Speedrunning games

Never attempted a speedrun. Expresses conflicting feelings on wanting to try it.

Watched speedruns of Pokemon games before. Usually hinges on one or two Pokemon for runs with no glitches. Manipulates that Pokemon's stats with timing-specific tricks. Essentially follows someone's script after that. Sees no pleasure in that. Would rather do a Solo of some random Pokemon. (Feels similarly towards a lot of RPG speedruns.)

Could be interesting to beat the game quickly, however. Separates this from "speedrunning" mentally. Imagines extra restrictions, such as 3+ random Pokemon, no manipulation, no glitches, and no X-items (for newer games). Aims to preserve what feels like fun.

I'll stick to watching werster do it lol. I've seen the copious amounts of preparation and dedication needed to do it, and I just cannot provide that lol.

I was gonna run through the game as fast as possible to get multiple Deoxys' in ORAS.
And each time I ended up doing a normal playthrough where I explore everything and fight everyone rofl
Speedrunning is just not for me.

I've never done proper speedrunning, but back when Emerald was my only game I would just obsessively fly through it over and over with different teams. Usually beat Wallace just either side of 16hrs.

I'm not interested in speedrunning. I'm not good enough at Pokemon to be able to speedrun successfully. :x I'd rather watch Small Ant speedrun than attempt it myself, lol.

It's an interesting play style and I certainly could have fun watching someone else doing them, but it's not the kind of gameplay I would enjoy doing myself.

Watched a Gen 1 speedrun once, and it was basically a Nidoking solo with X Speed/Accuracy exploits. Assumed anything goes in this kind of playthroughs since it's all about beating the game as quick as possible, which means using only a couple of powerful and easily available Pokémon, overlevelling as long as it doesn't slow you down and abusing items as much as possible, which is not the way I like to play. I prefer and have more fun playing with other kind of self imposed rules that have nothing to do with speed.
