I don't know if this has been brought up in a while or what, but it's something I'd like to see the forum bring back (we had it for a moment, didn't we?). Basically where you have a receipt of who's seen a PM.

I'm sure there's a reason it was removed though and I'm open to listen to that, but in all honesty I don't see why it couldn't be there. What do you guys think?

Speaking about PMs, correct? Or notifications or something else? Just trying to follow is all, haha.

What are these read receipts exactly? I don't know what those are.

For people like myself who probably have no idea what this is, I'll just be the one to ask: what exactly is a 'read receipt'?

I'm old on this site but even I don't exactly know what that is.

    Edit: sniped by everyone

Okay there we go haha. Yeah that would be nice though. That way when someone doesn't reply and you're not even sure if they saw your PM, the read receipts would let you know. I'd be fine with it, it's just a matter of coding.

Ooooh that's what you meant Inyotef. Sounds good to me, don't see why we can't have this.

The only thing I don't like about it is the whole "omg why haven't you replied to me yet you read it already" stigma that could come from the more... paranoid members, but other than that I see no real reason not to so I'm in favour!

Yeah I'm cool with turning them on. With the possibility of you deciding on whether or not members can see that you've "read" the PM. Similar to how iMessage and other messaging apps allow.

Me too... Sometimes i'm left wondering if certain people have seen the messages I send or not, so this is something I wouldn't mind so you can find out if they at least acknowledge you exist.

I can't speak for others, but when I send a private message, it's usually important so it's nice to know when that person has seen it. I think the pros outweigh the cons in this case and I think those that might be more paranoid on this are in the minor.

I was wondering what had happened to them. Honestly, I wouldn't mind but... I'd be worried about people freaking out because I haven't responded to them. Not like I get PMs much to start with... so I guess it wouldn't really matter much.

Read receipts can be requested by a check box on the "compose a new private message" screen, they aren't given to you by default on every private message you send. Meaning it's as easy as a click of the mouse, but that doesn't necessarily mean every private message sent will come attached with a

"omg why haven't you replied to me yet you read it already" stigma

Since the box shouldn't be checked by default.

There's a possibility that some people may feel that way, but only by their own request. Whether the other person replies right away or not, the sender's impatience is just their own overreaction to a nice feature -w-b

The read receipt implementation as it is has been largely turned off because it's not entirely flexible, and overloads users viewing PMs with dialog boxes about sending/marking read receipts.

The PM system as it stands is getting dumped, too, so I'm not entirely focussed on changing the implementation right now.
Ummmm... what? Can someone explain please?

I see "as it stands" so I'm assuming that means there's still going to be a way to privately communicate with users. If not, then this will probably create some problems if you plan to scrap that feature.
