How many of us are into shooters? Is there any series in particular that we find ourselves following? How good would we say we are at games like this?

Personally, I enjoy a lot of them. I'm a fan of Call of Duty, and although I don't play competitively per se, going online on CoD and having chance to go up against other people in matches is a lot of fun, I'd say. As for how good I am at this, things seemed to have been slightly difficult for me when I had fist kicked off, causing me to constantly camp. However, I had eventually started to get better after a few weeks, and now, I feel I'm pretty decent.

Alongside that, another shooter video game I'm fond of is Battlefield, even though I haven't been much of a huge follower of it as of late. What I dislike--it likely has to be Halo. There isn't much wrong with the series, but one thing that doesn't seem to click on me is its futuristic aspects. If it weren't for that, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

You're a fan of the most popular ones, Peitharchia!

I like them but I'm not very good at them. I don't play online.

The kind of people who are good at something like Quake are fucking GOOD. The oldies rewarded skill much more, because they were faster-paced.

Sure, I'm into shooters, but not to the extend of some. I'd say I'd be more into them too if it weren't for the usual players they pull; you know the squeaky you tube aspiring twelvies who think it's funny to abuse people over the microphone. Or maybe that's only me XD

Before I sold my XBox, I was a fan of the CoD series. I only played when my family played though, so I never got really good at it. I have Black Ops 2 on my computer, but I just can't get used to the controls so it goes unplayed.

When I was younger, I would play DOOM and Duke Nukem, but being 10 or 11 or 12 - I can't quite remember - I would put the no monsters cheat code in for both, I was legitimately scared of even the easiest ones.

I've stated before my opinion of shooters in that they used to be good, but most nowadays are shit. That said, here's some recommendations I made in my blog:

The following First-Person Shooters, because of course not all FPSs suck:
    - DOOM (the first two are awesomeness incarnate and have a huge modding community. Doom 3 is also a pretty good survival horror game)
    - Quake
    - Half-Life 2
    - Team Fortress 2
    - Left 4 Dead
    - Star Wars: Dark Forces (fuckwin Star Wars-themed DOOM clone)
    - Bioshock (first one only, the other ones suck)
    - Perfect Dark

I used to play a few like Unreal Tournament and Doom.
    Modern shooters are crap imo.

Okay, so I don't agree that they're all shitty. There are some that I just enjoy for their co-op. I loved Gears of War and RE5 when I had a functioning 360, but I'd be lying if I said that being able to play those with my father wasn't one of the biggest selling points for me. He was really good at 'em and everything, it was great.

But no, most modern shooters are pretty.. empty. I enjoyed Insurgency when I actually played it because it at least rewarded some kind of skill. More-so than most FPSs these days, anyway.

For more modern ones, I enjoyed the Bioshock trilogy - primarily 1 and 3, but I didn't think 2 was nearly as awful as most people say, lol. I loved Spec Ops: The Line.

....And I'll have to add more later -- my dad says that "streaming and posting interfere with his game time." :P

    Depends on the Genre:

First-Person: Doom or Duke Nukem 3D
Third-Person (though more of a action game): The Uncharted games
Rail: Nerf N-Strike games (yeah, I said that :p) and the Resident Evil Chronicles games on the Wii

People often say a game is terrible if they can find a single fault in it that just slightly hinders it.

Anyway, First Person Shooters are one of my favorite genres. I can't say that I "Follow" any series though. ...Now that I think of it I'm actually not following any video game series at all... Regardless, some of my favorite games are DOOM and DOOM 2, Half Life, Bioshock, Hexen/Heretic... And probably some others that I can't think of at the moment.

I liked the earlier COD games, but then the series went to hell in a hand basket. Same with most other mainstream FPS games today. But I guess some good ones are still out there.

One shooter series that I have grown attached to is the Killzone series. I enjoyed the steep learning curve that the multiplayer had, how the aiming had a weighted feel to it. Along with beautiful graphics, the maps were very well-designed as well; they covered huge areas and encouraged the player to plan every move they make before putting it into action (especially in the Warzone game mode, where teamwork is very cruical)

I don't mind shooters, but I certainly don't go out looking for them. Not my favorite genre, especially since I'm usually not all that good at them. :P

Then again, only shooter I've played lately is Borderlands 2 (and even then that was only after people said how good it was and after I saw it on sale). Half the time I can't aim straight for the life of me. I can't imagine playing against other players, I'd probably be one of the ones who ragequit ah ha.

I used to love playing Unreal Tournament, and I love TF2 still. I play it all the time. I'm not huge into stuff like CoD, BF or even CS:GO. Love that arena-style cartoon shooter.

I played a lot of TF2 and Counter-Strike (mostly 1.6, but I have dabbled in the other versions as well) in the past and they are pretty much the only FPS games I thoroughly enjoyed.

I am looking forward to Blizzard's Overwatch, though! It looks promising and has this sort of TF2 feel with some MMORPG elements here and there. Hopefully it will not disappoint!

Im a huge fan of FPS games my favorite being COD and i do play competitively for it also Halo MCC. Just started getting into CS GO. I did play battlefield only up to bf3 because i didn't like 4.

I do like shooters, But only really when they are realistic with one hit kills (to you and your enemies), Also I prefer ones were the idea is to take out the enemy before they see you rather than having hordes of soldiers randomly running around taking potshots at each other.
I really hate games like call of duty or Halo where it it takes 2 shoots to kill an enemy with a sniper rifle and more shots with any other weapon, yet you can run up to an enemy and punch them and its a one hit kill, sorry but how does that work?
Also I never get the hate for campers, I mean that what a sniper would do in real life its kind of military common scene to take out as many enemies as you can without being seen.

Gotta say I am a fan. I like TPS and the FPS.

    Battlefield
    Killzone
    Wolfenstein
    Unreal Tournament
    DOOM
    Dead Space
and even a few on the rails shooters at the arcade!
Just calling it a shooter really widens the scope to what you can put down here. What about the bullet screen games like Raiden? That's a 'shooter'. . . ah well, if they shoot, I play them. Except call of duty. I can't handle the 'arcady' feel to that one.

I used to be a pretty avid Call of Duty and Battlefield fan, but I've kinda fallen out of the whole FPS craze that ran gaming for quite a few years. I'll still play a Battlefield if it's good though (my favorites are Bad Company 2 and BF3, and 4 was a big disappointment for me, Hardline also looks like nothing I'd be too interested in). And I am kind of intrigued with Rainbow Six Siege.

Nowadays I'm more into 3rd person shooters. With good cover systems, mind you. Only shooter I've been playing online recently is The Last of Us, and I really cannot wait for Metal Gear Solid 5, Uncharted 4, Star Wars Battlefront, Quantum Break, and The Division coming later this year!

Tribes is the only shooter series I have a true appreciation for, and remains the only series of any genre that I could have an interest in playing competitively.

Does World of Tanks count as a shooter? It's hardly a tank sim with its 'arcade' gameplay, but I can hardly stop playing it, so if it is a shooter, then yeah. I never before thought a shooter in which having a 20 second reload is normal would really work, but the KV-2 is insanely fun.

Also I never get the hate for campers, I mean that what a sniper would do in real life its kind of military common scene to take out as many enemies as you can without being seen.
I don't get it either. Complaints about campers are likely just nonsense — people do it in WoT and that game has spotting mechanics that reward stealthy gameplay! Patience is a major component of gameplay at higher tiers, so of course the noob in the T34 (by which I mean the American tank, not the Soviet one; the more you know!) will complain when he dies in the first five minutes after blundering out in front of invisible enemies.
