What's your favourite generation Ash? 😊
And can you share some chocolate please?
No you won't just watch :P

I love Gen2 the most tbh. The improvements were incredible, while still feeling very much like the original games. Crystal finally allowed you to play as a girl too!

I find playing the first couple of gens really relaxing. A lot of the changes that came later didn't always work and the games have become far more complicated with time too. I mean, they're still awesome, but they don't feel like I'm just wandering around the countryside, exploring with my pokepals anymore.

I've been mostly watching this thread too lately tbh xD

And eating chocolate? That part is vital to the cause!

I don't like how the later generations slowed down. And I'm not talking about gen 4 slowdown, but rather the pace of the gameplay. It's probably because of how the games got a lot more linear. I just like having the option to skip a Gym Leader, go to a new place, catch a Pokemon you "shouldn't" have at this point and then return later on after maybe beating a couple other Gym Leaders first. It's basically a new experience every time. Older games also made it easier for you to use weaker Pokemon. Like, I had an Onix on one of my teams in Blue and that thing actually carried itself quite well in fights.

My personal feeling is that this freedom was not wanted by Game Freak in the first place ^^"
The issue with non-linear games, is that you can often be lost. See Dark Souls 1 or 2; they're not linear, but most players who don't take the right path will be lost (including when they do take the right path but end up locked because they don't see where to go next (example: in Blighttown, players can miss Quelaag, who is one of the main bosses of the game...)).
Now Game Freak targets young players so it makes sense to make Pokémon more linear.
I'm not saying they are right, nor wrong, I'm just guessing it's their reasonning and conclusion.

I missed gen 2 at the time when it was on GBC (had no GBC). Did grab a copy of Crystal VC though for 3ds, though that was mainly so I could catch Celebi =p
As such my intro to Johto was in HGSS and it was okay. Nothing particularly stands out to me tbh. I had no interest in apriballs at the time.

I'd have to ration my chocolate for that lol
sometimes I am, sometimes I'm not eating chocolate 😏
I could try drinking chocolate milk though, when I'm not eating chocolate 🤔

I played the older gens through emulators, then got them on virtual console.

Sad gen 3 hasn't seen some sort of re-release. It's not easy getting these games legitimately without paying like $200.

I did find a cheap copy of pokemon silver on amazon when I was 13, but lost it when we moved. I wish I had kept better track of it, but some things usually inevitably get lost during moves.

I still have my gens 1-3 games. Though only Blue and Sapphire were still playable with saving capabilities last time I checked...

You can actually play Gold and Silver on an old GB. Crystal was the only one that required a GBC.

I had Red, Ruby, Emerald, and Pearl, and I don't knowwhere these games are XD
My father probably threw them away when he moved house and I couldn't save them because I was 600 km away...

239218* only have a few of my old games but i started collecting a lot of them a while ago, the prices have gone up a lot over the past 10 years and still going up. i was thinking of selling my collection but may as well hold on to them a bit more. pokemon cards too keep going up. Lol thats cool youre blue still saves. I think my yellow called it quits a few years ago.
i gotta say gen 2 is my fav as well, probably because it was my first one

Did not know that =o
The boxes lied to me =o

Well anyway, it's too late for that =p

Overall, it feels like Gen 2 was the only generation for which Game Freak actually improved, you felt they worked hard and they had more in the tank. And then the whole gaming industry realised that with less effort you could sell the same, so...

239221 haha i only found out recently you could play gold/silver on the original GB too.
so much stuff gets rushed idk how they can handle this many games. leaving another studio to work on the gen 4 remakes is a good step forward theyll have more time to work on legends. im looking forward to it but ive seen mixed reactions from the fanbase
also cant believe it is 29 degrees here today 😲and my gf is on holiday in spain yet it's hotter here lol

I actually saw someone playing Gold on a regular GB back when the games came out. And I still remember that to this day. Actually, you just need to look at the cartridge itself: if it has that cut-in corner at the top, it can be inserted into a regular Gameboy. The original Gameboy had this kinda safety mechanism that prevented the cartridge from being pulled out of the slot while the game was running.

Woa :0

I played my GBC games on a GBA a friend gave me when the NDS was released. Because it took time for my father to allow me to play videogames XD
He was right though. Look at me wasting my time on Dark Souls, LoL and making a Pokémon fangame.

Yes indeed! But mangas/animes are as dangerous as videogames; you joined the Yu-Gi-Oh cult!

239229* join the magcargo cult 🙂

oh yeah i had some gbc cartridge games that are transparent like mario golf. dont think they worked on original gb

edit: i just noticed, if this thread started at 236451 and this is post #2779 shouldnt we be at 239229?
