seeing only in doubles and triples

you know, i've been thinking a bit... every single main series (yes, i've played colosseum, pokemon XD, etc) pokemon game has us battling in single battle. there's a few double battles, and certainly triples in the case of XY, but it's (as far as i'm aware) largely optional. i'm kinda curious what the general reaction would be here if things switched and every battle was a double/triple battle instead.

would it make a difference to how you enjoy the games or is it too insignificant of a change? o: heck, let's even throw in sky battles every now and again and inverse battles just to spice things up a bit! it'd certainly be an interesting way to progress through the game instead of standard single battles.

I wouldn't play the games if that were the case. TemTem is that way and it fucking sucks.

tbh i forgot temtem existed while making this thread, so for clarification: it wasn't the basis for this thread creation at all, moreso was thinking about spinoff games like colosseum, XD etc that had mandatory doubles and they were pretty fun

I kinda wish they have more variety of battle than just tag/single. XY gives bit flavorable with inverse, BW2/BW with it's rotation and triple battle. I just wish they would have more than just single battle it's more flavor than just beating heck out without strategy

Those Sky battles are also fun; limiting on pokemon selection like actual flying or levitation

yeah! single battles are cool and all, but it's been the "standard" battle type for pokemon games and it'd be nice if we were to get used to battling in a different way. i'd love to incorporate more strategy and thinking into my battles assuming they weren't just singles~

I know right XD. The large % of battles so far in main games are always single or tag it's boring and those mid/small % of battles are like inverse/sky/triple and rotation battle seeing rotation battle it makes AI use 1000% of it's brain to switch out to soak the damage too.

I just wish DP remakes have more than just what they have for their Gen4 counterparts

I would love more Double or Rotation battles. These can be really fun and/or challenging.
Wouldn't mind the occasional Sky battle either, but not a huge fan of these.
Never liked Inverse battles. Too gimmicky for me.

Every single battle though? I'd rather not, that would just turn into a drag I think.

More double battles: Yes, I'd like that.
Triple/rotation: Nah, too messy for my taste.
Inverse: No. I consider those a really dumb gimmick, if it's just an optional thing that can be entirely avoided I wouldn't mind, but if it's mandatory nope, definitely nope.
Sky: It forces you to have one or more Flying type (or levitator) which you might not allways have, so too restrictive. It's like if you were forced to use Water Pokémon only when you're battling in the water.

So yes for double battles, because that would enrich the gameplay, and promote certain Pokémon and strategies that can only really shine in doubles. However making every battle a double battle would just drag the gameplay too much. Alternating singles and doubles would be the best.

From what I remember, if you do not have a flying mon on your team, the trainer battle prompt does not trigger back in X/Y. I think it also asked if you wanted to battle first if you do have flying mons, so you could decline.

This could hilariously make all battles skippable if you refuse to use any flying mons and all battles were sky battles rofl

I think Inverse battle is fun gimmick it may be bit challenging too it's like making fairy-type be weak to dragons-type than to immune and makes bit overall fun too

Well, my Y team didn't happen to have any Flying type so I didn't do any of those battles (no idea if I missed any reward or something), but even if you do, there's no guarantee that having one will be allways enough. I mean, good luck if your Flying type is Pelipper and you're fighting an Emolga.

Besides, I believe Sky battles are responsible for some really ugly flying animations, like Swellow and Xatu that would have looked way better if they were on the ground :)

Doubles aren't usually my preference, but I'd still be curious about it. :3c I love the Pokémon designs and the series too much to not continue if they decide to go for an all-double/triple/etc battle style.

I think the reason I tend not to like double battles as much is because it means I have to think/predict even more than the usual 1v1 (thinking competitively), and my brain can't keep up with predicting and choosing moves based on 4 Pokémon on the field haha. It's a lot. But in the actual story there's little need to think much, especially for veteran players, since the games aren't too difficult. Would probably have fun with it.

triples tho, as long as I don't get fps drops aha

it would give me a chance to have to think differently and try new strategies or even use moves/pokemon i wouldn't normally use so i'd still play it. i'm actually a huge double/triple battle fan aha. you know how you can run between trainers and trigger doubles in some games? i get upset when i mess up and end up in a single battle, i just rly like double battles. they're probably my favorite style of battling tbh.

side note, it's a shame we haven't had a gym leader since tate & liza that uses a double battle format, or even triple. that would be super fun.

Double battles can be really exhausting for casual fans, since there is so much more to keep track of. I like them and would love to see more of them, but I don't think any main Pokemon game should be mostly double battles. Closer to a 75:25 ratio of singles to doubles would be great though.

Triple battles are really stressful for nuzlocking, but aren't very interesting for normal playthroughs. I wouldn't mind a few of them, but they're not something I want to see much of.

Now I really want a Pokemon game that largely focuses on double battles again I wish Colosseum and XD weren't the only ones.

and lol triple battles are never coming back... I wish they would, but I wouldn't like it if there was a game that largely focused on Triple Battles. Doubles? fine. Triple battles? No. I like triple battles, but I don't think it's something that I'd want unless it's like a remake of Pokemon XD or something.

Also I still never understood why the Striaton Trio weren't a triple battle gym.
