Question of the Day

What do you feel is the most underrated type?

Rock. At least, that's the type I hear the least about, so I guess it's underrated. Some of the best Pokemon out there design-wise are part Rock type, though! Onix, Bastiodon, Rhyperior, Aggron, Tyranitar, etc. But people always seem to think of the other type that goes with them when they think of Rock types, as though it's just an unfortunate circumstance that they happen to be part Rock as well. I think the problem is that Rock types are mostly made up of fossil Pokemon and that they tend to have a lot of common weaknesses, and people are obsessed with tiers and all the rest of it. I've never had a problem using Rock types in my team though.

What do you feel is the most underrated type?

Ice. I like the Pokemon for it despite it's being considered to be one of the weakest types.

What do you feel is the most underrated type?
Grass, simply pretty command but I like certain grass despite being higher weakeness link

What do you feel is the most underrated type?

Bug :( It seems that it's known for its weaknesses, but a lot of them have lethal set-up potential, and can also counter Dark, Grass, and Psychic types. For instance, Vivillon is a threat in NU. A high-speed and high-SpA Vivillon can start out with Sleep Powder, then use Quiver Dance to strengthen its speed and SpA even more, and unleash the powerful STAB-boosted Hurricane which if it doesn't KO, could always confuse as well. Don't forget the lethal Speed Boost bugs like Yanmega and Ninjask.

Not only that, but there's so many amazingly-designed bugs, like the butterflies, not to mention the gorgeous Vivillon. <3

Whaa no EV training??

I actually tend to go with Psyshock, in competitive situations. Really helps in Calm Mind wars, which tend to happen quite a bit. In regular gameplay though I normally go for Psychic, because it's ever so slightly stronger.

One thing about Psychic is, it was easily one of the best attacks in the game back in 1st gen and arguably 2nd gen too. So for those of us who were players during that time, using it is pretty satisfying, I have to admit ^^ (especially since they brought back the classic sound effect in 6th gen)

I beg to differ! Scizor, Genesect, Volcarona, Pinsir, Heracross and Forretress are tough customers. Then there are those Bug-types that are worth the mention like M-Beedrill, Galvantula, Yanmega, etc. Bug-type isn't that underated, don't let the vivid butterflies cover your eyes. XD

Ironically one of the Bug-type's weaknesses which is the Rock-type, is considered as underated. Aside the obvious Tyranitar, Diancie and perhaps Terrakion, no ordinary Rock-types are ranked as OU/Uber tier in Gen VI.

What do you feel is the most underrated type?
I'd have to agree with bug, considering there aren't too many bug-type Pokémon out there that are utilized as much as others.

How much time do you spend on EV training?

It only takes me a half hour to fully EV train a Pokémon, since it's possible to get 50 EVs per horde battle if you do it right.

Psyshock or Psychic?

I do use Psyshock for competitive, but I prefer Psychic. I might just be old-school like that.

What do you feel is the most underrated type?

Grass, imo. It does have a fair share of common weaknesses but there are also a lot of dual-types, immunity to powder moves now, and it has so many cute Pokémon.

Psyshock or Psychic?

That's up in the air. One is better against low Defense Pokemon while the other is better against low Sp.Defense ones.

Both have 10 PP and benefit a special sweeper.

Generally Psychic is more accessible as a TM and more Pokemon can learn the move. Might have to go with Psychic on this one.

What do you feel is the most underrated type?

Bug. Of course there are some tough ones like Mega Beedrill and Scizor, et al., but I think early Bug Catchers are partly to blame for the psychology of squishing tiny, helpless bugs.

What do you feel is the most underrated type?

I think Bug, Poison and Grass.

Bug-types are often slammed for their common weaknesses and being too "weak" but remember we do have some bugs that really do know how to lift their weight on the competitive scale, plus Mega Beedrill is really threatening with its buffed STABs, and increased focus on speed and power.

Poison was always underused until now given there was only one type weak to it, and said type already had other more common weaknesses. But looking at the stats of Poison-types, they have a lot of resistances and there's some good diversity with the type as of late in terms of type and playstyle, and Fairy-type introduction finally helped Poison have a more offensive use again.

And Grass also gets slammed for having too many weaknesses, but the type has finally been given an edge thanks to their spore and powder move immunity that they acquired in this generation, making them hard to inflict status conditions on. Plus there's so many cute Pokemon from this type as well.

I'll go with Bug-type since it usually gets a lot of discredit for some of the early game bugs, but you of course have Beedrill (now with its Mega), Pinsir, Heracross, and Scolipede among others that can really do some damage. Also, you can't leave out the fact that Bug-type moves can take down powerful Psychic and Dark-types.

I would have said Bug-type a long time ago, but with all the amazing Bug-type Pokemon and moves we've gotten in modern generations, I think Bug-types are pretty well-regarded (Scizor, Heracross, Scolipede, Ninjask, Genesect are just a few). I'd say Poison is the most underrated type. It's pretty useful, but it just doesn't seem to get that much love :c Not to mention it's the only type that hasn't gotten a legendary yet (Poison-type Arceus notwithstanding).

(This next question has actually happened to me, don't laugh)

Question of the Day

Have you ever run entirely out of money in-game?

I've never completely zeroed out my money counter, but it's run pretty low on occasion. It generally happens pretty early in the game (pre-gym #1), when I use all of my money on Pokeballs, though I'm not sure that counts. I almost reached zero in gen II ($600ish), I believe on Silver, though. Most of my other games had died, and I was trying to make quick teams for use on Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2. Between TMs and vitamins (I didn't have a whole lot of interest in abusing the box trick over and over again, and for low levels, it isn't that practical), I used up my entire cash supply. I guess I could have generated more money vs. the Elite Four if needed, but I don't think I ever bothered to do so.

Spending too much on Writs and recoveries lately, but no worries since I can work my way to get some more monies. Every early start of the game I tend to be out of money (pokeballs and recoveries) because your dependent on lots of potions on first run.

I think so, but it's usually only during the early stages of the game because I need to splash all my cash for Pokeballs + Paralyze Heals + Antidotes to give me a boost.

I think I might have run low on money once in the early stages of the game (pre-first Gym) but I don't think I ever entirely ran out of Pokedollars in any playthrough I've done.

I did when I was a kid, during the Gen I era! Speaking of being broke in Gen I, here's a fun fact:

In Pokémon Yellow, if the player tries to enter the Safari Zone with less than [PokeCommunity.com] Question of the Day500, they can enter the Safari Zone for all of their remaining money but they get a number of Safari Balls proportional to the amount paid. If they have no money, they can enter for free but only receive a single Safari Ball. - Bulbapedia

I barely buy anything, so that's never happened to me :P
Eww, this is the most ungenerous trainer I have ever heard. That Delibird though. -insert I trusted you meme-

In all seriousness though, I was actually once like you! It was sorta like a survival challenge thing or me, as well as training myself not to rely on the items too much. (: Buying recovery items have became a recent thing though. :/ Well at least I haven't ran out of cash, haha! XD

Yea, this has definitely happened to me. Not counting the times I left all my money with my mom in HG/SS, this happened to me back when I first played Yellow, and I kept losing to Brock (because he's literally the hardest gym leader ever in Yellow when all you have is a Pikachu and a bunch of Normal and Flying-types). Between constantly losing to him and going back to buy potions, I ended up penniless.

What healing item do you use most often?

What healing item do you use most often?

Hyper Potion! It hits the sweet spot between restoring capacity and affordability. Full Restore comes in second, but I only resort to using them when the situation gets really sticky. Max Potions are almost never bothered with unless I'm running around with a team of level 100s for some reason.
