Since there's a biking thread, let's throw swimming into the mix.

Can you swim? When did you learn? Would you like to learn?

I can, but I have no stamina at all and therefore can't get very far. I prefer to just float.
I didn't know how for the longest time, but my friends actually taught me.

I'm not good at swimming and I swim very slow. I have attempted to try touching the bottom on the deep water and I can never get to the bottom. I started swimming at around the age of 6 and I got over my fear swimming on the deep water at age 12.

my mom enrolled me in a summer swimming class way back when (i was 4th or 5th grade maybe), and that's where i learned all the basics and a couple interesting strokes. rarely ever use the skill though bcs i barely ever go out to the beach/pool (i'm way too much of a homebody).

despite me not having all that much stamina also, i need to swim bcs i don't know how to float lol. i'm ok with traversing waters over 6ft so long as i have like a life vest on me or something, bcs i can't ever trust myself to relax. ever since i nearly drowned in a pool tryna do that, i've had a mild phobia of vast waters.

I used to be a biiig swimmer as a kid! Back when we lived in Russia (Sochi to be exact, where I was born) we always went to the beach to swim since it was so close by. But ever since moving to the US I've barely gone swimming even though my mom goes every summer (we have a beach nearby where we live in the US too) and don't really swim as much since. oops lol. I probably can still to an extent but..... not great at all :(

I swim almost every day during the summer. It's my favorite part about that season. Whenever I'm at a hotel the pool is also the first thing I look for.

Nope never learned! I almost drowned when I was four when I got stuck under a dock, one of my first memories, and ever since, whenever I am in water I just lock up and sink like a stone. I have had a lot of people try to teach me including my buddy who does triathalons but nothing as ever worked. If I ever have kids, however, I will need to learn as my girlfriend can't swim either. 😅

My mother had a similar experience and is afraid of the water now. There's no rush, just take it slow and get comfortable in the water first!

I never fully learned how to swim. There's a lot of doggy paddling and occasional proper swimming thrown in when I don't feel like I'm drowning. I know how to stay above water without just floating, but I'm by no means fast. At this point, I don't really care to get proper lessons. I'm content with the amount I can do and I know that I won't ever use swimming ability to show off to someone so it doesn't matter if I'm good or not.

I never really learned how to swim, and became too self-conscious to try to take lessons as I grew up cause I knew all the kids would be younger than me. I kinda have a fear of being on boats due to not knowing how to swim, but I love harbours and beaches. Whenever I get the chance, I want a friend to teach me to swim, saves me the embarrassment of having to take a class or something on it.
