Sorry, I missed Spewpa completely. I'm going to tell a bit about both...

Spewpa is my least favourite in the line Scatterbug-line because like you already said it a Metapod/Kakuna/Silcoon/Cascoon clone. However I have seen many Spewpa in my life and it has grown on me because I try to collect all the different coloured Vivillon & trade the ones I have (I breed around 30 Scatterbug yesterday). It's a cute pokemon overall.


Larvesta is cute. I haven't used it much yet, but it's evolution is lovely. ^-^
 
Uh, oops. I got so far behind I didn't realize THAT was my last post O_O.

Feel free to post about both since I normally would just bump the previous PotW in such an event that happened before :P

Spewpa is ok but its not 100% well known mainly b/c most people remember the starting pokemon as in scatterbug then it evolves into Spewpa for 5 minutes then you have a wonderful Vivillon! But it is prettier and cute than scatterbug and i kinda like its powder moves as well hehe

He is quite the scary bug!
I love how it says its born from the sun and its part bug!
I kinda like its blue eyes too and its amount of level up to get to Volcarona haha which i love! But this line is quite powerful and full of fire! I personally like its moveset as it has a wide variety of moves available!
 
I figured I'd comment on both the last two POTWs because why not :3

First, Spewpa. I think it's definitely one of the more adorable Bug-types and I had a Scatterbug as an early team member in my playthrough of X. He ended up becoming a Vivillon who destroyed many early-game stuff and helped me catch a few things as well, pretty much putting it on the same usefulness scale as Butterfree in the early stages of Kanto. He sadly didn't have Compound Eyes when I caught him, but I finally did give the ability to him after endless BP grinding for an Ability Capsule. He's been such a good in-game battler (well, not competitive-wise) ever since.

Now for this week's star... I do admit Larvesta and Volcarona are very interesting, and 5th Gen in my opinion gave us lots of unique Bug-types in both design and type combinations. As for my usability of Volcarona, I never really got much chances given I often had a full team before I was able to get one, but with Quiver Dance and its powerful STAB moves it's a majestic force to be reckoned with.

Reason(s) for liking Bug-types: Bug has some of the coolest offensive moves in the game (Megahorn, HIDDEN Pin MISSILES) and some type combination with bug bring out some of the more unusual and at times difficult types to deal with. Bug/Rock for example. Two types that cancel out many of the common weaknesses within the said types. Bug cancels out the Ground and Fight Weaknesses of Rock, while Rock cancels out the Fire and Flying weaknesses of Bug. Also, you get STAB on some of the most powerful offensive moves as well with Megahorn. Stone Edge, etc. Also, bugs are cool since Gen 1. Nuff said.

Answer to current topic: Larvesta

Larvesta and its eventual evolution is quite weird. Larvesta has quite a large attack stat but it completely fades out when it evolves into Volcarona. I almost thought that a Physical Volcarona would have been possible thanks to Larvesta's attack stat but i guess not all dreams and troll builds are possible. Anyway, Larvesta's the pokemon that will help a lot of trainers appreciate their pokemon before they evolve because we all know HOW LONG IT TAKES for it to become its intended form. Not to mention, Larvesta has its cute + cool vibe. Its a badass adorable. It screams that it doesn't want to mess around with sunshine and candy when its prepared to battle. It screams WAR and BUTTERFLIES!
 
Larvesta is quite cool, it has a nifty cry but it's a shame that it doesn't get much use until Level 59. Although one could necessarily use it as an un-evolved Pokémon with the Eviolite...yeah, that wouldn't work. I have used Volcarona in the post-game of B2W2 before (caught a pretty nice IV'd one in White 2 once, and have a 5 IV'd one in X). It's really good.

Welcome! "WAR AND BUTTERFLIES" Haha I love it! That's pretty much what Larvesta and Volcarona are saying if you ask me. As far as evolving, at least you can catch a Volcarona at Level 35 in Black/White 2, so it's not too bad.

As far as the Spewpa talk, it's good to see most others think it's pretty cute because I think so. I'd like to give Vivillion at some point and then I could actually say I've owned a Spewpa :P

Reason(s) for liking Bug-types: Bug is such a diverse and cool type- there are terrifying creatures like Yanmega and adorable babies like Ledian- the variety of bugs in the real world are reflected perfectly in the bug type. I've always been so fascinated by them and I've always had one on my team just because I can't resist them! I'm always excited to see what new bug types come out with each generation.

Welcome! Good choice of partners. Also, I'm sure Larvesta would be VERY warm to hug :P I assure you that Volcarona is very good, it gets a pretty good moveset and has great Special Attack stat as well.

Oh wait. Apparently, Physical Larvesta is a thing for Little Cup. It can learn Flare Blitz and U-Turn. Yeah it can work. even for non LC formats. Ohohohoho
 
Speaking of Larvesta, has anyone ever mistaken Volcarona as a legendary? I remember when it was first revealed to fans that its unique typing and complex design was one that made it seem like a standalone legendary like Darkrai or Deoxys.

That being said though, how about a new topic to get things going?

If you could make any current bug type a legendary, which one would it be? How would you improve it so that it could be considered 'legendary' status?

I think Volcarona would of made a great legendary though it'd be fun to see Gamefreak create stronger versions of weak bug types like Caterpie or Weedle. For example, a huge Caterpie the size of a skyscraper or a hot-air balloon sized Butterfree that shoots lasers out of its eyes. Wicked right?

Has anyone noticed the lack of bug type legendaries though? I believe there isn't one other than Bug Arceus which I guess makes sense due to the overabundance of bugs in the pokeverse. I think while there's certainly chance for bugs that are out of this world, most of them aren't strong enough to be considered legendary status. However I still think they should create one either by converting Volcarona into a legendary or creating something completely from scratch. What do you guys think?

Ledian!

Black/White Pokédex: It uses starlight as energy. When more stars appear at night, the patterns on its back grow larger.

A Pokémon powered by the stars? That's pretty cool.

I kind of like Ledian's design and I'd like to be a fan of it more, but it is pretty weak honestly and it's not very usable in battle, so I've never gotten the chance to do much with it for that reason.
 
Ledian, I like it's design however I have to say I haven't used it in any play-troughs for a long time, something is keeping me back. It's a lovely Pokemon and I find a lot of gen-2 pokemon are under-appreciated, but Ledian is just not that good. Maybe if it evolved a little earlier (Butterfree/Beedrill level 10, Beautifly/Dustox level 10, Vivillon Level 12, Ledian Level 18! ) It has about same base stats as Butterfree (even a little bit lower) and lower stats as Vivillon.
 
Ledian's problem is that it only has a base Attack of 30 and base Special Attack of 55, so it really can't hit anything. It's actually got one of the highest Special Defense stats oddly enough, so or can stand up to certain attacks, but that's about it.
 
I remember when Marriland was forced to use a Ledian in his Y WonderWedlocke, and he trained it up only for it and its partner Banette to die in its first real fight. Sadly I don't know if i'll ever use one, but someone spoke in the comments of one of his videos about how they had a Ledian in Soul Silver that was amazing for them.

I think they deserve love, and I enjoy liking a type that many people don't. (Of course, I'm talking about outside of PC. If no one here liked bug typesp, there wouldn't be a fan club!) Plus, I believe that they're strong in their own right if trained well.
Answer to current topic: Ledian! a! Hmm.. i have yet to use one. I mostly play Omega Ruby, where gou can't encounter those in the wild. I have bred a Ledyba though that I hope will evolve soon!

Welcome! You're definitely right, Bug-types are underrated and they can actually be very good Pokémon if raised right.

As for Pendra's comment, it's definitely interesting that Marriland's died very quickly. It isn't a great Pokémon, so it's not too surprising, but it would be nice if it could at least hold it's own better in battle.

Reason(s) for liking Bug-types: Ever since Gen 1, they've been regarded as one of the weakest, if not theweakest type. However, I've always thought that they had cool designs, and while they didn't have much going for them in Gen 1 due to there only being 3 very weak Bug-type damaging moves plus Strong Shot, each subsequent generation has given them something to improve their standing, be it new, more powerful Bug-types, or better moves, that has made me like them even more. The once shunned Bug-Type was redeemed with Pokemon like Volcarona and Galvantula. If only Stealth Rocks wasn't a thing...
Answer to current topic: Oh, Ledian... Why has GameFreak forsaken thee? Blessed with a cool design, a ladybug that literally is supposed to pack a punch, but cursed with not even sub-par offensive stats...

When you get right down to it, the problem with Ledian is that it doesn't do what it's supposed to. Or more like it can't. It's supposed to be this super awesome ladybug that beats up it's enemies with it's four fists of fury. But with a base attack of 35, it'll feel more like it accidentally bumped into you on the sidewalk. The fact that it's special attack is higher than it's attack, even if only by 20 points, doesn't even make sense, because it's supposed to be punching. I don't know about you, GameFreak, but to me punching seems like it would be a phsyical action. You even gave it Iron Fist as it's hidden ability! It's like you're saying, yeah, we know this thing is supposed to punch you out, we just don't care. If it only it had a Base Stat Total of 450, and they dumped the other 60 points into Attack, or even 50 into Attack and the other 10 into Speed, it would be considerable. Yeah, that's still not that great, but as it is now there are several unevolved Pokemon with more offensive power than Ledian. Sadly, Ledian is basically only usable in-game, but I can't imagine how it must be trying to use one against the Elite Four. Ledian had one job. One job which it actually does quite well. Troll us by looking like an awesome offensive Pokemon that turns out can't throw a punch to save it's life.

Welcome! I agree, Bug-types definitely have improved gradually over time and Volcarona and Galvantula are two of the best around if you ask me. Ledian definitely was forsaken by Game Freak. "It'll feel more like if accidentally bumped into you on the sidewalk" probably sums it up pretty accurately. It gets great moves for punching as well, but it just doesn't have the power to do it and it really is sad.
