Like that's gonna stop anybody. It's Mario, how bad could it get?
    ^^^^^^^

It sure as hell will not stop anybody. Have I ever said that I'm hyped for this game? If not, here we go. HYYYYYYYYYYPPPEEEEE

Ratings are overrated (pun not intended). Honestly these kids are gonna end up seeing whatever "inappropriate" content is in the game eventually, why wait until they're 10? E10+ games aren't even that bad, the rating's kinda pointless. And I'm glad that they're willing to accept the E10+ rating instead of censoring it to get the E rating.

Let's also remember that parents used to buy Conkers Bad Fur Day in the early 2000s for their kids cause it had a cute squirrel on the front :P It ain't the first nor last time a Mario game will be rated E10+. List includes:
    • Mario Rabbids
    • Mario & Sonic Rio Olympics
    • Mario & Luigi Dream Team
    • Mario Strikers Charged
It's Mario - people will still buy it for their kids (:

Curse you, Mario's nipples! I'm also wondering if it's also because of an extra mode after collecting all 600+ moons to play as Peach, since she has her own Cappy, just like how there's a Luigi mode for the Galaxy games, and like Mario, she is customizable too thus having a bikini outfit.

The difference is that those were spin-offs. This is the first mainline Mario title that gets an E10+ rating.

True, those are spinoffs, but a kid/parent isn't going to look at that and say "that's a spinoff game." They're most likely going to see Mario on the cover and say "that's a Mario game." Nintendo has already crossed the boundary in terms of the ESRB system - and rightfully so in my opinion - which is why this really shouldn't come as too much of a surprise at this point for Super Mario Odyssey (isn't there a city called Konkey Don't city, I mean come on haha.)

Hey, at least Odyssey didn't end up getting "T for Teen"! (Or worse, "M for Mature"!) :P

While the E10+ symbol will probably make some rating and morally-conscious parents think twice before buying this game for their kids, still, many people will buy this one simply "because it's a Mario game". Besides, what about all those youngin's playing Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and other "M for Mature" games/franchises that seem to be wildly popular (or at least heavily hyped or talked about) these days?

And if you think the ESRB's ratings process is a problem as applied to Super Mario Odyssey, look no further than the TV Parental Guidelines ratings system in the US, where program ratings are largely determined by the networks, syndication distributors, or streaming services running such programs-much of what's on prime-time broadcast network television these days has such tawdry content, yet many of those network programs are deemed appropriate for pre-teens with "parental guidance" at a minimum up to "parents strongly cautioned", based on these programs being rated "TV-PG" and "TV-14", along with the one-letter descriptors such as "D" (suggestive dialogue), "S" (sexual situations) "L" (coarse language), and "V" (violence), as well as "viewer discretion advised" announcements at the beginning of some programs.

I could not have said it better. This isn't the first time (spin-off or not) and it certainly isn't the last time a Mario game receives a rating higher than E.

Besides, let's be real. 10+ is arguably the most useless ESRB rating. It is there only to fill the gap between E and T which is, honestly, unnecessary.

It won't affect the sales. At all.

One would think that E10+ would have some merit to it (particularly since I wasn't able to play video games myself until I was 10, but that's only one case), like TV-Y7, but there's tons of games that blur the line between E and E10+, so I'll rest my case there.

Speaking on my own interpretation, the ESRB system is in place mainly as a liability blockade, protecting people's butts from disgruntled parents from say, a situation like Conker's Bad Fur Day where appearances are deceiving.

E to E10+ To T may seem mundane or overlapping in some aspects, but I think it has enough separating qualities to distinguish themselves as individual categories for consumers and protection.
