ally managed to hijack a beat up old car and drive some ways south before running out of fuel. Walking the rest of the way on foot, the duo soon found themselves nearing the town of Brookings, Oregon.

ATTRIBUTES:
STRENGTH – 1 (Can carry 30 weight)
JJ is not the kind of kid to have ever lifted a weight in his life. Sure, he can carry himself around and maybe haul some groceries in, but put any actual stress on his body and he'll crumple to the floor in seconds.

STAMINA – 2 (Can travel to and freely roam ANY sector in your current zone, and can return to your home sector at the end of the phase)
He isn't completely out of shape though. After all, running from zombies isn't that different from running track. Which he did do as his required sport during high school. So hey, he's pretty glad he didn't pick football like his father had tried to pressure him into doing.

CHARISMA – 3 (Can speak to, calm, and negotiate with Level 3 NPCs)
What he lacks in physical attributes, he makes up for in personality. JJ was always popular with the other kids. Maybe it's his almost singsong voice, or maybe he always knows just what to say. Regardless, kid could almost talk one of the walking dead out of eating him. Almost.

INTELLIGENCE – 4 (Can learn how to craft or design from Level 4 Books)
Straight A's is helpful, even in the apocalypse. JJ knows his periodic table by heart, can do moderate algebra all in his head, and can name every planet from Star Wars by heart. He knows his shit. Oh, and knowing that getting sodium wet is super fun.

Jeremy Collins

Ex-Mayor of Mena, Arkansas// 38 Years Old

HISTORY

Abigail and Jeremy Collins were high school sweethearts, and both presided as members of the student council retaining the positions of Student Council President, and Vice-President for three of those four years. Immediately following their graduation, Jeremy announced to his fellow students and his lover that he would be running for mayor of their city the following year. After months of campaigning, Jeremy finally won the elections and took his seat as the youngest ever mayor of Mena, and shortly thereafter pronounced his undying love for Abigail and asked for her hand in marriage. The two eloped after the end of his first term, taking two years to themselves in order to get to know each other to the best of their abilities and decide if they truly wanted to pursue their careers in politics.

After returning from their hiatus, Abigail chose to run for mayor of Mena while Jeremy moved on to an attempt at governor - both Collins' having decided during their time away to continue on their original career paths. Abigail was successful in her attempt, while Jeremy lost out on his position by nearly ninety-percent. Taking the hit in strides, Jeremy settled for falling in behind his wife as her secretary until the next elections. Four years passed, and in that time they conceived twin boys named Ronald and Jacob.

At the end of Abigail's term as mayor, she attempted to run for governor in opposition of her husband - a little bit of friendly competition, or so they thought. Abigail pulled ahead of her husband and also the previous governor to assume the position, leaving her husband to take on the position of her secretary once more. The humiliation of defeat did not however deter Jeremy, in fact it only pushed him to try and achieve greater things - however, they fell flat.

At the end of Abigail's first term as governor, she chose to run again - once more outpacing her husband and deepening the gap between them. Jeremy took on the position of lieutenant governor and over the course of the next four years began to harbor disdain for, and grew distant from his wife because of her success. Halfway through their final term in office, Jeremy and Abigail filed for divorce. They had grown to dislike each other, and slowly but surely all of the love left their lives.

The month after their boys' fifteenth birthday, the couple separated and promised the summers of the children to their father. The couple's summer home, to which they had once eloped was kept under joint ownership - allowing for Jeremy to revisit it in the summers and Abigail to reside there in the winters. Ronald and Jacob remained in the summer villa, home schooled by the two maids who were hired on by Ms. Collins so as to not disturb their lives with the arrangement of their parents.

In the events leading up to the outbreak, Jeremy had been on his way to the villa to spend the summer with his children. Arriving just as the outbreak had begun, Jeremy had found the house to be vacant save for one of the maids hired on by his ex-wife. Upon interrogation, she revealed that the other maid had taken the boys on a field trip to the harbor to teach them about the marine life there and that they would likely be back by the afternoon, as they usually are. However, as the day grew longer and there was no sign of the children, Jeremy became worried. He attempted to call his ex-wife and then the second maid, both of whom failed to answer his calls.

Having taken a taxi to get to the home, Jeremy was left stranded with no way to get to the harbor and find his children. And as the day stretched on into night, and the screams of terror and pain filled the air his hopes were driven deep and crushed into his gut. An injured man made his way to the sliding glass door that was the back wall of the house. Screaming for help as his blood spilled out on the floor, the maid rushed up to him only to be ambushed by two other men who began to rip and tear at her skin with their teeth and nails. Jeremy rushed into the kitchen, picking up a knife with which to defend himself. He yelled at the assailants, asking what they wanted but all they replied with were moans and the sound of their teeth scraping against the bones of the young maid. The man who had fallen at his back door rose up slowly from the ground and then rushed at Jeremy, forcing him to extend the knife until it was handle deep in the man's skull. As the assailant fell, the other two rushed inside the house finding their way to the spilled brains. Unsure of what was happening, but being so frightened he had only his instincts to go on. With eyes wide in fear, the former mayor jabbed the knife as deep into the other two assailants' heads as he could on repeat until they had ceased to move.

Jeremy fell to the ground, his back sliding against the cold refrigerator door as he stared out at the dark ocean and the night sky beyond his door. Four people lay dead inside his home; a woman with her arms torn from her body, her skin and clothes torn to shreds while she lay slumped in a puddle of her own blood, and three men with knife sized holes in their heads lay with their mouths agape and full of little bits of cloth and flesh on the floor. And here Jeremy sat until the sun came up, in shock of what he'd witnessed and unsure of what to do or where to go next. For as far as one could see in either direction, this house stood alone, isolated and most of all... unprotected from whatever else may come in the coming days. Gathering what mental fortitude he had left, the man lifted himself from the ground and dragged the deceased maid's body back into the house and pulled close the curtains, waiting for the authorities to come arrest him for the murders that he had committed.

STRENGTH - 1 - Can carry 30 weight

Not exactly the symbol of strength that he once could have been, Jeremy is rather lean and lanky. His strengths lie in places other than his biceps.

STAMINA - 3 - Can travel to and freely roam ANY sector in ANY OTHER zone, but must remain in that zone at the end of the phase

Due to a certain mentality that his wife had passed on to him, Jeremy never invested in a mode of transportation aside from a bicycle and a pair of Nike tennis shoes. While not exactly the strongest physically, years of walking from door to door while asking for citizens' votes and stances on public issues has kept him in shape and much more mobile than your average Joe.

CHARISMA - 4 - Can speak to, calm, and negotiate with Level 4 NPCs

Despite not having moved on past being a mayor, he is still quite the public speaker. Having an acute awareness for the wants and desires of people whom he's only just met, Jeremy formed his platforms on his familiarity with his audience. Years of meeting new people and studying ways to better improve his appearances in the eyes of those people have helped him to be able to connect with and understand almost anyone in almost any situation.

INTELLIGENCE - 2 - Can learn how to craft or design from Level 2 Books

While not the smartest of the bunch, Jeremy still scored relatively well when he was in school. Real world applications aren't exactly his forte though, seeing as how he's been able to rely on the help of others for most of his life.

The plane crash is basically the intro post I'll make to start the game off. It'll come once signups have finished up. :)

Curtis Conner

Kickstarter%20Portrait%202_zpsxiupyuqi.png

HOMETOWN: Aurora, NY
HISTORY:
Curtis grew up in a small town in New York where he worked on his parents' small farm. He's worked hard for years, planting and harvesting crops, feeding the animals, building fences and fixing simple structures. He's skipped out on school and friends to keep his family from going hungry. He has a bad temper, most likely caused by his lack of social interaction while he was young, and is very direct, not understanding much about what is appropriate or inappropriate to say or when to say it. He had a strong bond with his animals, feeling most at home around cows, pigs, and chickens, and feels most comfortable away from large buildings.

HOW DID YOU ARRIVE TO BROOKINGS?

His favorite hobby is fishing, which he would do every weekend at the lake down the road. When his grandfather invited him to visit his place in Brookings Curtis excitedly agreed. While he was out on a fishing boat admiring the beauty of the ocean the outbreak hit, and his grandfather was viciously attacked and murdered by zombies. Upon returning to shore and heading to his grandfather's house he found his grandfather's body, and when it began to move he ran, ran as far as he could. He currently is living in a small fishing shack near the water

ATTRIBUTES:
STRENGTH - 4 (Can carry 80 weight)
Hauling grain, harvesting crops by hand, and working 24/7 has given him immense strength and a muscled body.
STAMINA - 4 (Can travel to and freely roam ANY zone, and can return to your home sector at the end of the phase)
Working hard day in and day out, in addition to the time he spent hauling crops in from the fields has given him a great deal of stamina.
CHARISMA - 1 (1 point = Can speak to, calm, and negotiate with Level 1 NPCs)
Being isolated in a field his whole life hasn't done much to help him learn how to communicate with others. He's blunt, says what he thinks, and is unable to read many basic social queues.
INTELLIGENCE - 1 (Can learn how to craft or design from Level 1 Books)
Skipping out on school has severely limited his knowledge. He knows how to lift heavy things and run a farm, but that's pretty much the limit of his brain.

Lou Henderson
Fillmore%20Claude_zpsejkekbf5.png

HOMETOWN

Fargo, ND

HISTORY

Lou was born and raised in Fargo where he spent much of his time roaming the hills and hunting with his father and brother. His mother died early in his life and he had never truly known her or loved her, a fact which his father and brother both abused him over. As he grew up, he found a small group of friends in town who he bonded well with and his satisfaction with his social life led to separation issues when high school finished. His friends and his girlfriend all had been accepted to colleges across the country, while Lou had barely scraped by in school. He had graduated, but never considered college for his future. He had spent some time on the football team, but never saw much success either. As the phone calls and reunions with friends became more infrequent, so too did Lou's bitterness grow. Only three months after graduation, his girlfriend called from her New York apartment to end their relationship. He quickly became isolated from others after the loss of his friends and resigned himself to a lonely life in Fargo.

He spent years hopping from small job to side job in Fargo barely making minimum wage and being miserable as a result, but he found his passion after years of searching: long haul truck driving. The work was not particularly thrilling, but he loved seeing the sights of America. He had been to every state except Alaska and Hawaii and had found friends in other truck drivers along the way. His life was not perfect, but he was finally content. He lived in his truck, which made for a cozy and reasonably priced home. He found solace and comfort in the work and the roar of his engine along the highway, as well as laughter and companionship in the truck stops and bars frequented by his fellow truckers and the low lives of America. He could drink his fair share, which made him belligerent and willing to fight. As a result, he wound up giving and receiving bruises and bloody noses from boisterous and large bikers and truckers across the country. He could usually pull a sleazy woman from the bar who was impressed by his effort and he was no stranger to getting strange.

He was content in life.

HOW DID YOU ARRIVE TO BROOKINGS?

A few weeks before the outbreak reached its peak, Lou was hitching his trailer on for a trip from Montana to Oregon when the broadcast on the radio caught his attention.

"There have been even more cases of a viral infection spreading across the southern part of the country, while similar cases are being reported everywhere from Maine to California. Scientists and experts are studying the infection, but have come up with no conclusive results so far. The infection appears to be causing the infected to become violently ill, delirious, and physically aggressive. Over two thousand cases of the virus have been reported as a result of those infected biting their victims. This bite appears to transfer the disease and rapidly result in a coma-like state to the victim, who soon after becomes as aggressive and delirious as those causing the bites. The President has declared..."

Lou missed the rest of the broadcast as other truckers backed into the stockyard to pick up their loads. Lou saw his friend Rich hopping out of his truck nearby and waved before finishing hitching his own trailer and pulling out of the facility.

He drove to Oregon over the next couple days, taking highways he knew less traffic would be on. He had a quick turnaround for this delivery and wanted to arrive early to give himself a few days to rest on the coast. As midday hit, he was backing into the cargo dock of Happy Hardware and wiping sweat off his brow. His A/C unit went out halfway to Brookings and it had been a particularly hot drive. When he felt the trailer bump the dock, he honked his horn and turned the engine off.

Hopping out, he expected to hear the familiar clatter of a rolling gate, but no clatter came. He walked towards the dock door and knocked. He expected to hear a shout of "be right there!" from the stock boy who he had known manned the deliveries, but no shout came. He tried the handle and the heavy metal door creaked open.

"Hello?" Lou shouted into the cold and well-stocked storage area. "Delivery! It's Lou!"

No reply came. He checked his watch and saw it was half past noon. Maybe they were taking their lunch break. He stepped in as the door swung shut behind him, emitting a loud slam. He was drenched in darkness, except the small line of light behind him from the outside and the store's bright aisles past the employee's only doors. He walked forward and slipped on water, nearly losing his balance. "Mother ****er," he muttered.

He cautiously stepped over the rest of the pool of liquid and pushed open the swinging door into Happy Hardware's 15th aisle, Hammers, Nails, & Studs. He heard the jingle of generic store music as he saw someone run past aisle 15 at the other end.

"Excuse me!" he hollered to the blur, but they didn't return or respond. He stood, somewhat confused, as the entrance door's bell tinkled. He walked down aisle 15, intending to talk to Gerald, the owner of the store, when he heard a blood-chilling scream somewhere to his left. He turned to head towards the noise when he looked down at the floor. From the swinging door he had first entered the store from all the way to underneath his boot was blight red shoe prints. The hairs on his neck stood up as a momentary panic set in. Blood?

Another scream snapped him back to action and he dashed down the aisle and turned, racing past aisle 16, Screwdrivers, Screws, & Posts, aisle 17, Saws & Chains, aisle 18, Fixtures & Design, until he stopped at aisle 19 and saw a man slumped over a woman on the floor. Holy ****! Lou was in shock. This woman was being assaulted and raped in the store while it was closed? The sick bastard. Lou ran up, grabbed the man by the scruff of his shirt collar, and threw him backwards.

"Get off her, you sick f..." He stopped. It was Gerald. He couldn't believe it. The kindly old man wouldn't do something like this, would he? He shook his head and looked closer. Gerald had blood dripping down his left arm and more blood in his mouth and on his teeth. Lou looked down and saw the woman had a chunk of her throat missing. He stepped back and nearly crashed into the paint brushes along the aisle.

"W-what the hell did you do, Gerald?"

Gerald gurgled and stepped towards Lou, but he wasn't the only one moving. The woman on the ground began stirring too.

"Lady, don't move. I'll get you some help!"

Lou grabbed his phone from his pocket and began to dial 911 when the woman rose to her feet and began shuffling towards Lou as well.

He couldn't understand what was happening. But then he recalled the broadcast from earlier. Bites and something about aggressive behavior.

"Gerald, look, let me call 911 and get you some help. Just stay away from me."

Lou turned around and quickly walked back to the swinging employee doors. He dialed 911 and put the phone to his ear. Only a dead tone. He tried again. Nothing.

Reception must be bad in here. He turned to head back to his truck when the doors began swinging and the stock boy came out.

"Kid, listen, something's wrong with Gerald. He..." Lou stopped as the kid lunged towards him, mouth gaping and a deathly growl emitting from his throat. Lou barely jumped out of the way, falling over a display stand carrying cheap nails. He crawled backwards as the kid moved towards him again. "Stay back!" Behind him, he heard footsteps and turned. Gerald and the woman were behind him.

He lifted himself up and grabbed a ball peen hammer from the shelf. "I'm warning you, mother ****ers! Stay back!"

The stock boy inched closer and Lou swung the hammer into his jaw. It connected and bone shattered as the young man toppled over, a new gaping wound in his temple. Lou didn't wait. He jumped over the hopefully-unconscious stock boy and dashed through the stock room doors, nearly slipping on what he now believed was blood, and out the delivery door he had entered through originally. He jumped into his truck and locked the doors. He was shaking and nauseous. He might have just killed that kid. He always could handle himself in a fight, but he had never hurt anyone like he just did. But...it was self-defense. There was no way he was letting some bastard kid get him sick or infect him with some disease.

Lou grabbed his phone again and tried dialing 911 again.

ATTRIBUTES

STRENGTH - 4

Lou can handle himself in a fight and spends the majority of his time when not driving lifting heavy cargo into his trailer. His father and brother spent his youth punching and kicking him, and his football days had helped too.

STAMINA - 2

Despite his physical strength, he also spends the majority of his time drinking beer in bars, driving for hours in a truck, and the most cardio he gets is when he's got a cheap ten dollar hooker in the back of his truck. He's certainly got some work to do.

CHARISMA - 3

Lou's met and befriended people of all races and creeds. He gets along well with most, but certainly won't put up with abuse after his youth. His attitude turns some off, but he's loyal to those that show him respect and loyalty too.

INTELLIGENCE - 1

Lou made it through high school, but just barely. He's smart enough to handle mechanical work as needed, but won't be researching a cure for the disease any time soon.

NAME: Nova Rush
HOMETOWN: Brookings, Oregon

HISTORY: Nova resided in Brookings, Oregon until she attended college at Purdue University to Pursue a soccer scholarship all the while majoring in botany away from home. Sophomore year Nova was on the field juggling the ball and felt herself going numb and moments later her body became heavy and she fell to the ground unconscious with people stumbling over her causing trauma to the head. With the ref in panic nova was rushed to the ER and had a CAT scan that revealed a major concussion and Myashtenia Gravis. When Nova awoke the doctors were very cautious and wanted to run more test but she was still incoherent and the doctors couldn't run more test without consent so they insisted that her parents come in and have a talk so they would be aware of what nova is going through. Her parents arrived and started filling out multiple papers that they believed would help Nova get better and be their same little healthy girl again. Nova awoke 2 weeks after being admitted , all cloudy in the head. The doctors were sure she wasn't going to wake up for quite sometime. The 4th week Nova was presented with what was going on with her health and pamphlets for places that specialized in the therapies she would need to go to carry out basic rehabilitation. Being as stubborn as she was nova believed that this was something that wouldn't completely cripple her from playing soccer so she tried coming back on the team but the coach just couldn't do it because Nova was considered a liability. She was still in the early stages of the disease which fully affected her body when she was on the field studying the growth of flowers and collapsed again. Too embarrassed and ashamed of what her body want't doing she decided to go back with her parents to figure things out and how to go about things. The months following her drop out of college she decided to basically give up on her life and become a horse led tour guide completely giving up on botany because she now found it monotonous. Nova feels that she has no importance anymore and is considered useless at work if it required anything but sitting down. The confidence nova once had from all the popularity from being on a sports team and went down alot and her "friends" no longer make contact with her.

The day the outbreak happened Nova realised something was off by the lack of tourist on the bus but then again it could've just been the fact that it wasn't warm enough. Nova was wearing her usual khaki capris and a tank top with a crop top flannel just for extra warmth and her frumpy boots she's managed to keep in goo-ish condition for 2 years although she never took them with her when she set off for college. There was alot going through her head while dropping tourist off and picking up new ones trying to be happy. There was just too much she felt she didn't ......What apperead to be a man was running towards the horse drawn carriage which set them in panic and nova never experiencing this before started to panic also. The man was now on one of the horses legs as if trying to bite into it, the few people that were on the tour immediately got from there seats and started arguing with nova and telling her to do her job right until that same lady telling nova off realized why she was in such shock and was unable to move. One horse was down, Carriage completely stopped and nova in such panic froze with fear and didn't even buge when the man stood up from where he was and headed towards the front of the carriage clawing at it to silence the woman shaking nova. Blood was everywhere and on everything and nova's body was going limp once again and that's when she blacked out. The blood hungry man found his was on the bus while the passengers where trying to get off but only a few made it and the rest where thrown around like rag dolls and pieces of cloth were getting stuck in the deranged mans mouth and once the man seemed asatisfied enough with what he had done he hopped off the bus with both his left hand and right foot broken from the fighting back people tried but failed at succeeding.
The sun was setting when Nova awoke and when she fully awoke she was out of breath and unsure what was real, if her eyes were decieving her or not.

STRENGTH - 1 - Diagnosed with a muscular disease called Myashtenia Gravis halfway through her college career, Nova has lost most of her physical prowess making her a shell of her former self.

STAMINA - 1 - Due to her muscular disease, her mobility is limited on a daily basis.

CHARISMA - 4 - Nova has always been talkative and part of the 'in-crowd' in school.

INTELLIGENCE - 4 - Nova is a college dropout but not because of grades, but rather a lack of enthusiasm about her chosen path of life.

Anne "Annie" Himmler
Age: 24
Hometown: Salem, Massachusetts

History

Before the outbreak, Anne was a student at Caltech (California Institute of Technology) in Pasadena, studying Biology. She didn't have any fleshed out plans for the future and she only took Biology out of her curiosity regarding how the World works. She was the only child of Gustav and Charity Himmler so, when she got her acceptance letter from Caltech, her parents weren't too keen on letting their baby girl go all the way across the country.

Once she arrived at Caltech and settled in the dorm room she was assigned to, Annie was quick at making friends . Her above average IQ made her into an extremely curious person and that could only spell trouble for both herself and her newly found friends. She often found her classes boring, but there was always something triggering her curiosity, always causing her to drag her friends into a "sneaking party" with the goal of sneaking into the labs and facilities on campus at night. Somehow, she managed to remain undetected for most of her crazy expeditions. When she was caught, however, the punishment was always harsh. Anne, however, never saw it that way. She enjoyed every bit of her crazy adventures as she couldn't help wonder what she could do better to avoid detection.

Because of her rather low attention span, Annie was never a straigh A's student but she always managed to get grades high enough to hold on to her scholarship. When she wasn't getting distracted during class or dragging her friends through some weird "sneaking party" adventure, Anne prefered the peace and quiet of her dorm room where she would listen to music whilst studying the things that she found interesting. Under her bed, she kept a suitcase full of various books ranging from cook books to weapon maintenance books to child rearing. In short, if anything seemed interesting enough to hold her attention for more than two seconds, she would go for it.

During a Spring vacation she and her two closest friends (as well as her acomplices in her crazy outings), Hannah and Jade, went to downtown Los Angeles for some shopping and a bit of fun. There, she ran into Jessy, a man her age who was from Kansas. Annie and Jesse quickly made friends and the young woman spent the remainder of her Spring vacation going out with the man, enjoying herself. As the vacation was nearing its end, Jessy and Annie had to part ways as the woman had to return to her studies and the man had to return to Oregon where he was working as a car mechanic in a friend's shop.

In the early days of the outbreak, Anne and her friends listened to the broadcasts every hour from the safety of Anne and Jade's dorm room. Things seemed to be getting worse and Annie knew that, sooner or later, they were going to have to move. She called her parents several times a day, making sure they were alright.

Although the campus was still relatively safe, Annie knew that she had to be ready so she urged her friends to prepare a backpack each with water, a change of clothes and supplies that would be of use to them should they need to relocate such as enough food for a a few days between them, torches, batteries, matches, medicine, bandages, rechargeable batteries for their phones and a swiss army knife each. The woman also packed a hand-crank charger she'd recieved as a birthday present from her father a couple of years back as she was very prone of forgetting to charge her phone before leaving the house. She felt they were prepared enough.

Around day four since the news broadcasts started, Annie made her usual call home. Her parents sounded scared and something didn't feel quite right. They assured her that everything was fine but, as they were talking, Anne could hear glass being shattered, her mother's scream in the background and father dropping the phone, followed by muddled screaming and talking after which the line went dead. The woman knew that something terribly wrong had happened and that urged her to leave. She knew, however, that they couldn't leave unarmed so she had her friends wait in her dorm room whilst she snuck into the building's maintenance room and grabbed a ball peen hammer, a claw hammer and a screwdriver.

Upon returning to her room, Anne found only Hannah inside who told her that Jade thought she heard something and figured she would go after Annie to help her and make sure they both returned safely. The woman told Hannah that Jade never came to meet her and that she didn't see her or anyone on her way back. The two women decided to wait for another ten minutes after which Anne wrote a note for their friend, detailing the route they would be taking and left it in an easy to see place. Hannah and Annie then set out towards Hannah's car at the other side of the campus, in the parking lot. Their first encounter with the undead was grim and unforgettable for both of them. They had just gone out of the building and walked alongside it, using the hedges for cover when, around the corner, they spotted one of "them" slouched on top of someone, feasting. It hadn't seen them yet so they managed to go around it, but they couldn't help looking over to see who the victim was. To their surprise, their friend Jade was the victim and she was on the fine line between life and death. The huge gash in her throat rendered her unable to scream or make much of a sound at all and, due to the massive loss of blood, she barely had any strength to struggle, her eyes tearing up uncontrollably. It took everything in Anne's power not to scream or burst into tears. Her survival instict kicked in so she covered Hannah's mouth and dragged her away, a sense of urgency befalling her. As the two women snuck around the campus on their way to the parking lot, they could get a glimpse of how serious this whole outbreak thing was. The campus wasn't in a state of chaos yet, but the women could see more and more of the corpses shambling around, looking for victims to prey on. Anne didn't let go of her friend's hand until the two safely arrived to Hannah's car.

Once inside, Anne told Hannah that she had to get back to Salem, to make sure her parents were alright. Hannah apologised saying that she could only drive up to Portland, Oregon, where her family was. Annie thanked Hannah for the lift to Oregon and decided to try and contact Jessy, in hopes that he would be able to at least give her a lift up until Kansas. Luckily, she managed to reach the young man who told her he was in a town by the name of Brookings and that he was ready to leave. Anne begged him to wait for her and explained the situation. The man reluctantly agreed and gave her a day to reach him, after which he would leave without her. Hannah told her friend that she knew where Brookings was and was more than happy to drop her there on her way home.

As it often happens, things don't always go according to plan. Most of the roads were blocked or teeming with undead as the two girls made their way North. They had to find detours and plenty of alternate ways to go through certain areas. To make matters worse, Hannah's tank was running out faster than she anticipated and they soom had to stop and try to get some gas. A lot of the gas stations they found along the way were on fire, others had shady characters loitering around and some were just way too crowded with the undead. The two or three they found that were safer than the rest barely had any gas left or had abandoned cars blocking the pumps. All the girls could see along the way was chaos, all they could hear was screaming, the sound of fighting, things being shattered. Annie couldn't believe just how bad it really was. She was slowly starting to lose hope in ever finding her parents alive. Eventually, the car ran out of gas around Sacramento and the two girls had to set out on foot. Hannah wasn't very keen on that and quite frankly, neither was Anne. But they had to keep going. Before they knew it, one day had gone by thus Annie lost her ride. A day later, their phones suddenly lost signal and power started going out. That was extremely bad news for the two women as they still hadn't managed to cross Sacramento. They had been sticking to the suburbs and tried their best to avoid the center of the city as, based on previous experiences with all the towns they went through, the nearer to the center, the higher the concentration of undead. A couple more days down the line, they lost one of their backpacks which halved their remaining food and gear and that made it even more difficult to press on. By the time they reached the outskirts of Brookings, a few weeks had gone by and the two women had to resort to breaking and entering in order to get more supplies. They managed to avoid most of the undead by hiding and travelling only during certain hours of the day and never at night. When they couldn't avoid the zombies, the two would cleverly work together to split whatever group they faced up and take them out one by one. Neither of them was particularly strong, but they soon noticed that a good blow to the head with their hammers seemed to be enough to dispose of the walking corpses. That is how Anne concluded that destroying or damaging the brain was the only way to get rid of those nasty creatures.

When the two women finally reached Brookings, they headed straight for Jessy's friend's shop but all they could find was an empty, clearly looted place. Annie gave her friend Hannah the backpack and the two said their goodbyes as she urged her friend to be on her way before night fell. The town so far had been a bit too quiet for Anne's taste so she wanted to be on the move as well. After seeing her friend off, the woman returned to the auto shop and gave it another look. Tucked in a corner she found an empty hiking backpack that seemed to be in good condition. She picked it up and checked every pocket to make sure she didn't miss anything. Then she put it on and snuck out of the shop, making her way inside the town. She had reached what looked like a diner when she noticed an old looking man climb inside through a broken window. She decided to hide and watch from afar, unsure how safe it would be for her to approach a stranger. From her hiding place, she soon after observed two men, one hoding a shovel and the other holding a cleaver. The two looked well-stocked with supplies and were talking rather loudly as they went inside the very diner the man she saw before entered. The woman snuck closer to the place, careful not to make any noise and listened. No sooner than five minutes had gone by when she heard a commotion inside and what sounded like a fight. She watched carefully until the fighting stopped. She then saw the older man walk out, seemingly unharmed which was all she needed to know that he wasn't with the two dangerous-looking men. Grabbing her claw hammer, she slowly and cautiously revealed herself to the man.

Attributes

Strength

2 (can carry 50 weight)
Anne wasn't the strongest of people and she wasn't very big on sports. Her weeks on the road with Hannah, carrying around the heavy backpack and her ocasional fights with the undead did seem to pay off as she managed to build up a bit of muscle and endurance. She soon found herself able to carry quite a bit in her backpack before she parted with it and gave all of their supplies to her friend, Hannah.

Stamina

3 (can travel and roam in any sector in any other zone, but must remain in that zone at the end of the phase)
Anne's "sneaking parties" required quite a bit of stamina to pull off since all her sneaking around needed some ocasional climbing and running. Due to the nature of her curiosity-induced game, she needed to be able to run and run fast.

Charisma

2 (can speak to, calm, and negotiate with Level 2 NPCs)
Although friendly, Anne wasn't much of a people person. Her group of friends was usually quite small and she always prefered spending time on her own over interacting with people more than she deemed necessary. She tolerated her friends, but not so much other people. Against her better wishes, the woman does know that she needs to find herself a group or a travelling companion if she wishes to survive.

Intelligence

3 (can learn how to craft and design from Level 3 books)
Anne is no doubt intelligent and resourceful. Her bad attention span and the fact that she gets bored easily have gimped her ability to grasp certain things and skills she deems boring, no matter how useful they may be. She's always open to learning and improving her skills but only those she finds interesting enough to keep her dedicated.
