Remakes VS New Adventures

    Would you rather Gamefreak's next release be a remake of an older game or a new game? Why? Note: this is not what you THINK Gamefreak will do, but what you'd want them to do, so ignore "Well Gamefreak just released ORAS, which is a remake, so their next game will probably be new." Also, sequels fall under the "new game" category. Discuss!
     
    I like new games better because of the hype. With new games, there's more information and excitement, such as new Pokemon, new areas, new characters, new features etc. But, with remakes, it's just old games with newer graphics, and the excitement focuses around the graphics, and not the rest. Granted, I know that remakes will introduce some new areas and trainers, but it's always nice to be excited about a game that feels fresh.
     
    I'm happy with whatever they decide to release, honestly - remakes mean I get a burst of nostalgia, new games mean I get to look forward to discovering an entirely new region with new Pokemon or, in the case of sequels or third games, new features and story elements. Regardless, I get to feel like a ten year old again, which is a feeling not many other games can capture.

    In an ideal world...remakes every other year, perhaps? So, we had X/Y, and this year was ORAS, so next year would be a third game or sequel to X/Y, the year following that, either a 20th anniversay for the original games or a DPPt remake, then a new generation, and so on. I'm quite happy with the way they're doing things right now though; I have no preference other than that they keep doing both and keep up the annual releases!

    ...oh, I want a global release for the next one. Screw waiting an extra week for no real reason.
     
    I would really rather see a new game, like another Kalos game, than a remake of a previous region. When the first games from the series are made, they do end up short on content and usually leave specific questions regarding the story, so the next games usually touch up on those matters.

    But I get the feeling that some people are starting to get sick of the third games, hence why Emerald/Platinum/B2W2 have quite undersold compared to their original counterparts. I guess I can't really justify why the first games don't have these improvements in the first place (but B2W2 at least has some reason to exist as it's a follow-up to the first games and not remaking them, unlike Emerald and Platinum which were the same thing as the originals until the post-game).
     
    I do prefer something fresh, but seeing a remake from time to time isn't that bad either. For one, Nintendo's remakes serve as the bridge between nostalgia and the current gen, so it kind of works out. As for stuff like Emerald and Platinum, I'm on the same boat as Pendraflame here. If they manage to maintain their development like they did for the DS (2 generations of pokemon, with gen V having two different storylines) then I'd be totally fine with it. Any less, then I'd go for new games full-on. We just want the old pokemon anyway in the new ones, for the most part.
     
    Remakes are great because they are usually hugely different from the originals so that stands.

    However I'll have to go with the new adventures. Greater hype, far more excitement.

    You've most likely played the original games of the remakes. Huge bonus is the nostalgia and seeing everything in better graphics, but unfortunately, it also pulls a minus with it, at least for me, and its a fact that you basically know the main story, and it kinda lowers the excitement.

    All in all, remakes are awesome, but at any given moment, I prefer a new adventure just a bit more.
     
    Personally I'd like Gen 7 or DPP remakes to come out next. I don't want an X/Y 2. Generally I'm not a huge fan of sequels. Emerald was good, because you got to fight Team Magma and Aqua at the same time, but all the others I didn't like as much as the first ones.

    So yeah, basically I'd like Gen 7 to come out next, followed by maybe a 20th anniversary thing, then DP Remakes.
     
    New games. When X/Y came out I was so excited and bought a 3DS just to play it. There are so many things to explore, new Pokemon to catch and yeah...
    With ORAS I was still excited, since I only made it halfway through Emerald, but it's still the same stuff over again, just with better graphics/minor changes.
     
    For next release, I would definitely like it to be a new adventure.

    They've released Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire recently; I've bought former, and am enjoying each and every second of it. I've been waiting for them to create some remake of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald for quite some time, and seeing it finally become reality is a great feeling. They could begin another remake if they would like (for Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, perhaps?) but traditionally, they announce new games after each and every remake, and I'm sure many of us are used to that formula, including myself.

    Of course, they are always free to experiment by breaking their tradition and whatnot to see how things go, but for some of us, things would feel rather imbalanced; we would likely find ourselves requesting them to create something with new story. Remakes are great, but if released continuously without any break of sorts, they'd probably wind up losing a bit of their touch, so to speak.
     
    A remake. I just feel it would be too soon after X & Y for them to do a new adventure, assuming we're talking about next year that's just two years after Kalos. I think it would be a good idea for them to finish Generation VI off with another pair of remakes following ORAS, perhaps through Kanto. You'd expect them to do a third game/new generation with the last set of games being remakes (ORAS), but there's no real structured pattern so we shall soon see..
     
    New games, for sure. I love remakes for the nostalgia factor and it feels like an old adventure is being refreshed. But at the same time, I get more excited for brand new games. As much as I absolutely <3 Omega Ruby, as I'm playing it, I already know 95% of what's going to happen. I want to see a brand new adventure next. Perhaps a sequel of one of the older games, or something completely unexpected.

    The least different from the base set in terms of gameplay is Emerald, because the Hoenn Dex hasn't been changed. When they did Platinum they realized they ****ed up the Pokémon distribution in DP so Platinum had an expanded Dex, though with some sorely missed stuff like Honchkrow (which is my 4th gen go-to flyer) and Mismagius.

    Emerald and B2W2 undersold because they came very late in their system's lifespans. The DS was released in 2004, before Emerald in the US. The 3DS came before B2W2, too. And generally speaking, 5th gen was a really late generation because they were really made for the DSi, which was short-lived.
     
    I don't know. The remakes are starting to lose appeal with me, mainly as I started at the tail end of gen 3 and haven't been less exited for a Pokémon game than ORAS.


    I'd prefer to see another gen 6 game in a different region with a post-game in Kalos.
     
    What I want them to do next is make another Kalos game, since X/Y, like every first pair of games in a new generation, got the short stick and so was lacking in post-game content and extra features and had a really meh story. I want them to fix those things before thinking about a new region or another remake (we just got ORAS anyway). I think they owe Kalos that much at least.

    But more importantly, what I want them to do after that....is to slow the **** down with releases. Ever since '09 they've been pumping out a game a year:

    I know that doing yearly releases is what all the cool kids do these days, but I really want them to stop doing that. Let us play the newest game for more than a year before the next one comes out. I can wait. Really, I can.

    Because if they don't ship out a new game every year, it gives them more time to really work on a game, polish it, perfect it. At this point, I'm waiting for basically two things: Black&White/Gen V remakes, and the best Pokemon main series game ever. Game Freak, I love this series you've made, I really do. But because of that, I want you guys to make the perfect Pokemon game. Blow me away and make me be like "holy ****ing ****, that may be one of the best things I've ever played and ever will play". But you just can't do that if you keep doing these annual releases.

    I enjoy remakes, but one thing I would like to see more of is what B2W2 did - new story in previous regions. (Granted, B2W2's story was worse than BW's imo, but it was still nice to see something new). If we say get another Hoenn game with a Battle Frontier, I'd like to see something substantially different to RSE and ORAS.

    Wouldn't mind a bit more of a break between the main games either like Zekrom said, haha. Give us a solid spinoff inbetween like a COlo/XD-style game on the Wii U and I'll be happy.

    Thats about it...yep pretty much....
    But of coarse I'll stick to the question 100% new game only because its that time when we need new pokemon again haha plus we just had a remake so remake afterwards maybe :)
     
    With the creation of X and Y, I think they honestly should stick to remakes. because honestly I cannot tolerate another failure like X&Y haha.
     
    Honestly I think they should keep moving the series forward, and new games are best for it. What did ORAS introduce? A couple new Megas, Move Tutors for 6th Pokémon (both of which could've been introduced in a new Kalos game just as easily), an absurdly overpowered Pokémon (Mega Rayquaza), and it broke the series' timeline. Also, I can't judge Zinnia because I haven't yet played the game, but a lot of people didn't like her either. That's not moving forward the series, IMO.
