I fight every trainer I find and will grind on wild mons if necessary. Don't think I've ever been under leveled... for long anyway 😂
I'd never try a challenge run or the like though, not my style.

sorry to hear 🙁

Spoiler:

it's semi-okay though... they still have each other's company in oblivion 😊
nice photo, guess theyre alright then 😁
dont think ive got through a game without grinding at some point. i remember one playthough on sapphire was pretty bad when i could only manage a team of three because i used a swalot which takes a lotttt of exp

239304 ^ I hope you had a nice holiday

It's easy to get underleveled in rom hacks. Even in the good rom hacks, there's always a random jump in difficulty somewhere.

Some hacks don't even try to hide it yeah... the problem is that it makes it way too easy to just Destiny Bond spam instead of coming up with an actually interesting strategy

I remember a rom hack that apparently you weren't meant to actually finish, because he put a level 100 at the end with completely made up moves. I cheesed it with destiny bond and the post dialogue called me a cheater.

Seems like a great ROM hack.

At least it's not Snakewood. That game throws a Dark/Ghost abomination with Wonder Guard as the champions ace at you (there's no Fairy Type, btw.). I just happened to have Toxic on one of my Pokemon so I ended up stalling it out. xD

I played snakewood until around gym 7 and my save file got deleted. It was not fun.

Still, nothing will ever top how horrible dark rising is.

- A very bad rendition of kanto, it's so bad you can still tell which towns and routes they halfway remapped over.

- So much grinding your against level 90's by the 6th gym, with johto level style of wild pokemon to make grinding even worse.

- Buggier than Gen 1 Pokemon

- The storyline doesn't make any sense, you can hardly figure out the dialogue is saying sometimes.

- Ambush rivals placed in deliberate obnoxious places all the time. Sometimes the only way to win is building a stall team and PP stalling them out of moves.

239162* cant remember many of the romhacks i tried out. i remember those ruby destiny ones though

One of the main problems with fangames, is that they're made by fans, who can be poor game designers, poor devs, despite the motivation ^^"
Sometimes good ideas, sometimes terrible ideas. And it's hard to balance a game.
That Dark/Ghost + Wonder Guard abomination, for example, is poor game design XD

It makes me wonder. Did you guys join PokéCommunity for the fangames?

Someone kept fawning over Snakewood so in order to try it out I joined the forums. But I ended up sticking here due to PokeTrivia which back in the day didn't even up your post counter when posting.

I haven't actually played too many ROM hacks or Fan games. But the ones I did play were kinda meh, including those that are consered pretty alright like Glaced. But I'm also pretty picky due to having been part of a hobby game dev community for a couple years. I've picked up a couple things about game development back then, mostly due to playing a ton of RPG Maker games of varying quality. I even ended up as staff on there, organizing a database of all the games people the community created. I might have also spend a couple weekends doing nothing but playing those games for that reason alone. xD

I did not like glazed and dropped it. I feel like the crit ratio was raised or something because it was happening way too often. Level curve wasn't good, I didn't think the pikachu was all that funny and it was sort of out of place for a pokemon game. I might go back someday but I just wasn't having fun.

I would recommend the rom hack "gaia". It's basically a replica of what a mainline game looks like. The good and bad. The story is generic evil team stuff, but the region is on par with what gamefreak creates.

239167 gaia seems interesting 🙂 i think my favourite romhacks are just the ones that make the game more challenging like gold hardtype and emerald kaizo

I downloaded a couple rom hacks from here at some point, but haven't even had the time to check them out.
Not really that high up on my current priorities tbh. more or less just grabbed em thinking I'd check em out at some point xD
